Lurgi, Casale join tech to double ammonia production

LONDON (CNI)--Lurgi and Ammonia (/chemicals/ammonia/) Casale have co-developed a technology that draws on both of their
established processes to enable a doubling in ammonia output compared to conventional systems.
In a statement, the German engineering Lurgi said the combined processes could enable single line processes in plant be built
with production capacities up to 1.4m tonne/year.
The Megammonia process could deliver output of 4000 tonne/day of ammonia compared to 2000 tonne/day by conventional
systems, the companies said.
The new system draws upon Lurgi's oxygen-based gas (/energy/gas/) production and purication technologies and combines it
with Swiss rm Casale's ammonia synthesis process and axial-radial reactors.
