As I write this letter, we are about to leave to visit family in
Arkansas. We’ll join others heading to Little Rock from
Texas, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania to share what’s been
happening in our lives. And of course, along with family
come good food, lots of laughter … and an opportunity to
reflect on God’s blessings in our lives.
I really love the Thanksgiving-Christmas holiday season. It’s
one time of the year when we get to major on all the good
stuff at once: food, family, friends … and fun stuff. And as a
church family, the same thing is true for us.
As the apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:19-22 – “So
then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are
fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household,
having been built on the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in
whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing
into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being
built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.” (NASU)
By the time you read this letter, we will have already shared
our annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Tuesday, November 24.
You know it was good! On Sunday, November 29 we will
have celebrated the beginning of the Christmas Season with
Hanging of the Green … and we will have crowned a winner
in the Gingerbread Creations Contest and Fellowship. But
there is still more to come:

DECEMBER EVENTS
Children’s Choirs Christmas Music – The children’s
choirs will present their Christmas music on Sunday
evening, December 13, at 6:00 p.m. I encourage you to
come and support our children as they lead us in
worship and praise on this night.
Glorious Impossible – The Sanctuary Choir will present
the musical, “Glorious Impossible” on Sunday,
December 20, at 4:00 p.m. Please notice that the time is
earlier than usual. We encourage you to invite your
friends from other churches to attend.
COMMUNITY WORSHIP EVENT
Christmas Bells – The Marshall County Arts
Commission is sponsoring this program of a variety of
music on Sunday, December 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the
Shadowen Performing Arts Center at the high school.
Several groups will be singing, including a 60+ choir
from Marshall County. The program is free to the public,
so come on out and bring your friends and family and
enjoy this celebration of the birth of Christ, our Lord.
THE SEASON OF ADVENT
The season of Advent begins four Sundays prior to
Christmas Eve, so we began this season with The
Hanging of the Green on Sunday, November 29. Each
Sunday morning service, we will light the candles on the
Advent Wreath to represent HOPE, JOY, PEACE, AND
LOVE. Each time we light one of the candles, it reminds
us to focus on the Christ Child and His love for us. We
come with expectancy during this season of joy. I
encourage you to avail yourself to every opportunity that
comes your way during this season. May God’s peace
and joy be with you and your family during this
Christmas season. May the peace of Christ reign
supreme in your heart this Christmas.
CLINICAL PASTORAL EDUCATION NEWS
I want to thank you, again, for allowing me the
opportunity to take CPE training at Western Baptist
Hospital. I have bumped into some of you at the hospital
from time to time. By the time December is almost over,
I will have completed three units (16 weeks each) of
CPE. I am now in my level 2 training. I can hardly
believe that time has marched on this quickly! I am
discovering that there is much more to chaplaincy than
meets the eye. The training is very beneficial and I am
learning much about myself and how people deal with
crises in their lives. Unit 4 will begin in January of 2010
and will conclude in late April or early May.

willing to give sacrificially so those called to
invest their lives sharing the Gospel can go!
