Nationally renowned professional guest artists work with
local youth and are significant to the program's success
and impact. Artists from past years include: Savion
Glover, legendary tapper; Joffrey Ballet from Chicago;
Abdel Salaam from Forces of Nature in New York; Jamel
Gaines from Creative Outlet Dance Theatre of Brooklyn;
Bahiyah Sayyed Gaines from Alvin Ailey American
Dance Theater; Napoleon & Tabitha D'umo from Los
Angeles; and Seattle-based choreographers Donald
Byrd, Sonia Dawkins, Pat Graney and Amy O'Neal.
EDUCATION & COMMUNITY PROGRAMS > DANCE THIS
DANCE This is a young artist training and performance program in cross cultural and contemporary
dance. Each year DANCE This brings together more than 200 young artists (ages 13-22) from diverse
communities and backgrounds for intensive dance training, collaboration and performances that share
diverse cultures through the art of dance.
DANCE This is more than a performance! It is a multi-faceted program that includes four individual
components:
The DANCE This Summer Training Intensive (two weeks, Seattle-based)
The DANCE This Youth Matinee and Public Performance (summer, The Paramount Theatre)
The DANCE This CAMP (one week, state-wide at Centrum, Port Townsend, WA)
Global Dance Party (school group matinee and public performance, available for touring
In addition to the summer, STG provides year round opportunities to participate in master classes and
attend performances at The Paramount and Moore Theatres.
DANCE This Summer Training Intensive
June 21 - July 2, 2010
Pacific Northwest Ballet, The Phelps Center (Seattle Center)
The DANCE This Summer Training Intensive is an opportunity for young dancers (ages
13-21) at all levels to immerse themselves in dance over the course of two weeks. Students
will be exposed to a wide range of dance styles and techniques in a supportive, yet
challenging atmosphere. Instruction includes Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre,
Choreography, Ballroom/Salsa, African, Conditioning & special workshops.

The Paramount Theatre
DANCE This brings together teen performers from diverse communities for collaboration and
to share their culture through the art of dance. The performance features young local
dancers in collaboration with professional artists performing cross cultural dancesboth
traditionally rooted and contemporary in form.
