Business Card
Description: Matching letterhead and business card (front and back) for a company
and logo that I created.
Date: June 14, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 2/Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
Objectives: Create a new logo to ft a company. Use the basic tools of InDesign and
Illustrator.
Process: The frst thing I did was to create the logo using Adobe Illustrator. I created
it using strictly the shapes tool and just used the pathfnder to merge, divide and
all of that to create the image all together. I used a bunch of different colors to get
the exact color that I wanted and then once I had it, I saved my Illustrator document
and then opened it up on InDesign. On my second document I just clicked on the
page after clicking on my rectangle tool and created two rectangles for my business
cards. Then I did basically the same format as my letterhead and so I just copied and
pasted the information over to the second document. Then I did fle place again
with my logo to make it big and put it on the back of my business card going off
the card. The programs that I used for this project were Adobe InDesign and Adobe
Illustrator.

I inserted my logo and then sized it down so that it would be the perfect size in the
top corner of my paper. After that, I created two text boxes and wrote my company
name in. After I typed in the text and placed the two right underneath each other,
I squished Burton Wedding and spread out photography to align them just
perfectly. Then I created my dotted line to go to the other side of the page where I
put all my name and information using the text box tool. Then I copied the dotted
line that I used at the top and pasted it to created a second one to put at the bottom
of the page. Then I did fle place and put my logo into this document again but this
time made it much bigger and put it going off the page. After that I changed the
opacity to about 15 to give it a watermark. After printing, The programs that I used
for this project were Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator.
Brochure
Description: This is a two-sided folded brochure
Date: July 13, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 2/Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided folded document. Learn how to wrap text
around an image and to use paragraph styles in InDesign.
Process: The frst thing I did on this project was to set up the layout in InDesign of
what I wanted my brochure to look like. Then I went into Illustrator to create a whole
new logo. By doing this, I created two boxes each with a different color and then used
the same rectangle tool to created lines to give the k and h look for my logo. Then
using the pathfnder tool, I merged all of it together and saved it and then brough it
into InDesign. After compiling a bunch of different pictures for my brochure, I placed
them all into my InDesign project and to put together the outside of my brochure
front and back. After creating the titles of the paragraphs, I decided to create some
boxes with the colors that I used from my logo to give some repitition to my project.
After all of my text was completed and put into my project, I went into Photoshop and
did some clipping to one of my images to crop out the background. Once I was done
doing that, I saved it and then placed the image into my InDesign to fnish it up. After
I had placed it though, I knew something was still missing from my project because
it just looked a little bland and so I searched for another picture to add and I found a
great picture of the bride and groom kissing as the wedding party held up sparklers
and I placed it into my brochure. Then I made the image a watermark to put it behind
all of the text on one side of the brochure.
Webpage
Description: This is a webpage to show an original logo that I created.
Date: June 28, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 2/Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools: Text Wrangler, Adobe Photoshop
Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo for a webpage. Write content
that describes how you created it and how it appeals to your audience. Design a
webpage using HTML to display the logo and content. Then continue on it using
CSS. Compress your multiple fles into a zipped folder.
Process: This process was over the course of two weeks and it started last week
when I created the HTML using TextWrangler. I had never used this program before
but it was really convenient for this project and seemed to make it easier to create
a webpage. So after I had created the HTML, the second week, I focused more on
creating the CSS which was also used in TextWrangler. When I was creating the
CSS for this project, I used photoshop a lot to get the index codes to my colors for
the webpage. I used the eyedropper tool to make sure that I was getting the exact
colors of my logo so that everything was exact. Then to match the fonts that I used
in my logo, I went back to my logos project to fnd out which font was used so that
I could do the same and match everything up. As I was creating my CSS, I did a lot
of command+s and then refreshing my webpage to watch the changes that I was
making in my project. The programs that I used was TextWrangler, and Photoshop.

the fall season.
Date: May 31, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 2/Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop
Objectives: Learning Photoshop layers and how to create masks
Process: The frst thing I did in my process on this project was to come up with an
idea of what I wanted to present and I had watched a movie that took place in the
northeast of the country where the leaves on trees are so colorful and vibrant during
the autumn and in the movie there is a couple who falls in love and I just loved the
setting so I wanted to do something with a couple and a fall background and so I
found my images on Pinterest and then I put the frst picture into Photoshop and
did a little bit of editing to the image before I added the image of the couple into
it. Then using all tools on Photoshop, I created a mask on the second image and
then using the pain tool, I started to blur the image to fade it into the background.
Then I used the text box tool to create my text and played around with the different
contrast to fgure out which one I liked the most. Then I created a box tool around
the text and then created a mask behind that to blur it into the background image
as well. The programs that I used for this was Adobe Photoshop.
Imaging
Description: This is to show the photography skills and the editing skills I learned
in class this week as well as with Photoshop. I also learned how to pick my color
scheme for my project before taking the picture.
Date: May 25, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 2/Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools: Photoshop, Canon Camera
Objectives: Learning the basic skills of photography and then learning how to do
edits in Photoshop. Also using the selection tool to take out parts of an image.
Process: The frst thing I did for this project was went to the circulation desk in
the library on campus to rent a camera that would take a good solid picture that I
wanted to use for my project. After I took my composition photo of my roommate
Kylee, I uploaded the picture onto the computers in the Spori lab and then was able
to submit it into Photoshop to start my project. I did a little bit of editing on the
picture frst but I did most of it at the end after I had inserted all of my background
colors and the text and did all of that editing. I used the Canon cameras in the
library and I used Photoshop. I also used the internet to be able to search for things
that I was unaware of how to use on Photoshop.

Description: A black and white fier advertising for an upcoming leadership
conference for graduates.
Date: May 11, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 2/Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesign
Objectives: Apply design principles learned in class into InDesign by taking the logo
and text given to us on iLearn.
Process: The frst step I took in this project was creating sketches on a piece of paper.
I had about 6 different sketch ideas (although I only turned in 4 as a grade) and then
I picked my favorite one and decided to use that as my layout. Then I went to the lab
in the Spori and opened InDesign to start putting my sketch on the computer. As I
was creating the layout though, I started to not just stick to one of my sketch ideas,
but started pulling different ideas from all of my sketches. I did the top part of my
fier frst and then was able to complete the bottom part where my logo is. I really
struggled with where to place the picture and the text because everywhere I put
them just looked funny to me. I am terrifed of white space so it was hard for me to
make the text small and give white space. Before I put in the text though, I put in
the picture and thought I could make it fade in gradient a little bit and hopefully
that would give me some sort of white space. After putting in all the requirements, I
turned in my rough draft and was able to get feedback from my class members and
Sister Peterson which was a big help! Then I went back into the lab and make all the
changes to fnalize my project.
Logos
Description: These are the three logo variations for the company Bingos
Date: June 7, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 2/Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Objectives: Create a variety of logos for a company using the tools of Adobe
Illustrator
Process: I used the pen tool to create just about everything in this project. I used the
ellipse tool to create the paw print in my frst logo as well as with my other logos
but on the second and third logo, I used the pen tool to touch up some things in
my images such as the dog bone. I ended up converting the dog tag of the second
logo into an image and then changed some of the image effects to give it more of
that metal dog tag look. All of the writing for the logos are then just used with basic
typography. The only programs that were used on this project was Adobe Illustrator.

Event Ad
Description: A full color bleed ad to promote a charity event to help the local
childrens shelter. Its trying to get people to donate their coats to those in need or to
donate their money.
Date: May 18, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 2/Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools: Microsoft Word, EPSON scanner
Objectives: A full bleed color ad to promote a fundraiser by using an image that was
scanned.
Process: The frst process I took was that I found an image in People magazine of
an Old Navy ad and I scanned this image using the EPSON scanner in the Spori
lab. I cropped all of the excess out so that it was a smaller image. I posted it into my
word document when I was ready to start my project and then I used the remove
background tool to get rid of all of the background imaging so that I only had
the man and the girl in the picture. Then I started adding in the background color
teal. I was going to add an effect to the background color but it looked to busy
with the image so I just kept it as is. Then I added my title and all of my body copy
and started just messing around with where to place everything and eventually it
seemed to all work for me. I was amazed to see how much Photoshop like things
you can do in word! It just makes me excited to get to Photoshop. The tools that I
used were the EPSON scanner in the lab, Microsoft word and then the PDF to JPG
converter online.
