c) Tensile test was conducted on a steel specimen of diameter 12.5mm
& gauge length 50mm. The loads at lower & upper yield points
were 4500kg & 4600kg respectively. The maximum & fracture loads
were 7500kg & 5000kg respectively. The gauge length after fracture
was 62.5mm. The diameter at fracture was found to be 8mm.

a) The density of Aluminium is 2.7g/cm3 and that of Al2O3 is about


4g/cm3. Describe the characteristics of the aluminium oxide film.
Compare with the oxide film that form on tungsten (W). The
density of tungsten is 19.254g/cm3.and that of WO3 is 7.3g/cm3.

Find out the nature of film when magnesium oxidizes to magnesium
oxide (Mg MgO):
Given: Molecular weight of MgO = 40.3gm
Density of MgO = 3.65gm/cm3
Atomic weight of Mg = 24.3 gm
Density of Mg = 1.74gm/cm3
