STATEMENT OF MOTIVATION

As a little child I proposed a philosophy that was to guide me in all my endeavors. My personal
philosophy has been that where determination and diligence prevail, no quantum of resistance can
subdue it. I have always enjoyed investing my resources including energy, time, money, talents etc.
towards fulfilling something that is worthwhile. Though I was not a consistent and ardent topper in my
class during my basic and high school days, I was however, an academic force to reckon with. A survey
of my academic performance from the basic school to the bachelor's level shows gradual and sustained
improvements.
Materials Engineering is a field of study that looks at the relationship between structure and properties
of a material and also the use of such information to design or engineer materials to possess predefined
properties. My motivation to study Materials Science and Engineering was the interdisciplinary nature
of the profession.
The interdisciplinary nature is the driving force in taking a bold step to pursue a graduate program in
oil and gas engineering in your reputable institution. My country, recently became an oil producing
company and this call for an appreciable burgeon in the labour force to sustain this economic
stabilizing industry. A thorough search for best institutions in oil and gas programs in the United
Kingdom revealed Heriot-Watt, Aberdeen University as one of the major contenders.
It also came to my realization that Aberdeen is the Oil and Gas Capital of Europe and is the office
location for many of the oil companies that serve the industry. Besides the University's alumni play a
leading role in the oil and gas and energy industries. Thus making these universities a hub for practical
and up to date knowledge to be in the oil is gas field.
I acquired research experiences through the industrial attachments and field trips that I experienced
during my undergraduate training. I worked with Ghana Architectural and engineering services I learnt
the skills of accuracy related to testing and analysis of engineering materials. Additionally, I worked
with Ghana Atomic Energy where I gained practical experience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
level I procedures in Magnetic Particle Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, Radiography and Penetrant Testing
and the Council for Scientific and industrial Research Center (CSIR), Institute of Industrial Research
(IIR). After school, I also had an internship with Millennium Development Authority (MiDA
Some project that I have conducted include: Production of hydrated Alumina from bauxite.
I am very convinced that I deserve the privilege to considered for scholarship because coupled with my
research experiences that I have underscored in the earlier paragraph I am also a self motivated,
energetic, ambitious, clear-headed, good team player, focus and disciplined and well composed young
man. These qualities I have demonstrated through out my academic and social life.
