Introduction
In India particularly after independence the task of rural
development has been given a place of priority in five-year plans and the
growing ineuality between the rich and poor in rural areas has brought
about the urgency to development. It has been the constant endeavour! of
the government to develop the rural areas and accordingly various
schemes have been formulated from time to time for this purpose. "ut
result of those schemes varies from time to time from place to place and
in various sectors. "ut some e#periment schemes have lost their
continuity.
It is now commonly conceded that the most of the poverty
alleviation programmes could not reduce the incidence of poverty
substantially for the variety of reasons wrong selection of beneficiaries$
leakages corruptions and malpractices$ absence of forward and backward
linkages in the pro%ect and inadeuacy in delivery and monitoring of
credit are few factors identified by the agricultural credit review
committee
"ut rural development pro%ect are have to be free from above said
awful factors. &his study is going on such a great rural development
programme. 'hri (shetra )harmasthala *ural )evelopment +or%ect
which was lunched by )harmadhikari )r. ). ,eerendra -eggade.

&he '()*)+ took up women empowerment programmes$
awareness against addictions$ technology transfer programmes for
improving the farming practices among weaker sections.
/ith the passage of time '()*)+ began to play role in transfer of
technology$ providing the infrastructure$ providing finance through micro
credit. "esides this$ the pro%ect concentrated on the empowerment of
rural women and hence began 01nanavikasa +rogramme0. In response to
the social needs of the area the '()*)+ innovated into activities like
1ana%agruthi$ 2ommunity )evelopment$ 'iri etc.$
3 village level worker known as 0'evaniratha0$ approached the
stakeholder families$ sat with them to prepare a five-year development
plan and assisted them to implement the same. &he )harmasthala temple
has given the reuired material support like euipments$ seed material in
the form of charity.
4arge uantities of rice were distributed during the initial decades
as a compensation for the families while they worked in their own lands.
the concept of 05ood for /ork0 was implemented by '()*)+$ with a
view to develop the lands.

&he present study is empirical in nature and was studied using
primary and secondary data.
&his study has been taken for the 12 sample villages of the
'hikaripur were selected on random basis from which 9: respondents
were selected and these all respondents are members of '()*)+

&o collect the primary data relating to relevant beneficiaries three
method of survey are used.

officers and collect the details of beneficiaries and programmes of pro%ect

managers$ supervisors$ and field officers. )ata is also collected from the
members of the self-help groups benefited from '.(.).*.).+.

&his study also based on the secondary data "esides the primary
data$ data is collected from the secondary sources like books$ records
and periodicals maintained in the organisation
&he data has been taken from 'hikaripur branch office for the
period of two financial years and the data collected from various
published issue of '()*)+ and web sights pro%ect scheme... =ost of the
secondary materials are collected from officials of '.(.).*.).+.

&he scope of this pro%ect is confined only 'hikaripur taluk only.
&he study was conducted to know the performance of S$ri *!$et$ra
D$arma!t$a%a 0ramab$irud$i 5ojana in the development of rural
areas. &he study was intended to know the developmental activities
undertaken in rural areas.

&he data collected from primary sources is analysed and
interpreted systematically in the form of statements $ charts$
;raphs and tables. &he diagrams are in the form of bar and pie charts.

*espondent beneficiaries were do not co-ordinate to collect
information. &hey made hesitation to give details about them. &he
officers of pro%ect were also did not give the information in right time due
to heavy woks stress of them.

)harmasthala is a famous -indu religious shrine
of 'outh India with about 8:: years of
-istory. &he presiding deity of )harmasthala is
4ord =an%unatha 'wamy reincarnation of 4ord
'hiva. &he temple is managed by the -eggades
who is considered to be the speaking =an%unatha.
&he -eggade position a hereditary one$ is being passed on from
generation to generation. &he present -eggade$ )r. ). ,eerendra
-eggade is the 21st in the lineage.
)harmasthala is known for religious harmony yet with a lot of
"hakthi and religious fervor. 3lthough the deity is 'hiva$ the +riests are
,aishnavaites. &he trustee of the temple belongs to 1ain community.
=any festivals in )harmasthala attract tourists and faithfuls$ from all
over the country. )harmasthala is also home for 2handranatha 'wamy
"asadi a place of worship for 1ains.
&he festivals of )harmasthala have a tinge of religion$ bhakthi$
social value$ cultural ethos$ rituals. 3nnadana and 3bhayadhana are two
of the ma%or functions ordained to be performed by the -eggades as the
trustee of the temple.
)r. -eggade feels that even charity should be put to good use and
must yield results. -e has therefore setup several institutions to promote
the philosophy of directed charity. &he visionary in )r. ). ,eerendra
-eggade has conceived several pro%ects to touch the finer aspects of

3nother feature of the pragathi bandhu '-; is the mi#ed cropping
practiced by the members of the group. &his helps them to get steady
income on a daily basis$ which helps them to meet their weekly loan
repayment obligation. &he members borrow money for their farming

and farm labour work done by these farmers in the neighbourhood large

farming and other purposes.

It creates federal activities among the self-help groups of a rural
area. *ural self-help groups are stepping stone to set-up the &aluk level
self-help groups as a federal structure. &he &aluk self-help groups look
after the activities of rural self-help groups and to fulfil the basic
necessaries of rural economy through self-help groups in a proper manner
and also fulfil the basic necessities of the members of the groups to
uplift the economic status.
5ederation played an important role in the activities of providing
loans and advances$ repayment and transaction etc. &he sub committee
of the federation recommended to the organisation about needs
Jloans and advancesK of local self-help groups and also it helps
repayment of debt services of the local self-help groups.

Gnder this plan organisation provides financial help for the
members who are economically poor. /hich provides income to fulfil
basic needs like education$ shelter$ sanitation$ gobar plants. &he savings

few suggestions based on survey findings and observations are given

banks as its motto is rural development through entrepreneurship$
the rate of interest on loans should be less than or atleast eual to that
of commercial banks interest.

sanctioned for the rural development in each area.

taluk. It has been achieved with the study of financial assistance

certain e#tent in developing certain rural areas in 'hikaripura taluk . It
has not only provided entrepreneurial opportunities to the people but
also has undertaken many activities for the development of rural areas. It
has provided many effective training and assistance to the people in
developing entrepreneurial skills among them.
