BladeSystem, connectivity, high-availability, integration, and
management considerations for building comprehensive server
solution designs
you can architect solutions that bring reliable intelligence to the
core of a converged infrastructure, optimizing application
performance, proactively securing uptime and providing insight
into every aspect of an IT infrastructure

This certification exam is designed for candidates with on the job
experience. The associated training course, which usually include labs,
provide a foundation, but you are expected to have experience in the real
world as well.

Who should take this exam?

All candidates for HP ASE Server Solutions Architect V8 certification
must take the Architecting HP Server Solutions (HP0-S36) exam.

Although anyone can take the exam, most successful candidates have
one year experience designing and planning HP ProLiant Server or HP
Integrity Server solutions. It is also expected that you will have industry-
standard server technology knowledge from training, hands-on
experience or participation in other technical events. This guide describes
some of these ways and provides references to materials for further
preparation.

Tips for taking this exam
This exam assesses whether you have the knowledge and skills that a Server Architect requires on the job. Therefore, many test
items present a scenario, which outlines a particular environment or problem. You may also need to use exhibits to complete the
test items successfully.

Take the time to read the entire question and consider all of the options carefully before you answer. If the question indicates that
it features an exhibit, study the exhibit and reread the question. Make sure to select the answer that correctly responds to the
question that is asked, not simply an answer that includes some correct information.

If the question asks for more than one answer, remember to select each correct answer. You will not receive partial credit for a
partially correct answer.

Sample questions
Use the following questions to help assess whether you are ready to take the exam. Answers to these sample questions are
provided at the end of this guide.

Use the following questions to help to assess whether you are ready to take the exam. An appendix at the end of this
guide provides answers and explanations.
1. You are working on an infrastructure project for a multisite company. The customer recently
experienced downtime at the central site and is considering a disaster recovery plan for key business
systems that need to be running in a 30 minute window. The customer does not like sharing equipment
among departments, because of concerns about the security of sensitive company information.

Which option best fits these requirements?
o (a) Outsource processing in a virtualized infrastructure.
o (b) Virtualize key business systems on one server at the remote site.
(c) Duplicate servers for key business systems at the remote site.
o (d) Back up key business systems daily to be restored as needed at the remote site.
2. Which tool can an HP partner use to create a validated complex solutions configuration including all HP
servers, storage, networking, software, and services?
(a) HP Sales Builder for Windows
o (b) HP Systems Selling Guide
o (c) HP Enterprise Configurator
o (d) HP Active Answers
3. A customer's business is critical and requires short repair time for hardware issues and software support as
well as firmware revision and update.

Which HP Service Carepack offering satisfies these requirements? (Select two.)

(b) HP Power Assistant
(c) N+N Redundant AC power configuration
(d) iLO Select license
(e) Redundant Onboard Administrator (OA)

ESXi?
o (a) Download the latest deployment tool.
o (b) Shut down all primary hosts.
(c) Evacuate the VM guest to an alternate host.
o (d) Update the OA with the SmartStart Update Firmware DVD ISO.

using HP 10000 G2 series racks. There is a mix of Blade c7000 enclosures, ProLiant Gen8 servers,
storage arrays, and back-up devices. Each of the departments needs to be charged for the power
usage of their racks. What needs to be advised to this customer?
o (a) install two iPDUs in each rack and use the web interface of the iPDU to record the power usage per iPDU
per month.
o (b) install two HP modular PDUs per rack and use HP Insight Control to report the power consumption
o (c) use HP modular PDU to monitor the power usage per rack
o (d) use the iLO to read out the power use of each ProLiant server and Blade server
(e) install two iPDUs in each rack and use HP Insight Control to report the power consumption
