Anti-microbiological property:

The specimens (disc type; 10 x 2 mm) were placed on the bottom of a

24-well tissue culture plate containing liquid medium, and Candida
albicans (CAD1) were cultured for 2 or 4 days in this plate.
The optical densities (OD) of the bacterial culture were determined.
The surface morphology of the mixtures was observed by scanning
electron microscopy (SEM).
Mechanical property:
The dimensions of the cylindrical specimens created for mechanical tests
were 10 mm 6 mm (diameter height).
Flow measurement: ISO 10139-1
Compliance as measured by depth of penetration: ISO 10139-1
All results were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and a multiple comparison test.
The SEM observation showed that the number of
C.albicans on the mixtures had drastically decreased.

INTRODUCTION
Tissue conditioners are materials used to promote healing of the damaged tissue that
supports denture structures. However, many microorganisms such as Candida albicans are
known to thrive on the surface of degraded tissue conditioners, and these often induce
oral stomatitis and systemic diseases, such as aspiration pneumonia in compromised
elderly people. Some researchers have attempted to synthesize antibacterial dental
materials by using metals such as copper or silver, but these metals were sometimes found
to induce metal allergy.
OBJECTIVES
In this study, a new antibacterial tissue conditioner by using
Juncus was synthesized, and subsequently a microbiological
and mechanical property were evaluated.
CONCLUSIONS
The tissue conditioners contain the Juncus powder has anti-microbiological properties, and
are expect to prevent denture stomatitis and aspiration pneumonia in elderly people.

the covering of tatami mats. Recently, this
powder begins to be applied as food additives.
