Projects

These projects are optional but will become a great aid to enhance your lessons by providing opportunities for
students to express themselves more freely. These types of activities are suitable for mixed-ability classes since all
students can participate regardless of differences in skill.
You may either photocopy the Project sheet on page 115 of this Teachers Guide or you may ask students to
bring their own sheets of paper or cardboard. It is advisable to store all the projects in a safe place so that you can
put them together in a binder or folder to be presented to the parents as an end-of-year gift. This, in turn, will
make a visual impact of the hard work you and your students have done throughout the year.
1 My favourite clothes
Instructions for students:
a Paste a photo of yourself on a blank sheet of paper.
b Draw your favourite clothes next to it.
c Draw a speech bubble and write in it your name, your age and what
your favourite clothes are. You may also describe them.
d Display your work.
2 Monuments and interesting places in my city
Instructions for students:
a Find pictures or photos of different monuments in your city. You may
also draw them.
b Find out what their names are and where they are located in your city
and why they are important.
c Stick the pictures on a blank sheet of paper and write some sentences
about the monuments or places of interest that you have chosen.
d Share your work with your partners.
3 My Zoo
Instructions for students:
a Choose three animals that are common to your country.
b Find out what these animals can and cant do and what their main
characteristics are.
c Paste photos or drawings of them on a blank sheet of paper.
d Write some sentences about these animals and give your zoo a name.
e Display your work.
4 My ideal sportsperson
Instructions for students:
a Cut out photos of your favourite sportsperson. Then cut out parts of
their bodies, eg legs, eyes, mouth, etc.
b Rearrange these body parts and make a super sportsperson to your
liking. Paste the pieces on a blank sheet of paper.
c Write his/her name, age, abilities, personality, etc.
d Display your work.

Project sheet

115

To be used for every

project.

This sheet is meant to be used for the projects on page 112. If you
use it, all the projects will be the same size. This will help you keep
them together easily in a binder or folder. Students may design
the cover of the binder to make it more attractive.

1 Sound domino

116

To raise students
phonological
awareness.

You may use this game regularly as it is (with vocabulary up to

Unit 3) or you may add more pieces to make it more complex.
(10 minutes)

2 Match beginnings

You may add more sentences or even invite students to

contribute on their own sentences and work in pairs. This activity
includes material up to Unit 6.
(10 minutes)

3 Spot the

may ask them to draw two other possessions such as a ball or a
wallet. This will add more differences and make the game more
challenging. This activity includes material up to Unit 7.
(20
minutes)

119

To encourage
students to make
descriptions.

Students are supposed to cross out what the alien cant do and

will depend on the students choices. This activity covers all units
but may be adapted to suit more specific needs.
(30 minutes)

5 Play Winners!

120

To practise questionmaking.

For this game, monitoring is crucial as you should check questions

their questions for you to check first. This activity includes all the
language taught in the Students Book.
(20 minutes)

6 The alphabet

121

To revise vocabulary.

It would be advisable for students to paste the photocopy on

cardboard and cut out the letters afterwards to make the game
more durable. The game can be played in pairs or groups. You
should set a time limit (1-2 minutes) for students to form words.
You may increase the difficulty by reducing the number of letters.
This game can be used at the very beginning of the course.
(5-10 minutes)

7 Picture dictation

122

To revise there is/

are and have got,
and describe a messy
