It is 14 May 1948, one day before Israel is backed by the US and begins to be considered a

nation. Here we see the conflicting dialogue between a 17 year old female (Ayala) living in
what is now Israel, and a 17 year old male Palestinian (Marid) living in Israeli territory.

Ayala: One day until my future and the future of my people is decided

Marid: One day until the fate of our nation is sealed

Ayala: Just waiting for tomorrow to live out the possibilities that are in store

Marid: Just waiting for tomorrow with a pit of dread in my stomach,
praying to my god that some one will see our side

Ayala: Praying and believing that this risk is our new hope

Marid: These people, these foreigners just sweep in and decide that this is theirs.
People live here.
MY people live here
and we arent bowing down without a fight.

Ayala: Never again.
Never again will we shrink back in fear.
Never again will we be afraid to fight.
This land will give us strength, and we will use this strength to build ourselves a new opportunity
to prove the capabilities of this people.

Marid: They claim divine right.
They say that because they are people of the book, it is only fair. it is only just.
After all, its what god wants.
But they are too late. We live here.
We have lived here farther back than I can remember. Who are they to uproot us,
dispute us,
file and shuffle and pour in?

Ayala: We are homeless.
We are afraid.
We have been tortured and massacred and persecuted.
We DESERVE a home. A nation. A place to claim.
There is enough room for both Jews and Palestinians to live
in peace and in harmony.
Selfishness and pettiness are blockades.
Let them go and we can live as two as one.

Marid: I will not stand for this.
There is a limit to sympathy
and a limit to how much you can give without getting.
No compromises.
No budging.
This is ours, and Ill be damned if I let anyone take it out from under us.

Marid and Ayala:

God
Around us
Hear our prayer.
Listen to our woes
our insufficient trust and dedication is yours
All we ask in return is your love
Protect us from harm
keep us from pain
as you see fit
we praise your name
and know that whatever we do,
we do not for ourselves, but for you.
We trust that you will not lead us astray
and we dedicate our lives and actions
to your divine wishes
we want only to prove ourselves to you
to show we are worthy
of your ear

into which we whisper our thoughts
and our thanks.

Amen.
