1. Introduction
A stadium is a venue for conducting outdoor activities, musical concerts and other activities and consists
of a field or stage surrounded completely or partly by structures designed to watch the activities. From a
civil engineers point of view the construction of the model will lead to the enhancement of practical
knowledge regarding structures. Stadiums are the mega structures so construction of its model might be
dream to many civil engineers and for us its a dream come true stage.
2. Objective
The prime objective of this engineering project is to construct a model of a football stadium.

The general objectives are;
To gain practical knowledge about construction
To acquire knowledge about design estimation and using the materials to convert
wood and chips into a good looking model
To gain experience on working with a team and set our self on a work environment
3. Scope
The followings are the limitations of our projects
Our model is being made in a limited budget so were making it of wood and sponges,
instead of using steel.
The ground was reduced to a scale of 1:200 but the scale couldnt be appropriate for
the dimensions of the walls, parapets etc.
The model is small and due to the limited time we have the stadium will not have seats
but terrace which acts as the place for the spectators.
The instruments used were simple stationary instruments like paper cutter, scissor and
therefore high preciseness cannot be expected.
4. Materials
The materials that were required for us to conduct the project efficiently are:
Wood and ply
Styrofoam
Hard paper ,mount board
Transparent plastics
Color paints
Iron nails
Diodes
Fevicols and dendrites
Wrapping papers and color papers
Sheet metals

5. Tasks proposed:
5.1 Collection of data
All the data for the field and also the standard requirement for the stadium and its
component had to be acquired.

5.2 Consultation
The supervisors and the instructors were to be approached for the consultation. Some
ideas were also taken from the seniors for better knowledge.
5.3 Field visit:
To gain the basic outlook concept regarding stadium construction and in order to collect more
data and information about the structure the Dasharath Stadium will be visited.
5.4 Scale selection/analysis
Appropriate scale had to be used for the model construction so according to the materials
availability appropriate scale will be chosen and is supposed to be different for different
components
5.5 Material collection:
Wood and Styrofoam were decided to use for the construction of the model and plywood
along with other necessary materials to fix and finish the model.
5.6 Construction of Model
With the purchase of the materials the model will be constructed as per the dimensions and
according to FIFA standard the model will be constructed.
5.7 Finishing the model
The stadium will be given a final touch after the lighting has been installed.it will be
decorated with the help of color paints and computer printed texts.

6. Tasks accomplished
6.1 Collection of data:
The data for the pitch dimensions were collected via internet. Literature review was done
for more information about the dimensions, inclination of the slope and other components
of the stadium.
6.2 Scale selection:
Selection of appropriate scale was a very complicated task to be performed. The scale used for the
pitch couldnt match with the dimensions of the parapet and outer dimensions of the stadium. So the
scale 1:200 was applied only for the pitch dimensions. The parapet was reduced to another scale of
1:40
6.3 Construction of model:
6.3.1 Base selection:
Plywood of thickness 3mm was selected as a base to support the heavy weight of
the stadium.
6.3.2 Dimensioning on the base:
Dimensioning of the pitch was done on the base ply. Then the areas where
supporting walls were to be constructed was marked. The original dimension of a
real football field is given in the figure below. As by the FIFA standards the
football field has length of 9 meters and breadth of 50 meters, hence the field in
the model has been designed in the scale of 1:200 which will reduce the field into
a length of 46 cms and breadth of 22 cms.

6.3.4 Framework of the model:
The supporting walls (length= and height=) were constructed of the plywood of same
thickness as that of the base ply.
6.3.5 Parapet designing:
On the supporting walls of the parapet, the hard paper was made to rest inclined to
the surface with Styrofoam supporting the inclination. The figure below shows the
parapet designing of the model.

6.3.6 Pitch construction:
6

According to the dimensioning of the pitch on the base ply, the hard paper was
attached with the help of dendrite and the paper was painted with two colors of
grasses giving it a realistic texture.

6.3.7 Covering of the parapets:
The parapets were covered with transparent plastics being supported by canopy like
structure. The sheet metal was bend so as to give semi-circular shape to the covering.
Tooth-picks were used as truss to give the beam a good look .
6.3.8 Finishing the model:
Diodes were used for the lighting system and other components like players stand, flag
stand, entry-exit gate etc. were installed. Finally, the stadium was painted with various
colors and computer printed papers were stuck to provide information regarding the
components (Eg: ENTRY GATE at the entry gate). The picture of the stadium is shown

10. Conclusion
The main purpose of the project is to enhance knowledge of practical structural engineering. For a country
like Nepal where football game is being most popular, construction of a well-managed stadium will help a
lot in the development of the football game.Since the stadium will be a multi-purpose stadium,it can be
used for performing various other functions and can be a good source of income as well. Thus in every
sense the construction of the stadium will be fruitful to everyone.
