Congratulations on making the great decision to attend Fort Lewis College!

We are excited for you to arrive and that you will be joining us on campus.
The next few pages are packed with helpful information to prepare you for
your arrival. Please take some time to read through this packet and feel free
to contact us with questions.

Check In Information:
Moving In:
The frst thing you will need to do when you arrive on campus is check-in to your new
place of residence. Students will check-in at the residence hall/apartment to which
they are currently assigned. Each residence hall/apartment complex will have signs
posted to direct you to the check-in location. Please make your travel plans to arrive
on campus during your designated check-in times (see below). Unfortunately, the
staf cannot accommodate exceptions. Once you have ofcially checked in, you may
begin moving in your personal belongings.

New and Transfer Students Thursday, August 28th, 10am - 4pm
Returning Residents Saturday, August 30th, 10am - 4pm
or Sunday, August 31st, 1pm - 4pm
Late Arrivals:
If you cannot arrive on campus by the designated times, you must contact the Student Housing
Ofce at (970) 247-7503 by Friday, August 30th at 4pm to let us know when you will be arriving.
All assigned students are expected to be checked in by 4pm on Sunday, September 1st. If you
have not moved in or notifed the Housing Ofce that you will be arriving late, your assignment
may be forfeited and used to house another student.

Features in Each Residence Hall Room:
Draperies or blinds, twin extra long bed (per person),
desk and desk chair (per person)
closet/wardrobe/dresser, trash can
Local phone line with voicemail (bring your own phone
or check one out from staf in your building)
Ethernet ports and wireless internet access
Cable TV access with over 70 channels (suites in
Animas Hall have a TV in their living rooms)

These facilities are carpeted: West Hall, Animas Hall,
Camp/Crofton/Escalante suites, Mears and Centennial
Apartments.
These facilities are NOT carpeted: Cooper Hall, Bader-
Snyder single/suites. Camp/Crofton/Escalante traditional
rooms.
Please feel free to bring your own carpet or throw rug.

Lounges in each building typically include a television,
microwave, couch, chairs, and a pool table.

All restroom facilities in the Residence Halls are main-
tained by custodial staf and are stocked with toilet paper.
All showers have shower curtains. Restrooms in suite-style
accommodations are cleaned once a week. Restrooms in
the traditional halls are cleaned daily.

Apartments come with a refrigerator, oven/stove, dining
table, chairs, loveseat and end table. No microwave,
kitchenware or utensils are provided. Apartment bedrooms
have one bed, desk, chair and dresser/closet per student.
All items must stay within the designated room, apartment
or lounge. The College does not have alternate storage
space available.

What Do I Need To Bring?
Recommended:
Sheets, blankets, comforter, pillows and cases (mattress size = x-long twin, 36 X 80).
Towels, washcloths, and toiletries.
Clothes hangers.
Desk lamp and study materials (no halogen lamps).
Storage containers for food and other items.
Throw rugs, posters, pictures, and items to personalize your room.
Reusable Adhesive Putty (3M brand works well), or double-sided tape to hang posters.
Laundry bag or basket, laundry detergent (liquid is recommended for use in the machines).
Television and co-ax cable (optional).
Computer (optional) and other study aids.
Small appliances (apartment residents only, optional).
Kitchen utensils, dishware, pots, pans (apartment residents only).
Air fan.

Do Not Bring:
Fire hazards - candles, incense, kerosene or halogen lamps, hot plates, toasters, or any appliances
with open coils.
Items of extraordinary value (if you do, we suggest you acquire personal property insurance).
Pets - the only pets allowed on campus are fsh in an aquarium (10 gallons or less).
Weapons of any kind - frearms, knives, bows, explosive devices, paint pellet guns, etc. are strictly
prohibited in campus housing.
Potential damage items - waterbeds, dartboards, etc.

Personalizing Your Space
When it comes to decorating, you can be quite creative. Posters, pictures, plants, chairs and throw rugs
are a few typical items used to personalize rooms. Remember that in attaching items to the walls or
foors, care must be taken not to damage these surfaces (removable hooks, for example, typically chip
the paint.) You may not paint your room. As a fre safety precaution, you may not hang anything from
the ceiling. You will be charged for damages deemed not regular wear and tear at the end of your stay.

Refrigerator/Microwave Information
Only one refrigerator and one microwave are allowed per residence hall room. Microwaves must be one
cubic foot or less and refrigerators four cubic feet or less. Residence halls have a microwave available to
students in their common areas as well. You may want to contact your roommate to coordinate who will
bring what items.


Meet Your Residence Director
Animas Hall (970-247-6538): Meghan Walsh
Meghan is originally from the Chicago area and received her Bachelor's degree from
Western Michigan University. While she was at WMU she was very involved in
residence life and student leadership. Meghan is excited to start her second year as
the Residence Director in Animas Hall. She loves being outdoors and staying active
through yoga and running. The best way to Meghan's heart is through good
humor, chocolate, and cofee.
Camp Hall (970-247-7594): Ben Lutz
Hailing from Northern Michigan, Ben is a graduate from Central Michigan
University with a B.S. in Music and minor in Religion. He served as a Resident
Assistant for 4 years during his time at CMU and spent his time performing with
many of the universitys musical ensembles. Ben enjoys spending his time learning
new things, keeping up with technology, and is always down to grab some cofee.
This is Bens second year as the Camp Hall Residence Director.
Your Residence Director (RD) is a full-time professional staf member who lives in the residence
halls or apartments and is responsible for overseeing the development of each residential
community. The RD and RA staf are an important resource that can assist you in adjusting to living
on campus by planning social and educational events and providing campus information.
Cooper Hall (970-247-7476): Edgar Anaya
Edgar grew up in Mexico City before moving to Miami with his family. He graduated
from Hamline University with his B.A. in Global Studies and Political Science. Edgar
was an Resident Assistant for two years at Hamline, also working with the Campus
Recreation department in his free time. He likes to travel with his family and fanc,
play soccer, eat lots of diferent types of food, and learn new languages. This is
Edgars third year at FLC as the Cooper Hall Residence Director.

Bader/Snyder (970-247-7471): Zabrian Mills
Zabrian is from the flat lands of Indiana. He graduated from Manchester
University (MU) with a B.A. in Psychology focusing on Cognitive Neuroscience and
minors in Sociology and Gerontology. While at MU, he worked as a Resident
Assistant for two years, and an Apartment Coordinator for a year. Zabrian was a
psychology lab assistant for three years and devoted a lot of time to the student
group United Sexualities. Zabrian is always up for a good conversation about nearly
anything, trying new recipes in the kitchen, and loves crafts projects.


Crofton Hall (970-247-7201): Molly Turner
After graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in Anthropology,
Molly spent a year in Miami doing service with the United Way Center for
Financial Stability. While in college, she was a Resident Assistant for three years
and enjoyed working closely with the Alternative Spring Break program. Molly
loves traveling, reading, and spending time exploring the great outdoors.

West Hall (970-247-7477): Xavier Hudson
Xavier received his Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies with Minors in Health and
Psychology from Graceland University. During his tenure as a student he gained
experience working with Residence Life, Student Activities, Admissions,
Intramurals, and he continued to stay continued to stay involved as a professional
in Student Afairs. He enjoys many forms of performance art, staying active,
meeting new people, and learning about diferent cultures. This is Xaviers second
year as the West Hall Residence Director. Stop by and say Hi to Xavier.
Mears and Centennial Apartments (970-247-7610): Jacob Matthews
Jacob was born and raised in Oregon and received his undergrad from Western
Oregon University (WOU). Jacob was an Resident Advisor, Advising RA (ARA),
and on National Residence Hall Honorary his last two years at WOU. Jacob loves
to travel, read, play sports, collect movies, play video/board games, and do
anything that involves the outdoors. This is Jacobs second year in the apartments.

Escalante Hall (970-247-7601): Jenelle Pelletier
Jenelle graduated from Northern Michigan University with a B.S. in Environmental
Conservation and minor in Outdoor Recreation. She served as a Resident Assistant
for two years, and a Community Advisor also for two years during her time and
NMU. Jenelle advocated for womens rights, social equality, and community service
through NMUs Women for Women organization. Jenelle enjoys spending her time
making prize winning sandwiches, watching and playing sports, fshing,
and fnding a new place outdoors.


Below is a list of sample questions you can discuss with your new roommate:
When do you like to study and for how long? Will the TV/music be on or of when you study?
When can we have guests in our room? How long can they stay? What about overnight guests?
What property may be shared? Must permission always be given?
How often will you clean the room or apartment? How will the cleaning be shared? What is
considered clean and what is messy?
What are some of your pet peeves? What is something that really bothers you? How do you deal with
confict when these issues come about?
Think of other questions you would like to ask in order to get to know each other.

Student Involvement Opportunities

The Residents On Campus Association (ROCA) has the exciting job of planning programs and activities
for students on campus. ROCA is also actively involved in representing residential student concerns

Residence Hall Associations (RHAs) are student-governed organizations in each hall and complex that
provide social and educational activities to hall residents. Please contact the Residence Director of your
building for more information about being involved in your RHA.

The Leadership Center serves as the primary resource for information and support for campus
involvement opportunities. The Center provides a wide range of services to help students achieve

Check out the Student Services Fair as part of Orientation on Friday, August 29th. There you can meet
with representatives from many diferent campus organizations and learn early on about involvement
opportunities.



FLC Health Center/Health Insurance/Required Immunizations
The FLC Health Center ofers complete general medical, minor surgical, nursing, frst-aid and emer-
gency care for most illnesses and injuries. The Center is open to all students (full-time, part-time, in-
sured, uninsured). Urgent health care services are available at: Mercy Regional Medical Center (970-
247-4311), Animas Surgical Hospital (970-385-2364) or Durango Urgent Care (970-247-8382). We
strongly encourage all students to have health insurance. Also, make sure you have received your im-
munizations (two MMRs-Measles, Mumps and Rubella-required, and meningococcal disease-
recommended ) and have submitted your records to the FLC Health Center before you begin classes.

Information Technology
It's important to have your computer secure before arriving on campus.
Visit http://www2.fortlewis.edu/it/ResidenceNetwork/PreCertifcation.aspx for instructions on how to
get your computer ready for the Fort Lewis College network.
You may fnd information about getting connected, cable television, and telephone services at http://
www2.fortlewis.edu/it. Look for the Residence Network link on the left.

Laundry
Laundry machines are located in all of the Residence Halls and are in centralized locations in the
Apartments. The current cost is $1.25 to wash and $1.25 to dry. All laundry rooms are equipped with a
card reader, allowing you to use your student ID and SkyCash to pay for laundry services. All machines
accept quarters as well.

Lofts
Loft kits for Camp, Crofton, Escalante, and Cooper are available through private contract with the Loft
-It company, a commercial vendor. Single rooms in Animas Hall are provided with loft kits upon re-
quest as an amenity. Residents in the Baders, Snyders, and West Halls may request compatible loft kits
through their building stafs; these will be provided on an as-available basis. Residents may request
staf assistance with lofting or unlofting beds. Lofts are currently not available for Centennial
Apartments or Mears Apartments. Residents are not permitted to construct lofts or obtain them from
other sources. If lofting is not an option, most resident beds can be bunked. Residents may request
bunkable beds if these were not provided, or staf assistance with bunking and unbunking beds. All
existing furniture must remain present in the assigned room after lofting or bunking.

Interested residents should contact Loft-It at http://www.loftit.com or 1-888-558-2731 to order
delivery. Loft-It will also be present to accept walk-in appointments on Opening Day.
Important Information


Meal Plans
Campus meal plan service will begin with dinner on Thursday, August 28th in the Student Union. All students
assigned to the residence halls have automatically been assigned the 14-meal plan. You may make changes to your
meal plan through your WebOPUS account through September 15th. For all questions regarding meal plans,
please visit the Campus Dining website at http://www.fortlewisdining.com.

Parking Permits
All vehicles parking on campus must have a current parking permit by Monday, September 9th. Passes may be
purchased for $120/year or $60/semester at the Cashiers Ofce or at the FLC Police/Parking Services Department.
Please note: parking in fre lanes, on the grass or sidewalks, and in metered areas while unloading is prohibited;
violators will be ticketed.

Property Insurance
Personal property insurance (often referred to as renters insurance) is highly encouraged. Please check with your
current insurance provider, or visit one of the sites listed below for more information. This information is provid-
ed for your convenience, at the request of the companies concerned. Fort Lewis College does not screen, select,
or endorse any insurance provider.

Student Handbook and the Student Housing Guide
The Handbook and Guide have information and tips for succeeding at Fort Lewis College, including campus re-
sources, and campus housing policies and procedures. You are responsible for the information contained in these
publications, so be sure to read them.

Substance Free Environments
To promote strong communities and academic settings, all residence halls are substance-free environments. The
use of illicit drugs, alcohol and tobacco is strictly prohibited. Cigarette smoking is only allowed outside within
designated smoking areas.

Transportation
The city of Durango ofers public transportation known as the Durango T (Transit), which runs between Fort
Lewis College, downtown, the mall and Mercy Regional Medical Center. You may obtain your T sticker at the
Student Union Information Desk upon arrival to campus. Also, a shuttle operated by Durango Transportation
(970-247-4161) runs between the airport and FLC. The fee for this service varies.
