HS Host Monitor is an I6 net!or7 monitoring so*t!are *or Windo!s !+ic+ allo!s you to monitor u( do!n
status o* I6 +osts on your local 89 and on t+e Internet.
HS Host Monitor so*t!are system consists o* a server net!or7 monitoring a((lication *or Windo!s and a :;I
client monitoring a((lication t+at connects to t+e server. HS Host Monitor server and t+e client can 5e
installed on t+e same or on di**erent com(uters.
9n o(erator can manage t+e test items and see t+e current status o* t+e monitored +osts <monitored items=,
u( or do!n3 receive events in real time and ins(ect old events. "+e u( - do!n events *or all monitored +osts
are saved in an S>8 data5ase at t+e server side.

HS Host Monitor server and t+e client can 5e installed on t+e same or on di**erent com(uters.
2.1 Installing HS Host Monitor Server
@irst install t+e HS Host Monitor Server on a com(uter t+at is going to monitor your net!or7. 8aunc+ t+e HS
Host Monitor a((lication.
I* during t+e installation o* t+e HS Host Monitor Server you tic7 t+e c+ec75o% AStart !it+ !indo!sB3 HS Host
Monitor Server !ill 5e started everytime t+e 6C 5oots u( and a user logs in.
HS Host Monitor Server creates an icon in t+e !indo!s tas75ar. W+en you clic7 t+e system menu close
5utton3 t+e a((lication continues running +idden. W+en you clic7 on t+e icon in t+e !indo!s tas75ar3 HS
Host Monitor Server control !indo! is s+o!n again.
"o *ully Cuit HS Host Monitor Server a((lication3 go to t+e (rogramDs menu .E "ools .E $%it.
2.2 Installing HS Host Monitor Client
"o monitor control and con*igure t+e HS Host Monitor Server and to monitor your test I6 devices3 <called Atest
itemsB=3 you need to install and run HS Host Monitor Client.
Install t+e HS Host Monitor Client on any com(uter t+at can access t+e HS Host Monitor Server com(uter
over I6 net!or7. "+is can 5e t+e same com(uter on !+ic+ t+e server is running or it can 5e a di**erent
com(uter.
Run t+e HS Host Monitor Client a((lication3 you !ill 5e as7ed *or I6 address and (ort num5er o* t+e HS Host
Monitor Server to connect to. I* t+e client and sever are on t+e same 6C3 s(eci*y i( address 12).0.0.13
ot+er!ise s(eci*y t+e I6 address o* t+e com(uter on !+ic+ you installed t+e HS Host Monitor Server. "+e
(ort num5er must mac+ t+e (ort num5er on !+ic+ t+e HS Host Monitor Server is listening *or t+e client
connection. Fy de*ault t+e (ort num5er is 2111.
Clic7 A?GB3 once connection to t+e server is esta5lis+ed you can start con*iguring t+e test items and ot+er
as(ects o* t+e server o(eration.
! Creating "e# Test Items
"o create a ne! test item3 clic7 Ae! ItemB 5utton in t+e HS Host Monitor Client main screen.
In t+e test item con*iguration dialog3 enter

"o use t+is *eature you !ill need to con*igure serverDs SM"6 email settings and a common administrator
email address t+roug+ server con*iguration3 5y clic7ing ASettingsB 5utton. $mail settings need only 5e
con*igured once and are valid *or all test items.
Clic7 ASaveB to commit t+e ne! item con*uguration
"+e ne! item a((ears in t+e list o* monitored test items.

"o edit an e%isting test item3 select t+e reCuired test item in t+e list o* monitored test items in t+e main screen
o* t+e HS Host Monitor client3 t+en eit+er dou5le clic7 t+e list entry or clic7 A$dit ItemB 5utton.
"+e same test item con*iguration dialog is des(layed as *or creating a ne! test item3 e%e(t all t+e *ields are
(o(ulated !it+ t+e values o* t+e selected item. $dit t+e *ields as needed and clic7 ASaveB. "+e c+anges are
re*lected in t+e monitored itemsD list and in t+e server data5ase.
' emoving Test Items
"o remove an e%isting test item3 select t+e reCuired test item in t+e list o* monitored test items in t+e main
screen o* t+e HS Host Monitor client3 t+en clic7 A4elete ItemB 5utton.
( Starting and sto))ing monitoring a test item
W+en test item is created 5y de*ault its state is Asto((edB. "o start testing t+e item3 select it in t+e monitored
items list in t+e HS Host Monitor Client main screen and clic7 AStart "estB 5utton. "o sto( testing t+e item clic7
ASto( "estB 5utton.
* Server Configuration
"o con*igure t+e server settings clic7 ASettingsB 5utton *rom t+e main screen o* t+e HS Host Monitor client3
Select an a((ro(riate section o* con*iguration in t+e list on t+e le*t3 *or e%am(le A:eneralB or A$mailB.
In t+e A:eneralB section3 you can con*igure t+e server (ort num5er on !+ic+ it is listening *or t+e client
connection.
In t+e A$mailB section you can con*igure SM"6 settings *or outgoing mail t+e t+e HS Host Monitor server can
send to net!or7 administrator !+en one or more o* monitored items +ave c+anged state. "+ere you also
s(eci*y t+e email address o* t+e net!or7 administrator !+o !ill receive suc+ email noti*ications.
W+en done c+anging t+e server settings3 clic7 ASaveB.
It is recommeded to e%it t+e server a((lication and restart it *or all t+e c+anges to ta7e e**ect.
