HOW TO PREPARE
Before any assessment event ensure
that you are clear on what to expect
from the day. Read your invitation
email carefully so that you know where
you need to be and what time you
are expected to arrive. Prepare all the
administration that you are required
to bring with you on the day, including
copies as necessary.
It is important that you consider the
activities that you will be required to
complete during your assessment event
and think through how to best prepare.
For the non-technical elements seek
feedback from those that you interact
with about how effective you are within
a team setting. Try to anticipate what
it is you bring to a group environment
and what areas you could look to
develop.
Prepare for your maths test by
practicing and improving your speed
and accuracy of mental calculations.
This can easily be achieved by using a
revision guide and using a stop watch
to apply time pressure.
Whilst the aptitude test looks to grade
your natural aptitude, many of the tests
will require use of a joystick. Some
applicants find it useful to practice
using a joystick before they come to
their assessment event and maybe use
a flight simulator game. Others have
been known to undertake trial flights
to help them understand the demands
on your capacity when flying.
Finally, people find is useful to prepare
for their interview by considering
different experiences or situations
they have been in, which demonstrates
their skills across the areas outlined in
the interview section of this booklet.
Please do not fall in to the trap of
preparing model responses as this
can often backfire because applicants
may not answer the questions being
asked. Make sure that you listen to the
questions and respond with recent and
relevant examples.
It is fair to say that CTCs selection
process will challenge you but our
experienced assessment team will
make you feel at ease and create an
environment that allows you to relax
and be yourself. It is important that we
get to see the real you on these events
and our team are here to support you
through the process and facilitate the
day.

THE PURPOSE
The CTC assessment process for aspiring pilots is designed
to give you, the applicant, an opportunity to showcase the
breadth of technical and non-technical skills you possess.
Through a series of tried and tested exercises, CTCs
selection process will provide the selection team with a
clear, all-round picture of your abilities and potential to
become an airline pilot.

THE STANDARD
CTCs selection process is non-competitive in most cases.
This means that you will be assessed against a required
CTC Aviation or airline standard and not directly against
others who are participating in the assessment event. CTC
sets a high standard in order to ensure we provide the
best possible cadets to our partner and client airlines. If
you are well prepared for the assessment day and clear
on what to expect, we advise that you simply relax, be
yourself and do your best.

SELECTION PROCESS
There are a series of phases to the CTC assessment
process as outlined below.
Application
Applications are made on-line through our website
www.ctcwings.com or sometimes directly
through an airlines website if you are applying for
a specific airline cadet programme. The selection
team will review and screen your application
against agreed criteria for the programme you are
applying for. The criteria will be freely available on
the CTC Wings website.
Please ensure you meet the programmes
minimum entry criteria before starting your
application. Take your time completing your
application and remember it is important all
information is correctly inputted and please
ensure all your academic achievements are listed
correctly, as they appear on your certificates. You
will be required to present these certificates on
your assessment day.
Please bear in mind that some of our airline
programmes have a closing date so ensure you
leave sufficient time to complete your application.
Once your application has been screened by the
selection team you will receive an email informing
you of the result.
Assessment Day
CTC conduct assessment events in the UK (Crew
Training Centre Dibden) as well as internationally,
as required by client airlines. The assessment
event is split in to a morning assessment centre
and afternoon interview. You are normally
required to meet the standard across all areas of
the morning assessment in order to be progressed
to the afternoon interview.
On the morning of your assessment, you will
receive a presentation on the appropriate CTC/
airline cadet training programme. This is a good
opportunity to ask any questions that you may still
have before starting the assessment.
Technical Assessment
You will be required to complete a numeracy
test on your assessment day. This is a mental
arithmetic test, under timed conditions. The test
is normally completed on a computer without the
use of calculators or other such aids. You will have
15 minutes to answer 15 questions. A pen and
paper will be provided for any rough calculations.
You will be expected to undergo a pilot aptitude
test known as PILAPT. This aptitude testing
system has been specifically designed to assess
the core skills required for a commercial airline
pilot. There are a series of 6 modules, which should
take you approximately 1 hour to complete.
The areas being assessed during PILAPT are:
Hand/eye coordination
Psychomotor tracking
Mechanical reasoning
Spatial orientation/awareness
Numeracy Skills
Capacity
Non-Technical Assessment
You will be invited to complete 2 group activities
that will allow you the opportunity to demonstrate
your interpersonal skills and qualities such as:
Communication
Team Working
Leadership
Situation Awareness
Both exercises are designed to encourage
discussion and debate from all team members so
remember to get involved as we cant assess what
we dont see.
Once all elements of the morning assessment
centre are completed you will be able to take a
lunch break. The assessor team will agree a time
to meet you for the morning results delivery. The
group will be split into smaller groups as necessary
and the results will be delivered face to face. If
you have successfully met the standard across all
areas of the morning assessment, you will then
be invited to an interview in the afternoon. If you
do not meet the standard in the morning, this will
be the end of your assessment day and you will
be advised by email the following day if you are
eligible to reapply. Candidates who are eligible
to reapply will be offered feedback prior to any
reassessment. This communication could come
for CTC or directly from the client airline.
Interview
The interview is conducted on a one-to-one
basis and will take approximately 40 minutes to
complete. During the interview we are looking to
get to know you better and to understand some
of your past experiences. This is a competency or
evidence based interview and you will be required
to provide, recent and relevant responses. The key
areas of assessment are:
