than NPS 2 shall be socket-welded, but welded, or flanged.
3. Piping gaskets shall be of the self-centering or confined type and shall be resistant to LPG. 4. Threaded connections shall be minimized to the extent practicable and shall be between NPS and NPS 1 , inclusive. 5. Minimum Specifications. The pipe wall thickness shall be equal to or greater than that required by ASME B31.3. 6. Carbon Steel pipe shall have the following minimum wall thicknesses: 7. Nominal pipe size less than NPS 2-Schedule 80. 8. NPS 2-5-Schedule 40 (except for threaded connections, which shall be schedule 80). 9. NPS 6-wall thickness of 0.25 NPS. 10. NPS 8-12-Schedule 20 11. NPS 14 or larger-Schedule 10. 12. Stainless steel piping shall have the following minimum wall thicknesses: a. NPS or less-Schedule 80S. b. NPS 1, 1 , or 2-Schedule 40S c. NPS larger than 2-Schedule 10S 13. Pressure tubing shall be constructed of steel. If tubing will be exposed to a corrosive atmosphere, stainless steel shall be used. 14. Butt-Welding Fittings. Butt-welding fittings shall be made from seamless steel or equivalent material, shall be of at least the same thickness and schedule as the piping, and shall conform to ASME B16.9. 15. Socket-Welding Fittings. Socket-welding fittings 2 in. or smaller in size, such as elbows, tees, and couplings, shall be of forged steel and shall have a working pressure of at least 2000 psi. 16. Packed-sleeve and resilient-sealed couplings shall not be used. 17. Weld-neck flanges are preferred. Socket-weld NPS 2 and smaller are acceptable. If slip-on flanges are used, they shall be welded both inside and outside. 18. Plugs shall be constructed of steel.
5.5 FIRE PROTECTION FOR PROPANE STORAGE AREA a. Fire Protection shall consist of displacing the propane in the vessels, cooling the vessel exteriors with water as well as through the use of Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers where appropriate. All water piping shall be routed parallel to building lines and concealed in all finished areas. Insulation shall be provided where required to control sweating of pipes or to provide protection from freezing. Also Electric Heat Tracing may be utilized on waterlines where insulation alone will not keep pipelines from freezing. 1. A water Deluge system shall be provided over the Propane Storage Tanks. The water application rate shall be 0.1 gallons per minute per square foot. The systems shall be manually remotely activated at a minimum of 50ft away from the tanks. 2. Firewater System for Propane Tanks shall preferably be independent of the domestic water system. However in places where this is inconvenient or impossible to accomplish tie ins to the domestic water system shall be connected near the domestic water source i.e. to the discharge piping between the well pump and water storage tanks. Firewater shall be furnished to the Water Deluge System on the LPG Storage Vessels. W912DQ-13-R-4034
