WARNING Risk of operator injury if:
r All doors, covers and panels are not closed and secured in place prior to and during instrument operation.
r The integrity of safety interlocks and sensors is compromised.
r Instrument alarms and error messages are not acknowledged and acted upon.
r You contact moving parts.
r You mishandle broken parts.
r Doors, covers and panels are not opened, closed, removed and/or replaced with care.
r Improper tools are used for troubleshooting.
To avoid injury:
r Keep doors, covers and panels closed and secured in place while the instrument is in use.
r Take full advantage of the safety features of the instrument. Do not defeat safety interlocks and sensors.
r Acknowledge and act upon instrument alarms and error messages.
r Keep away from moving parts.
r Report any broken parts to your Beckman Coulter Representative.
r Open/remove and close/replace doors, covers and panels with care.
r Use the proper tools when troubleshooting.
CAUTION System integrity might be compromised and operational failures might occur if:
r This equipment is used in a manner other than specified. Operate the instrument as instructed in the Product Manuals.
r You introduce software that is not authorized by Beckman Coulter into your computer. Only operate your systems
computer with software authorized by Beckman Coulter.
r You install software that is not an original copyrighted version. Only use software that is an original copyrighted
version to prevent virus contamination.
IMPORTANT If you purchased this product from anyone other than Beckman Coulter or an authorized Beckman Coulter
distributor, and, if it is not presently under a Beckman Coulter service maintenance agreement, Beckman Coulter cannot

CONTROL PANEL INDICATOR LIGHTS
Power
Green on when power is supplied to printer.
Release
Green on when printer feed rollers are open so
you can insert paper. Insert and remove paper
only when green.
Paper Out
Red on when printer is out of paper.
CONTROL PANEL KEYS
Forward
Press to load paper. You must press the RELEASE
key first.
Reverse
Press once to reverse feed paper one line at a time
or hold down to reverse paper continuously.
Release
Press to insert or remove paper.
Reset
Press to reset printer to its default values.
Resetting deletes any data remaining in the printer
buffer. Use a pointed instrument, such as the tip
of a pen, to press this switch.

Unpack the ticket printer. The box should
include
1. EPSON TM-290P slip printer
2. standard Centronics data cable
3. line cord for power supply
4. ribbon ink cassette
5. 24-V printer power supply

Remove all packing materials from the printer
including the protective damper between the
printer cover and the document table.

Locate the Dipswitch SW 1 on the bottom of
the printer sled. Switch positions 2, 3 and 4
should be ON, the rest OFF.

Remove the printer cover.

Press the RELEASE key.
Unplug the power cord.

Turn the knob in the direction of arrow on
ribbon cassette to tighten ribbon.

Turn the knob while feeding the ribbon into
place. Ensure that the ribbon fits between the
printhead and ribbon guide.

Hold the ribbon cassette by its handle and
push firmly into position.

Reinstall the printer cover.

Plug in the power cord.

Plug the Power Supply directly into the out-
let. Do not use an extension cord.

Install the ribbon cassette correctly. (See
Loading the Ribbon Cassette.)

Press the RELEASE key.

Insert a ticket.

Unplug power to the printer.

Hold down the FORWARD key.

Plug in the power cord.

Press the RESET key.

Check the self-test printout to be sure that all
the characters print legibly.
