Therefore, in the Executive MBA programs at the University of St.Gallen, we consciously recruit classes with a very heterogenous prole in terms of nationalities, industries, functions, and education. The average class profiles of our Executive MBA programs are summarized on this page. The diversity of our classes is fueled by and strongly benets from the Swiss business environment. A number of prominent multinational companies call Switzerland home, and Swiss companies are extremely competitive in the global market. Such an economy demands a diverse array of highly competent and skilled individuals. Executive MBA students at the University of St.Gallen are internationally-minded individuals who have experience of working and living in more than one country. They possess extraordinary skills and competencies and are admitted on the basis of their motivation, accomplishments, potential, and interpersonal skills. The HSG IEMBA program allows me to get practical experience in the emerging markets, talks and insights from industry leaders, the political environment and much more closer to reality of business in BRICs. For our new IEMBA HSG, we will continue our tradition of heterogenous class proles. However, all IEMBA HSG students will have something in common: a desire to competently tackle international challenges, to excel in their professional lives, and to further develop their personality and networks. We strongly believe that knowledge empowers, and therefore, we aim to provide our participants with an education that will empower them to strive for even their most ambitious personal and professional goals in a rapidly changing world. During the course of the program, participants will have ample opportunities to strengthen their international networks and to interact with their fellow students in both professional and social settings. A MODERN OASIS OF LEARNING STEEPED IN TRADITION. 9 A PROGRAM DESI GNED FOR EXECUTI VES WHO WORK AND THI NK I NTERNATI ONALLY. 10 10 INTERNATIONAL MODULES 11 High potential executives must think globally, but lessons in the lecture hall cannot replace rst- hand experience. For this reason, our curriculum also includes international modules: 3 out of 8 core modules take place outside of Switzerland. The goal of the international modules is to sharpen and enhance students understanding of the economic environment and business systems of important economic markets, to provide exposure to business practices through eld visits and interactions with managers operating in the respective countries, and to develop skills in assessing the business environment in regions beyond students home countries. The overall focus is on Doing Business, a practice-oriented, hands-on approach to getting to know new business environments and learning how to tackle international business challenges and opportunities. Students learn through company visits, networking events, case studies, and presentations by local experts. GERMANY, UNITED KINGDOM, BRAZIL & ARGENTINA The rst two international modules will take place in Europe, where students will have courses in Germany and the UK. These modules will contain regular courses on general management with faculty from St.Gallen and the international academic partners, but will also have a strong focus on the respective destinations. Germany has the largest population of any EU country and has, in spite of the European crisis, a particularly strong, export-oriented economy. The UK, on the other hand, is known as the nancial epicenter of Europe and historically has an economy with a strong global outreach. Both countries, like Switzerland, are home to many important multinational companies, but also provide a fruitful environment for small and medium sized enterprises as well as startups in the New Economy. In the South American international module, students will go to Brazil and Argentina. This last module of the IEMBA HSG program will focus purely on International Management and will allow students to get to know the economy, the political system and the culture of the respective countries. Characterized by large and well-developed agricultural, mining, manufacturing, and service sectors, Brazils economy outweighs that of other South American countries. Brazil often serves as the Latin American hub for European and US business activities. In comparison, Argentina is an example of a politically and economically fragile country, which nevertheless offers tremendous business opportunities. Thus participants learn how to cope with different cultural, economic and political circumstances and how to successfully do business in these promising markets. 11 SCHOLARSHIPS & CORPORATE SEATS 12 Only applicants with a completed IEMBA HSG application can be considered for an award. While most modules take place in St.Gallen, some modules take students to international destinations. The core courses are spread over eight modules which take place every two to three months over a period of one and a half years. The core courses will provide each student regardless of academic or professional background, with a solid foundation in general management subjects such as nance, strategy, and economics from an international perspective. Core Courses 8 MODULES, 8 DAYS EACH, EVERY 8 WEEKS 14 Students are given the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in areas of special interest through the elective courses. There are several elective courses designed and tailored to complete the curriculum of the IEMBA HSG. Further, the courses are designed for executives to enhance and train their leadership capabilities and qualications. These focal themes of international business, sustainability and leadership development will also be covered in specic core modules in order to complement the general management education of our graduates. The modules outside of Switzerland will also include Doing business in courses, which include guest speakers, company visits and business receptions that will help participants to gain a clearer idea of doing business in the country concerned and to broaden their intercultural and international management competencies. Personal Development Program St.Gallen Core Course Topic 1 and 2 Personal Development Program (PDP) International In order to complete their studies, students will write a Master Thesis. Students may either address a current challenge their rm is facing or develop a business plan.
