The document discusses several hadiths that mention black banners coming from the east. The hadiths predict that black banners will emerge led by figures like Shu'ayb ibn Salih and the Mahdi. They will defeat enemies of the Muslims and bring justice, with the Mahdi establishing rule. The document does not specify who exactly the black banners refer to.

Jalal ad-Din as-Suyuti has rated them as most authentic.
People who are
dealing with them make a big mistake. They link them to the black banners who will come in the future from the east.
1. And Ibn Abi Shaybah, Nu'aym ibn Hammad in al-Fitan, Ibn Majah and Abu Nu'aym narrated from Ibn Mas'ud [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said: "Once we were with the Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], when a group of youths from Banu Hashim approached. When the Prophet [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] saw them, his eyes filled with tears and his colour changed. He [i.e. Ibn Mas'ud] said: "I said: "We see in your face something that worries us." So he said: "We, the Ahl al-Bayt, are a people for whom Allah has chosen the hereafter over this world. And my household after me will face trials, banishment and pursuit, until a people from the east come with black banners, and they will ask for what is due, but not be given it. So they will fight and be victorious, and be given what they asked for. But they will not accept it from them until they hand it over to a man from my household, who will fill it [i.e. the earth] with equity, as they had filled it with tyranny. So whoever among you reaches that time, then let him go to them, even if he must crawl over ice, for he is the Mahdi."
2. And Ibn Majah, al-Hakim and Abu Nu'aym narrated from Thawban [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said: "The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam]: "Three will fight where your treasure is, each one the son of a khalifah. But it will not go to a single one of them. Then, the black banners will come out of the east and kill you as no people have ever been killed. Then, the khilafah of Allah, the Mahdi, will come, so when you hear of him then go to him and give the bay'ah to him, even if you must crawl over ice. For he is Allah's khalifah, the Mahdi."
3.And Ahmad, Nu'aym ibn Hammad, al-Hakim and Abu Nu'aym narrated from Thawban [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said: "The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] said: "When you see the black banners have come forward from Khurasan, then go to them even if you have to crawl over ice, for among them is Allah's khalifah, the Mahdi."
4. And al-Hasan ibn Sufyan and Abu Nu'aym narrated from Thawban [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said: "The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] said: "The black banners will come from the east, with hearts like iron bars. So whoever hears of them, let him go to them and give them bay'ah, even if he must crawl over ice."
These are all the ahadith where the messenger of Allah swas said al Mahdi is among them. Read them all. The messenger of Allah has not mentioned who these black banners are.
These are the other ahadith about black banners:
5. And Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi and Nu'aym ibn Hammad narrated from Abu Hurayrah [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said: "The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] said: "Black banners will come out of Khurasan, and nothing will stop them, until they are raised in Ayliya' [i.e. Bayt al-Maqdis]."
6. And Nu'aym ibn Hammad narrated from Artah that he said: "The Sufyani will enter al-Kufah, plundering it for three days and killing sixty thousand of its inhabitants. Then he will stay there for eighteen nights dividing up its wealth. His entry to Makkah will be after he has fought the Turks and the Romans at Qirqisiya. Then he will be attacked from the rear, so a group of them [i.e. his army] will go back to Khurasan, where the cavalry of the Sufyani will be killed and their fortresses demolished, until the Sufyani enters al-Kufah and pursues the people of Khurasan. And in Khurasan there will appear a people calling to the Mahdi. Then the Sufyani will send an army to al-Madinah, where he will seize a group of people from the family of Muhammad [sallallahu 'alayhi wa- sallam] and imprison them at al-Kufah. Then the Mahdi will come, along with Mansur, fleeing out of al- Kufah, and the Sufyani will send an army in pursuit of them. When the Mahdi and Mansur reach Makkah, the army of the Sufyani will camp at al-Bayda', where they will be swallowed by the earth. Then the Mahdi will come out, until he passes by al-Madinah, where he will rescue the people of Banu Hashim there. And the black banners will come forward until they camp by the water, and the news of their coming will reach the companions of the Sufyani at al-Kufah, so they will flee. Then he [ i.e. the Mahdi] will come to al-Kufah and rescue the Banu Hashim there. A group of the people of al-Kufah will come, called al-'Usab, who have only a few weapons, and among them will be a group of the people of al-Basrah. So they will catch up to the companions of the Sufyani and rescue from their hands the captives from al- Kufah, and the black banners will send the bay'ah to the Mahdi."
7. And Nu'aym ibn Hammad narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah that he said: "A black banner will come, belonging to Banul-'Abbas. Then, from Khurasan will come another one, also black. Their turbans will be black and their garments white. At the head of their army will be a man called Shu'ayb ibn Salih ibn Shu'ayb, from Tamim. They will defeat the companions of the Sufyani until he [i.e. Shu'ayb ibn Salih] settles in Bayt al-Maqdis, preparing the way for the Mahdi's rule. Three hundred men from ash-Sham will help him. Between his coming and the handing over of the rule to the Mahdi will be seventy months."
8. And Nu'aym ibn Hammad narrated from al-Hasan that he said: "A man will come out of ar-Rayy, sturdy and light-brown in complexion, a mawla [ i.e. a non-Arab Muslim who is either a freed slave or one of their descendents] of Banu Tamim, a man with a thin beard growing only on his chin, called Shu'ayb ibn Salih, among four thousand with white clothes and black banners. At the head of his army will be the Mahdi. All who meet him in battle will be struck down by him."
9. And Nu'aym narrated from Abu Ja'far that he said: "A youth from Banu Hashim will come, with a mole on his right hand, from Khurasan with black banners. Before him will be Shu'ayb ibn Salih, who will fight the companions of the Sufyani and defeat them."
10. And he also narrated from Ka'b that he said: "When a man rules over ash-Sham, and another over Egypt, and the Shami and Egyptian fight each other, and the people of ash-Sham take some of the tribes of Egypt captive, and a man comes forward from the east with small black banners towards the ruler of ash-Sham, then it is he who will hand over the rule to the Mahdi."
11. And he also narrated from al-Hasan, that the Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] mentioned a tribulation that his household would encounter: "Until Allah sends a black banner from the east; whoever helps them, Allah will help him, and whoever lets them down, Allah will let him down; until they come to a man whose name is like my name, so He will make him their ruler, and Allah will help him and grant him victory."
12. And he also narrated from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib that he said: "The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] said: "Out of the east will come black banners belonging to Banul-'Abbas, then they will remain as long as Allah wills, then small black banners will come out against a man from the descendents of Abu Sufyan, and his companions, from the east. They will give their obedience to the Mahdi."
13. And he also narrated from 'Ali [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said: "Black banners will come out, fighting the Sufyani, among them a youth from Banu Hashim, with a mole on his left shoulder. At the head of his army will be a man from Banu Tamim called Shu'ayb ibn Salih, who will defeat his [i.e. the Sufyani's] companions."
14. And he also narrated from Abu Ja'far that he said: "The black banners that come out from Khurasan will settle at al- Kufah. When the Mahdi appears in Makkah, they will send the bay'ah to him."
15. And he also narrated from 'Ali ibn Abi Talib [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said: "When the cavalry of the Sufyani comes to al-Kufah, he will send them in pursuit of the people of Khurasan. The people of Khurasan will come out, looking for the Mahdi. Then he and the Hashimi will meet with a group of people with black banners, at their head Shu'ayb ibn Salih. Then he and the companions of the Sufyani will meet in battle at the gate of Istakhar, and a terrible battle will be fought between them. The black banners will be victorious, and the cavalry of the Sufyani will flee. When that happens, the people will wish for the Mahdi and look for him."
16. And he also narrated from Abu Ja'far that he said: "The Sufyani will send his troops to the distant lands after his entry into al- Kufah and Baghdad. There will be an attack on them beyond the river [i.e. the river Oxus] by the people of Khurasan. The people of the east will advance upon them, killing them until the army is driven out. When the news of this reaches him [i.e. the Sufyani], he will send a great army to Istakhar, under the command of a man from Banu Umayyah, and they will fight a battle at Qumis, a battle on the outskirts of ar-Rayy, and a battle at the borders of Zarih. At that time, the Sufyani will order the killing of the people of al-Kufah and the people of al- Madinah. Then the black banners will advance from Khurasan, all of them led by a youth from Banu Hashim with a mole on his right hand. Allah will make easy his affair and his way. Then he will fight a battle at the borders of Khurasan, and the Hashimi will travel on the way to ar-Rayy. A man from the mawali of Banu Tamim called Shu'ayb ibn Salih will go to Istakhar to face the Umawi. So he [i.e. the Umawi] will meet the Mahdi and the Hashimi outside Istakhar, and a terrible battle will take place between them, until the horses will be covered in blood up to their knees. Then a great number of troops will come to him [i.e. the Hashimi] from Sijistan, under the command of a man from Banu 'Adiyy, so Allah will grant victory to his helpers and his troops. Then there will be a battle at al-Mada'in after the two battles at ar- Rayy. At 'Aqir-Qufa there will be the battle of Saylimah, which everyone who survives it will tell about. Then after than there will be a great slaughter at Babylon, and a battle in one of the lands of Nasibin. Then a group from their masses will come out against al-Ahwas [i.e. a man with a defect in his eye]; they are al-'Usab. Most of them will be from al-Kufah and al-Basrah. They will rescue the captives of al-Kufah from his hands."
17. And he also narrated from Abu Ja'far that he said: "Then the Mahdi will appear in Makkah at the 'Isha' prayer, carrying with him the banner of the Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], his cloak and his sword, and with clear signs, light, and proofs. When he has prayed 'Isha', he will call out at the top of his voice, saying: "I remind you of Allah, O people, and of your standing in front of your Lord. For He has made clear the evidence, sent the Prophets, revealed the Book, and commanded you not to associate anything with Him, to observe obedience to Him and to His Messenger [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], to revive that which the Qur'an revived and to abolish that which it abolished, and to be helpers upon right guidance and mutual advisors to piety. For the end of this world has drawn near, and it has begun to announce its farewell. So I call you to Allah and to His Messenger, to act upon His Book, to abolish falsehood, and to revive His Sunnah." So he will appear among three hundred and thirteen men, the number of the people of Badr, without any prior appointment, like scattered Autumn clouds gathering together, worshippers at night, lions during the day. Then Allah will open for the Mahdi the land of al-Hijaz, and he will bring out all who had been imprisoned from among the Banu Hashim. And the black banners will settle at al- Kufah, sending their bay'ah to the Mahdi. The Mahdi will send his troops to the distant lands, putting an end to tyranny and its people. The lands will be righted by him, and Allah will cause Constantinople to be conquered at his hands."
18. And he also narrated from 'Ali [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said: "When the black banners led by Shu'ayb ibn Salih defeat the Sufyani's cavalry, the people will wish for the Mahdi. So they will look for him, and he will come out from Makkah with the banner of the Prophet [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] and pray two rak'ahs, after the people had despaired of his coming due to the long trials that they had suffered. So when he finishes his prayer, he will turn around and say: "O people! Trials have heavily afflicted the Ummah of Muhammad [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], and especially his household. We have been conquered and oppressed."
The black banners who will come in the future are named by the messenger of Allah swas as Banu Hashim and Shu'ayb ibn Salih. So in the future there will come two black banners, one lead bay Banu Hashim and the other by Shu'ayb ibn Salih. Shu'ayb ibn Salih will appear first, then he will incorporate Banu Hasims banner.
The important point is al-Mahdi is not among them (Hadith 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 18 excludes clear al Mahdi is among them( Banu Hashim, Shu'ayb ibn Salih) , he appears in Mekkah alone with the banner (Uqab) of the messenger of Allah swas. Also to notice is the messenger of Allah did not mentioned one time go join them even if you must crawl over ice or al Mahdi is among them.
Al-Hafidh 'Imad ad-Din ibn Kathir said to 1. hadith: "In this is an indication of the rule of Banul-'Abbas, and in it is a proof that the Mahdi will be after the state of Banul-'Abbas, and he will be from the Ahl al-Bayt, from the descendents of Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], then from the children of al-Hasan and al- Husayn."
Note: In the past there have been black banners comming forward from the east belonging to banul- 'Abbas.
Ibn Kathir said to 5. hadith: "These banners are not those of Abu Muslim al-Khurasani who came and overthrew the state of Banu Umayyah in the year 132. Rather, they are other banners that will come in the future, accompanied by the Mahdi." the third of the Islamic caliphates. It was ruled by the Abbasid dynasty of caliphs, who built their capital in Baghdad after overthrowing the Umayyad caliphate from all but the al-Andalus region. Wikipedia The Abbasid caliphate was founded by the descendants of the Prophet Muhammad's youngest uncle, -Muttalib, in Harran in 750 CE and shifted its capital in 762 to Baghdad. It flourished for two centuries, but slowly went into decline with the rise to power of the Turkish army it had created, the Mamluks. Wikipedia In the 8th, century, as Islam spread towards the Amu Darya, the Turks came into contact with its universal precepts and embraced the new faith. Many found service in the armed forces of the Abbasid Empire. Using their innate qualities of leadership, some rose through the ranks, occupied important positions in the army and by the middle of the 9th century, became the kingmakers in Baghdad. By the end of the 9th century, they had replaced the Caliphate in Baghdad with the Sultanate as the de-facto political power. The Origins of the Ottoman Empire Contributed by Prof. Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, PhD It is commonly held by Euopean historians that the Seljuks represent the first Turks who "migrated into" Muslim lands. A closer study of historical sources reveals that this view does not take into account theTurks who lived in greater Khurasan both before and after the Arab Conquests of the seventh and eighth centuries A : D The Muslim Records are substantiated by notices in Byzantine, Syriac and Chinese records which refer to the Ephthalites and other peoples as Turks. The contents of various accounts of these Turks indicate that they were not merely mecenary soldiers, nor the ruling class, but formed an important part of the population of Khurasan and Tansoxania. The Muslim World Volume 35, Issue 4, pages 308315, October 1945 The messenger of Allah was reffering to the black banners of Abu Muslim Khurasani formed by turkish forces. The current turkey has his origins in these black banners. Both banners (Turkey and the banners of Shu'ayb ibn Salih) have many similar cahracteristics, for that reason its easy to mix them up.
They will come from the East They will come from the historical geographical region of Ancient Khorasan. They will be famous as a fierce warrior nation. They will be from a poor Nation. They will rise to a big Nation and they will support Khalifa
We see today Turkey to get closer and closer to the middle east and playing a leading role in the middle east.
He will appear with the camel hair banner of our Prophet (saas). That banner has four corners, is unstitched and black in color. There is a halo on it. It has not been unfurled since the death of our Prophet (saas), but it will be opened when the Mahdi appears. (Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir al- zaman, p. 23)
As for signs, he will have with him the shirt, the sword, and the banner of our Prophet (saas). That banner has never been unfurled since the death of our Prophet (saas). And, it will not be unfurled until the appearance of the Mahdi. (Portents of Doomsday, p. 164)
The banner, the color, shape, and stitching of which are described in the hadiths of our Prophet (saas), is today housed in the Sacred Relics Department at Topkapi Palace Istanbul.

Some people will appear from the East and prepare the way for Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh). Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will be the ruler among them. (Ibn Majah, Kitabul Fitan: 35 (4088) HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) WILL EMERGE FROM THE FORMER CENTER OF THE CALIPHATE
Hazrat Mahdi (as) and his system represent the central point of the hadith concerning the events of the End Times. Most of the major incidents in the End Times will revolve around Hazrat Mahdi (as). There are various accounts concerning the location of these events, but Bedizzaman Said Nursi clarifies the issue by saying:
Now, the difference in the narrations about individuals like the Mahdi, and their meaning, is this: those who expounded Hadiths applied the text of the Hadiths to their own interpretations and commentaries. For example, since the centre of power at that time was Damascus or Medina, they imagined the events connected with the Mahdi and Sufyan in places like Basra, Kufa, and Syria, which were in the region of those centers, and expounded them accordingly. (The Words / Twenty-Fourth Word - Third Branch - p.355)
Since in early times the centers of the Caliphate were in Iraq, Damascus, and Medina, on their own interpretations, the narrators showed these events as occurring close to the centre of Islamic government, as though it was always going to remain thus, and said Aleppo and Damascus. They added their own details to the succinct predictions of the Hadith. (The Rays / The Fifth Ray - Second Station - p.107)
Although different cities appear in the hadith, the common feature of the accounts concerning the location of the events of the End Times is that they will take place in the capital of the Caliphate, where the two standards, the sword and robe of our Prophet (saas) are kept. As can be seen from Bediuzzaman's statements, the scholars who narrated the hadith of the End Times spoke of the events of the End Times being based in the centers of the caliphate of their own times. With regard to the place where Hazrat Mahdi (as) will appear from, each scholar has cited places such as Iraq, Damascus, Kufa and Medina as the centers of the caliphate in their own times. That is the reason for the difference in the accounts regarding the location of Hazrat Mahdis (as) emergence. Because the knowledge and information possessed by the narrators of these hadith has gradually been added to the accounts (mixed with those of the original transmitters) and thus given them their present form. The capital of the Caliphate has changed several times since the days of our Prophet (saas) Damascus, Aleppo, Kufa, Mecca and finally Istanbul.
However, the common feature of the accounts regarding the location of the events of the End Times is that they will take place in the center of the Caliphate.
Bediuzzaman also reached that conclusion. The final center of the caliphate was Istanbul. The caliphate was officially abolished at the beginning of the last century, and it was never transferred anywhere else after that time. The two standards, sword and robe of our Prophet (saas), together with other holy relics, are kept in Istanbul. In conclusion, Istanbul is the only city to still bear this spiritual title. For that reason, that is where Hazrat Mahdi (as) may be expected to appear from.(Allah knows the truth.)
Black Banners from Khurasan (Afghanistan) to Jerusalem
Reported on a chain of transmission on the authority of Kaab "The sign of the Mahdi's appearance will be war banners coming from the west, lead by a man with a disability from "Kinda". (Nuaym son of Hammad, Al-Fitan page 205)
Abu Abdullah Nuaim Ibn Hammad on a chain of transmission on the authority of Al Zuhari who said "The black flags will come from the East, led by mighty men, with long hair and beards, their surnames are taken from the names of their home towns (i.e. Khosti or from Khost etc.) and their first names are from a "Kunya". (Asmal Masalik Lieyyam Mahdiyy Maliki Li Kull-id Dunya Biemrillah-il Malik, Qalda bin Zayd)
Narrated Abdullah ibn Hawalah al-Azdi: "The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) sent us on foot to get spoil, but we returned without getting any. When he saw the signs of distress on our faces, he stood up on our faces and said: O Allah, do not put them under my care, for I would be too weak to care for them; do not put them in care of themselves, for they would be incapable of that, and do not put them in the care of men, for they would choose the best things for themselves. He then placed his hand on my head and said: Ibn Hawalah, when you see the caliphate has settled in the holy land (i.e., Palestine), earthquakes, sorrows and serious matters will have drawn near and on that day the Last Hour will be nearer to mankind than this hand of mine is to your head. (Translation of Sunan Abu-Dawud, Jihad (Kitab Al-Jihad), Book 14, Number 2529)
Ammar, the son of Yasir, may Allah be pleased with both of them, said: "When As-Sufyaani reaches Kufa and kills the supporters of the family of Muhammad, praise and peace be upon him, the Mahdi will come and the bearer of his Banner will be Shuayb, the son of Salih."
Nuaim Ibn Hammad on a chain of transmission on the authority of Al Zuhari who said, "If the people of the black flag divide, then the people of the yellow banner will attack, they will gather in the canal of Egypt and the people of the East and the West will fight for seven (days or months or years)..." (Asmal Masalik Lieyyam Mahdiyy Maliki Li Kull-id Dunya Biemrillah-il Malik, Qalda bin Zayd)
Muhammad, son of Al Hanaffia, said:"The Black Banners will come out for the children of Al Abbas. The other black banners will come from Khurasan. Their turbans will be black and their clothes white. At their front will be a man named Shuayb, the son of Salih, from Tamim. They will defeat the companions of The Sufyaani until he comes to the House of Jerusalem where he will establish his power for the Mahdi, and he will be supplied with three hundred (men) from Syria after his arrival and the matter will be settled for the Mahdi in seventy-two months (six years)."
Said son of Al Musayyab reported: "The Black Banners will come from the East from the children of Al Abbas. Then there will remain whatsoever Allah wishes. Then, small Black Banners will come to fight a man from the children of Abu Sufyaan from the East. They will give their allegiance to the Mahdi." (Nuaym son of Hammad.)
Al Hasan Al Basri said: "A man of medium stature will come from Ar-Ray (a far-eastern town). He will be dark and from the children of Tamim -- a Wasaj, named Shuayb son of Salih with four thousand men. Their clothes will be white and Banners black, and at his front is the Mahdi. He meets no one that he does not defeat and scatter."
Abdullah, the son of Shuraykh, said: "With the Mahdi is the marked Banner of the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him."
Ammar, the son of Yasir, may Allah be pleased with both of them, said: "The bearer of the Banner of the Mahdi is Shuayb, the son of Salih."
Reported by Abu Said Al Khudri: "A man from my nation will come who speaks with my Sunnah and Allah, the Mighty, the Glorified will send showers of rain from the heavens so that the earth will produce its blessing. Through him the earth will be filled with fairness and justice just as it had been filled by oppression and injustice. He will govern this nation for seven years, and go to Jerusalem." (Abu Dawud, Al Hakim, At-Tirmidhi, Ahmad, son of Hibban, Muslim, Al Tabarani, Al Barudi and Abu Nuaym)
On the authority of Thawban, the Messenger of Allah (upon whom be blessings and peace) said:The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said: "Before your treasure, three will kill each other -- all of them are sons of a different caliph but none will be the recipient. Then the Black Banners will appear from the East and they will kill you in a way that has never before been done by a nation." Thawban, a companion said: 'Then he said something that I do not remember by heart' then continued to say that the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, said: "If you see him give him your allegiance, even if you have to crawl over ice, because surely he is the Caliph of Allah, the Mahdi. If you see the black (meaning war) flags coming from Khurasan (Afghanistan), join that army, even if you have to crawl over ice, for this is the army of the Caliph, the Mahdi and no one can stop that army until it reaches Jerusalem." (Son of Majah, Al Busiri, Al Hakim, Ahmad Nuaym, Ad-Daylami, Hasan, son of Sufyaan, and Abu Nuaym.)
Related by Abu Hurayrah: The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said: "(Armies carrying) black flags will come from Khurasan (Afghanistan). No power will be able to stop them and they will finally reach Jerusalem where they will erect their flags." (Tirmidhi)
Ali said, The Prophet said, A man named al-Harith son of Hirath will come from Transoxania (Tajikistan). His army will be led by a man named Mansoor. He will be pave the way for and establish the government of the family of Muhammad, just as the Quraysh established the government of the Messenger of Allah. Every believer will be obliged to support them. (Abu-Dawud.)
Buraidah says that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: "There will be many armies after me. You must join that army which will come from Khurasaan." (Ibn Adi)
Abu Hurairah says that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: "(Armies carrying) black flags will come from Khurasaan. No power will be able to stop them and they will finally reach Eela (Baitul Maqdas) where they will erect their flags."
