CHAPTER - I
+. ,hitta has t"o auses% -asanas and '*rana( -ayu. .& one o& them is ontrolled% then both are
ontrolled.
/. O& these t"o% a person should ontrol '*rana( -ayu al"ays through moderate &ood% postures and
thirdly 0a#ti-,hala.
1-2. . shall e3plain the nature o& these. )isten to it% O 4autama. One should ta#e a s"eet and
nutritious &ood% leaving a &ourth 'o& his stomah( un&illed% in order to please 0hiva 'the patron o&
Yogins(. This is alled moderate &ood. *osture herein re5uired is o& t"o #inds% *adma and -a$ra.
6. *laing the t"o heels over the t"o opposite thighs 'respetively( is the *adma 'posture( "hih is
the destroyer o& all sins.
7. *laing one heel belo" the Mula#anda and the other over it and sitting "ith the ne#% body and
head eret is the -a$ra posture.
8. The 0a#ti 'mentioned above( is only Kundalini. A "ise man should ta#e it up &rom its plae
'-i9.% the navel% up"ards( to the middle o& the eyebro"s. This is alled 0a#ti-,hala.
:. .n pratising it% t"o things are neessary% 0arasvati-,halana and the restraint o& *rana 'breath(.
Then through pratie% Kundalini '"hih is spiral( beomes straightened.
;-+<'a(. O& these t"o% . shall e3plain to you &irst 0arasvati-,halana. .t is said by the "ise o& old that
0arasvati is no other than Arundhati. .t is only by rousing her up that Kundalini is roused.
+<'b(-++'a(. =hen *rana breath is passing through 'one>s( .da 'le&t nostril(% he should assume &irmly
*adma-posture and should lengthen 'in"ards( 2 digits the A#asa o& +/ digits.
++'b(-+1'a(. Then the "ise man should bind the '0arasvati( Nadi by means o& this lengthened
'breath( and holding &irmly together 'both his ribs near the navel( by means o& the &ore&ingers and
thumbs o& both hands% 'one hand on eah side( should stir up Kundalini "ith all his might &rom
right to le&t o&ten and o&ten! &or a period o& t"o Muhurtas '2: minutes(% he should be stirring it up
&earlessly.
+1'b(-+2. Then he should dra" up a little "hen Kundalini enters 0usumna. ?y this means%
Kundalini enters the mouth o& 0usumna. *rana 'also( having le&t 'that plae( enters o& itsel& the
0usumna 'along "ith Kundalini(.
+6. ?y ompressing the ne#% one should also e3pand the navel. Then by sha#ing 0arasvati% *rana
goes above 'to( the hest.
+7-+8. Through the ontration o& the ne#% *rana goes above &rom the hest. 0arasvati "ho has
sound in her "omb should be sha#en 'or thro"n into vibration( eah day. There&ore by merely
sha#ing it% one is ured o& diseases.
+:. 4ulma 'a spleneti disease(% @alodara 'dropsy(% *liha 'a spleneti disease( and all other diseases
arising "ithin the belly% are undoubtedly destroyed by sha#ing this 0a#ti.
+;. . shall no" brie&ly desribe to you *ranayama. *rana is the -ayu that moves in the body and its
restraint "ithin is #no"n as Kumbha#a.
/<. .t is o& t"o #inds% 0ahita and Kevala. One should pratise 0ahita till he gets Kevala.
/+. There are &our ?hedas 'lit.% pierings or divisions( vi9.% 0urya% U$$ayi% 0itali and ?hastri. The
Kumbha#a assoiated "ith these &our is alled 0ahita Kumbha#a.
//-/1. ?eing seated in the *adma posture upon a pure and pleasant seat "hih gives ease and is
neither too high nor too lo"% and in a plae "hih is pure% lovely and &ree &rom pebbles% et.% and
"hih &or the length o& a bo" is &ree &rom old% &ire and "ater% one should sha#e 'or thro" into
vibration( 0arasvati!
/2. 0lo"ly inhaling the breath &rom outside% as long as he desires% through the right nostril% he
should e3hale it through the le&t nostril.
/6. He should e3hale it a&ter puri&ying his s#ull 'by &oring the breath up(. This destroys the &our
#inds o& evils aused by -ayu as also by intestinal "orms.
/7'a(. This should be done o&ten and it is this "hih is spo#en o& as 0urya-?heda.
/7'b(-/8. ,losing the mouth and dra"ing up slo"ly the breath as be&ore "ith the nose through both
the Nadis 'or nostrils( and retaining it in the spae bet"een the heart and the ne#% one should
e3hale it through the le&t nostril.
/:. This destroys the heat aused in the head as "ell as the phlegm in the throat. .t removes all
diseases% puri&ies his body and inreases the 'gastri( &ire "ithin.
/;. .t removes also the evils arising in the Nadis% @alodara '"aterbelly or dropsy( and Ahatus. This
Kumbha#a is alled U$$ayi and may be pratised 'even( "hen "al#ing or standing.
1<. Ara"ing up the breath as be&ore through the tongue "ith 'the hissing sound o&( B0a> and
retaining it as be&ore% the "ise man should slo"ly e3hale it through 'both( the nostrils.
1+. This is alled 0itali Kumbha#a and destroys diseases% suh as 4ulma% *itha% onsumption% bile%
&ever% thirst and poison.
1/. 0eated in the *adma posture "ith belly and ne# eret% the "ise man should lose the mouth and
e3hale "ith are through the nostrils.
11. Then he should inhale a little "ith speed up to the heart% so that the breath may &ill the spae
"ith noise bet"een the ne# and s#ull.
12-16. Then he should e3hale in the same "ay and inhale o&ten and o&ten. @ust as the bello"s o& a
smith are moved 'vi9.% stu&&ed "ith air "ithin and then the air is let out(% so he should move the air
"ithin his body. .& the body gets tired% then he should inhale through the right nostril.
17-18'a(. .& his belly is &ull o& -ayu% then he should press "ell his nostrils "ith all his &ingers e3ept
his &ore&inger and per&orming Kumbha#a as be&ore% should e3hale through the le&t nostril.
18'b(-1:. This &rees one &rom diseases o& &ire in 'or in&lammation o&( the throat% inreases the gastri
&ire "ithin% enables one to #no" the Kundalini% produes purity removing sins% gives happiness and
pleasure and destroys phlegm "hih is the bolt 'or obstale( to the door at the mouth o& ?rahma-
Nadi 'vi9.% 0usumna(.
1;. .t pieres also the three 4ranthis 'or #nots( di&&erentiated through the three 4unas. This
Kumbha#a is #no"n as ?hastri and should espeially be per&ormed.
2<. Through these &our "ays "hen Kumbha#a is near 'or is about to be per&ormed(% the sinless
Yogin should pratise the three ?andhas.
2+. The &irst is alled Mulabandha. The seond is alled Uddiyana and the third is @alandhara. Their
nature "ill be thus desribed.
2/. Apana 'breath( "hih has a do"n"ard tendeny is &ored up by one bending do"n. This proess
is alled Mulabandha.
21. =hen Apana is raised up and reahes the sphere o& Agni '&ire(% then the &lame o& Agni gro"s
long% being blo"n about by -ayu.
22-26'a(. Then Agni and Apana ome to 'or ommingle "ith( *rana in a heated state. Through this
Agni "hih is very &iery% there arises in the body the &laming 'or the &ire( "hih rouses the sleeping
Kundalini through its heat.
26'b(-27. Then this Kundalini ma#es a hissing noise% beomes eret li#e a serpent beaten "ith sti#
and enters the hole o& ?rahmanadi '0usumna(. There&ore Yogins should daily pratise Mulabandha
o&ten.
28-2:'a(. Uddiyana should be per&ormed at the end o& Kumbha#a and at the beginning o& e3piration.
?eause *rana Uddiyate 'vi9.% goes up( the 0usumna in this ?andha% there&ore is alled Uddiyana by
the Yogins.
2:'b(-2;'a(. ?eing seated in the -a$ra posture and holding &irmly the t"o toes by the t"o hands% he
should press at the Kanda and at the plae near the t"o an#les.
2;'b(-6<. Then he should gradually upbear the Tana 'thread or Nadi( "hih is on the "estern side
&irst to Udara 'the upper part o& the abdomen above the navel(% then to the heart and then to the
ne#. =hen *rana reahes the 0andhi '$untion( o& navel% slo"ly it removes the impurities 'or
diseases( in the navel. There&ore this should be &re5uently pratised.
6+. The ?andha alled @alandhara should be pratised at the end o& Kumbha#a. This @alandhara is o&
the &orm o& the ontration o& the ne# and is an impediment to the passage o& -ayu 'up"ards(.
6/. =hen the ne# is ontrated at one by bending do"n"ards 'so that the hin may touh the
breast(% *rana goes through ?rahmanadi on the "estern Tana in the middle.
61. Assuming the seat as mentioned be&ore% one should stir up 0arasvati and ontrol *rana.
62. On the &irst day Kumbha#a should be done &our times! on the seond day it should be done ten
times and then &ive times separately!
66. On the third day% t"enty times "ill do and a&ter"ards Kumbha#a should be per&ormed "ith the
three ?andhas and "ith an inrease o& &ive times eah day.
67-68. Aiseases are generated in one>s body through the &ollo"ing auses% vi9.% sleeping in daytime%
late vigils over night% e3ess o& se3ual interourse% moving in ro"d% the he#ing o& the disharge
o& urine and &aees% the evil o& un"holesome &ood and laborious mental operation "ith *rana.
6:. .& a Yogin is a&raid o& suh diseases '"hen atta#ed by them(% he says% Cmy diseases have arisen
&rom my pratie o& YogaD. Then he "ill disontinue this pratie. This is said to be the &irst
obstale to Yoga.
6;. The seond 'obstale( is doubt! the third is arelessness! the &ourth% la9iness! the &i&th% sleep!
7<. The si3th% the not leaving o& ob$ets 'o& sense(! the seventh% erroneous pereption! the eighth%
sensual ob$ets! the ninth% "ant o& &aith!
7+. And the tenth% the &ailure to attain the truth o& Yoga. A "ise man should abandon these ten
obstales a&ter great deliberation.
7/. The pratie o& *ranayama should be per&ormed daily "ith the mind &irmly &i3ed on Truth. Then
,hitta is absorbed in 0usumna and *rana 'there&ore( never moves.
71. =hen the impurities 'o& ,hitta( are thus removed and *rana is absorbed in 0usumna% he
beomes a 'true( Yogin.
72. Apana% "hih has a do"n"ard tendeny should be raised up "ith e&&ort by the ontration 'o&
the anus( and this is spo#en o& as Mulabandha.
76. Apana thus raised up mi3es "ith Agni and then they go up 5ui#ly to the seat o& *rana. Then
*rana and Apana uniting "ith one another go to Kundalini% "hih is oiled up and asleep.
77-78. Kundalini being heated by Agni and stirred up by -ayu% e3tends her body in the mouth o&
0usumna% pieres the ?rahmagranthi &ormed o& ra$as and &lashes at one li#e lightning at the mouth
o& 0usumna.
7:-7;'a(. Then it goes up at one through -ishnugranthi to the heart. Then it goes up through
Eudragranthi and above it to the middle o& the eyebro"s! having piered this plae% it goes up to the
Mandala 'sphere( o& the moon.
7;'b(-8<'a(. .t dries up the moisture produed by the moon in the Anahata-,ha#ra having si3teen
petals.
8<'b(-8+. =hen the blood is agitated through the speed o& *rana% it beomes bile &rom its ontat
"ith the sun% a&ter "hih it goes to the sphere o& the moon "here it beomes o& the nature o& the
&lo" o& pure phlegm. Ho" does it 'blood( "hih is very old beome hot "hen it &lo"s there F
8/. '0ine( at the same time the intense "hite &orm o& moon is speedily heated. Then being agitated%
it goes up.
81. Through ta#ing in this% ,hitta "hih "as moving amidst sensual ob$ets e3ternally% is restrained
there. The novie en$oying this high state attains peae and beomes devoted to Atman.
82. Kundalini assumes the eight &orms o& *ra#riti 'matter( and attains 0hiva by enirling him and
dissolves itsel& in 0hiva.
86. Thus Ea$as-0u#la 'seminal &luid( "hih rises up goes to 0hiva along "ith Marut '-ayu(! *rana
and Apana "hih are al"ays produed beome e5ual.
87. *ranas &lo" in all things% great and small% desribable% or indesribable% as &ire in gold.
88. Then this body "hih is Adhibhauti#a 'omposed o& elements( beomes Adhidaivata 'relating to
a tutelar deity( and is thus puri&ied. Then it attains the stage o& Ativahi#a.
8:. Then the body being &reed &rom the inert state beomes stainless and o& the nature o& ,hit. .n it%
the Ativahi#a beomes the hie& o& all% being o& the nature o& That.
8;. )i#e the oneption o& the sna#e in a rope% so the idea o& the release &rom li&e and 0amsara is the
delusion o& time.
:<. =hatever appears is unreal. =hatever is absorbed is unreal. )i#e the illusory oneption o&
silver in the mother-o&-pearl% so is the idea o& man and "oman.
:+. The miroosm and the maroosm are one and the same! so also the )inga and 0utratman%
0vabhava 'substane( and &orm and the sel&-resplendent light and ,hidatma.
:/. The 0a#ti named Kundalini% "hih is li#e a thread in the lotus and is resplendent% is biting "ith
the upper end o& its hood 'namely% mouth( at the root o& the lotus the Mula#anda.
:1-:2. Ta#ing hold o& its tail "ith its mouth% it is in ontat "ith the hole o& ?rahmarandhra 'o&
0usumna(. .& a person seated in the *adma posture and having austomed himsel& to the
ontration o& his anus ma#es his -ayu go up"ard "ith the mind intent on Kumbha#a% then Agni
omes to 0vadhisthana &laming% o"ing to the blo"ing o& -ayu.
:6. Grom the blo"ing o& -ayu and Agni% the hie& 'Kundalini( pieres open the ?rahmagranthi and
then -ishnugranthi.
:7. Then it pieres Eudragranthi% a&ter that% 'all( the si3 lotuses 'or ple3uses(. Then 0a#ti is happy
"ith 0hiva in 0ahasrara Kamala '+<<< lotuses seat or pineal gland(. This should be #no"n as the
highest Avastha 'state( and it alone is the giver o& &inal beatitude.
Thus ends the &irst hapter.

CHAPTER - II
+. . shall herea&ter desribe the siene alled Khehari "hih is suh that one "ho #no"s it is &reed
&rom old age and death in this "orld.
/. One "ho is sub$et to the pains o& death% disease and old age should% O sage% on #no"ing this
siene ma#e his mind &irm and pratise Khehari.
1-2. One should regard that person as his guru on earth "ho #no"s Khehari% the destroyer o& old
age and death% both &rom #no"ing the meaning o& boo#s and pratie% and should per&orm it "ith all
his heart. The siene o& Khehari is not easily attainable% as also its pratie.
6. .ts pratie and Melana are not aomplished simultaneously. Those that are bent upon pratie
alone do not get Melana.
7. Only some get the pratie% O ?rahmana% a&ter several births% but Melana is not obtained even
a&ter a hundred births.
8. Having undergone the pratie a&ter several births% some 'solitary( Yogin gets the Melana in some
&uture birth as the result o& his pratie.
:. =hen a Yogin gets this Melana &rom the mouth o& his 4uru% then he obtains the 0iddhis
mentioned in the several boo#s.
;. =hen a man gets this Melana through boo#s and the signi&iane% then he attains the state o&
0hiva &reed &rom all rebirth.
+<. Hven 4urus may not be able to #no" this "ithout boo#s. There&ore this siene is very di&&iult
to master.
++. An aseti should "ander over the earth so long as he &ails to get this siene and "hen this
siene is obtained% then he has got the 0iddhi in his hand 'vi9.% mastered the psyhial po"ers(.
+/. There&ore one should regard as Ahyuta '-ishnu( the person "ho imparts the Melana% as also
him "ho gives out the siene.
+1. He should regard as 0hiva him "ho teahes the pratie. Having got this siene &rom me% you
should not reveal it to others.
+2-+6. There&ore one "ho #no"s this should protet it "ith all his e&&orts 'vi9.% should never give it
out e3ept to persons "ho deserve it(. O ?rahmana% one should go to the plae "here lives the
4uru% "ho is able to teah the divine Yoga and there learn &rom him the siene Khehari and being
then taught "ell by him% should at &irst pratise it are&ully.
+7-+8. ?y means o& this siene% a person "ill attain the 0iddhi o& Khehari. @oining "ith Khehari
0a#ti 'vi9.% Kundalini 0a#ti( by means o& the 'siene( o& Khehari "hih ontains the ?i$a 'seed o&
letter( o& Khehari% one beomes the lord o& Kheharas 'Aevas( and lives al"ays amongst them.
Khehari ?i$a 'seed-letter( is spo#en o& as Agni enirled "ith "ater and as the abode o& Kheharas
'Aevas(.
+:. Through this Yoga% 0iddhi is mastered. The ninth '?i$a( letter o& 0omamsa '0oma or moon part(
should also be pronouned in the reverse order.
+;. Then a letter omposed o& three Amsas o& the &orm o& moon has been desribed! and a&ter that%
the eight letter should be pronouned in the reverse order!
/<. Then onsider it as the supreme and its beginning as the &i&th and this is said to the Kuta 'horns(
o& the several bhinnas 'or parts( o& the moon.
/+-//'a(. This "hih tends to the aomplishment o& all Yogas% should be learnt through the
initiation o& a 4uru. He "ho reites this t"elve times every day% "ill not get even in sleep that Maya
'illusion( "hih is born in his body and "hih is the soure o& all viious deeds.
//'b(-/1. He "ho reites this &ive la#hs o& times "ith very great are I to him the siene o&
Khehari "ill reveal itsel&. All obstales vanish and the Aevas are pleased.
/2. The destrution o& -alipalita 'vi9.% "rin#le and greyness o& hair( "ill ta#e plae "ithout doubt.
Having a5uired this great siene% one should pratise it a&ter"ards.
/6-/7. .& not% O ?rahmana% he "ill su&&er "ithout getting any 0iddhi in the path o& Khehari. .& one
does not get this netar li#e siene in this pratie% he should get it in the beginning o& Melana and
reite it al"ays! 'else( one "ho is "ithout it never gets 0iddhi.
/8. As soon as he gets this siene% he should pratise it! and then the sage "ill soon get the 0iddhi.
/:. Having dra"n out the tongue &rom the root o& the palate% a #no"er o& Atman should lear the
impurity 'o& the tongue( &or seven days aording to the advie o& his 4uru.
/;. He should ta#e a sharp #ni&e "hih is oiled and leaned and "hih resembles the lea& o& the
plant 0nuhi 'CHuphorbia Anti5uorumD( and should ut &or the spae o& a hair 'the Graenum )ingui(.
1<. Having po"dered 0aindhava 'ro#-salt( and *athya 'sea-salt(% he should apply it to the plae. On
the seventh day% he should again ut &or the spae o& a hair.
1+. Thus &or the spae o& si3 months% he should ontinue it al"ays gradually "ith great are. .n si3
months% 0iro-?andha '?andha at the head(% "hih is at the root o& the tongue is destroyed.
1/. Then the Yogin "ho #no"s timely ation should enirle "ith 0iro--astra 'lit. the loth o& the
head( the -a#-.shvari 'the deity presiding over speeh( and should dra" 'it( up.
11. Again by daily dra"ing it up &or si3 months% it omes% O sage% as &ar as the middle o& the
eyebro"s and obli5uely up to the opening o& the ears!
12. Having gradually pratised% it goes to the root o& the hin. Then in three years% it goes up easily
to the end o& the hair 'o& the head(.
16-17. .t goes up obli5uely to 0a#ha and do"n"ards to the "ell o& the throat. .n another three years%
it oupies ?rahmarandhra and stops there "ithout doubt. ,ross"ise it goes up to the top o& the
head and do"n"ards to the "ell o& the throat.
18. 4radually it opens the great adamantine door in the head. The rare siene 'o& Khehari( ?i$a
has been e3plained be&ore.
1:. One should per&orm the si3 Angas 'parts( o& this Mantra by pronouning it in si3 di&&erent
intonations. One should do this in order to attain all the 0iddhis!
1;. And this Karanyasam should be done gradually and not all at a time% sine the body o& one "ho
does it all at one "ill soon deay.
2<-2+'a(. There&ore it should be pratised% O best o& sages% little by little. =hen the tongue goes to
the ?rahmarandhra through the outer path% then one should plae the tongue a&ter moving the bolt o&
?rahma "hih annot be mastered by the Aevas.
2+'b(-2/. On doing this &or three years "ith the point o& &inger% he should ma#e the tongue enter
"ithin! then it enters ?rahmadvara 'or hole(. On entering the ?rahmadvara% one should pratise
Mathana 'hurning( "ell.
21. 0ome intelligent men attain 0iddhi even "ithout Mathana. One "ho is versed in Khehari
Mantra aomplishes it "ithout Mathana.
22-27'a(. ?y doing the @apa and Mathana% one reaps the &ruits soon. ?y onneting a "ire made o&
gold% silver or iron "ith the nostrils by means o& a thread soa#ed in mil#% one should restrain his
breath in his heart and seated in a onvenient posture "ith his eyes onentrated bet"een his
eyebro"s% he should per&orm Mathana slo"ly.
27'b(-28. .n si3 months% the state o& Mathana beomes natural li#e sleep in ,hildren. And it is not
advisable to do Mathana al"ays. .t should be done 'one( only in every month.
2:. A Yogin should not revolve his tongue in the path. A&ter doing this &or t"elve years% 0iddhi is
surely obtained.
2;. Then he sees the "hole universe in his body as not being di&&erent &rom Atman. This path o& the
Urdhva-Kundalini 'higher Kundalini(% O hie& o& Kings% on5uers the maroosm.
Thus ends the seond hapter.

CHAPTER - III
+. Melana-MantraJ Hrim% ?ham% 0am% *am% *ham% 0am% Ksham. The lotus-born '?rahma( saidJ CO
0han#ara% 'among( ne" moon 'the &irst day o& the lunar &ortnight( and &ull moon% "hih is spo#en o&
as its 'mantra>s( sign F
/. .n the &irst day o& lunar &ortnight and during ne" moon and &ull moon 'days(% it should be made
&irm and there is no other "ay 'or time(.
1. A man longs &or an ob$et through passion and is in&atuated "ith passion &or ob$ets. One should
al"ays leave these t"o and see# the Niran$ana 'stainless(.
2-6. He should abandon everything else "hih he thin#s is &avourable to himsel&. Keeping the
Manas in the midst o& 0a#ti and 0a#ti in the midst o& Manas% one should loo# into Manas by means
o& Manas. Then he leaves even the highest stage. Manas alone is the ?indu% the ause o& reation
and preservation.
7. .t is only through Manas that ?indu is produed% li#e the urd &rom mil#. The organs o& Manas is
not that "hih is situated in the middle o& ?andhana.
8-:'a(. ?andhana is there "here 0a#ti is bet"een the sun and moon. Having #no"n 0usumna and its
?heda 'piering( and ma#ing the -ayu go in the middle% one should stand in the seat o& ?indu and
lose the nostrils.
:'b(-;'a(. Having #no"n -ayu% the above-mentioned ?indu and the 0attva-*ra#riti as "ell as the
si3 ,ha#ras% one should enter the 0u#ha-Mandala 'vi9.% the 0ahasrara or pineal gland% the sphere o&
happiness(.
;'b(-++. There are si3 ,ha#ras. Muladhara is in the anus! 0vadhisthana is near the genital organ!
Manipura#a is in the navel! Anahata is in the heart! -isuddhi is at the root o& the ne# and A$na is in
the head 'bet"een the t"o eyebro"s(.
+/. Having #no"n these si3 Mandalas 'spheres(% one should enter the 0u#ha-Mandala 'pineal
gland(% dra"ing up the -ayu and should send it '-ayu( up"ards.
+1. He "ho pratises thus 'the ontrol o&( -ayu beomes one "ith ?rahmanda 'the maroosm(. He
should pratise 'or master( -ayu% ?indu% ,hitta and ,ha#ra.
+2-+6. Yogins attain the netar o& e5uality through 0amadhi alone. @ust as the &ire latent in
'0ari&iial( "ood does not appear "ithout hurning% so the lamp o& "isdom does not arise "ithout
the Abhyasa Yoga 'or pratie o& Yoga(. The &ire plaed in a vessel does not give light outside.

beomes resplendent. =ith the 4uru as the helmsman% one rosses the subtle body and the oean o&
0amsara through the a&&inities o& pratie.
+:'b(-+;. That -a# 'po"er o& speeh( "hih sprouts in *ara% gives &orth t"o leaves in *ashyanti!
buds &orth in Madhyama and blossoms in -ai#hari I that -a# "hih has be&ore been desribed%
reahes the stage o& the absorption o& sound% reversing the above order 'vi9.% beginning "ith
-ai#hari% et.%(.
/<-/+'a(. =hoever thin#s that He "ho is the great lord o& that -a#% "ho is the undi&&erentiated and
"ho is the illuminator o& that -a# is 0el&! "hoever thin#s over thus% is never a&&eted by "ords%
high or lo" 'or good or bad(.
/+'b(-/1'a(. The three 'aspets o& onsiousness(% -ishva% Tai$asa and *ra$na 'in man(% the three
-irat% Hiranyagarbha and .shvara in the universe% the egg o& the universe% the egg o& man and the
seven "orlds I all these in turn are absorbed in *ratyagatman through the absorption o& their
respetive Upadhis 'vehiles(.
/1'b(-/2'a(. The egg being heated by the &ire o& @nana is absorbed "ith its Karana 'ause( into
*aramatman 'Universal 0el&(. Then it beomes one "ith *ara-?rahman.
/2'b(-/6. .t is then neither steadiness nor depth% neither light nor dar#ness% neither desribable nor
distinguishable. 0at '?e-ness( alone remains. One should thin# o& Atman as being "ithin the body
li#e a light in a vessel.
/7. Atman is o& the dimensions o& a thumb% is a light "ithout smo#e and "ithout &orm% is shining
"ithin 'the body( and is undi&&erentiated and immutable.
/8-/:'a(. The -i$nana Atman that d"ells in this body is deluded by Maya during the states o&
"a#ing% dreaming and dreamless sleep! but a&ter many births% o"ing to the e&&et o& good Karma% it
"ishes to attain its o"n state.
/:'b(-/;'a(. =ho am . F Ho" has this stain o& mundane e3istene arued to me F =hat beomes
in the dreamless sleep o& me "ho am engaged in business in the "a#ing and dreaming states F
/;'b(-1<. @ust as a bale o& otton is burnt by &ire% so the ,hidabhasa "hih is the result o& non-
"isdom% is burnt by the '"ise( thoughts li#e the above and by its o"n supreme illumination. The
outer burning 'o& body as done in the "orld( is no burning at all.
1+-1/. =hen the "orldly "isdom is destroyed% *ratyagatman that is in the Aahara 'A#asa or ether
o& the heart( obtains -i$nana% di&&using itsel& every"here and burns in an instant @nanamaya and
Manomaya 'sheaths(. A&ter this% He himsel& shines al"ays "ithin% li#e a light "ithin a vessel.
11. That Muni "ho ontemplates thus till sleep and till death is to be #no"n as a @ivanmu#ta.
Having done "hat ought to be done% he is a &ortunate person.
12. And having given up 'even( the state o& a @ivanmu#ta% he attains -idehamu#ta 'emanipation in
a disembodied state(% a&ter his body "ears o&&. He attains the state% as i& o& moving in the air.
16. Then That alone remains "hih is soundless% touhless% &ormless and deathless% "hih is the
Easa 'essene(% eternal% and odourless% "hih has neither beginning nor end% "hih is greater than
the great and "hih is permanent% stainless and deayless.
Thus ends the third hapter.
