woring groups, i!e! industry
specialists, technologists, users,
consumers, etc!

Performance
Results on performance
from initial certification
Energy Performance
significant energy uses
and other outputs of the
energy review;
the relevant variables
related to significant
energy uses;
EnPIs;
the effectiveness of the
action plans in achieving
objectives and targets;
evaluation of actual versus

Evaluation:
Is Energy Performance Improving?
What does the data
from the
organization
demonstrate?
How are
adjustments made
based on the data?
Are the planned
improvements
achieved?

Competency
Competencies are what
people need to be
successful in their job.
Auditors need
Competencies in two
areas :
Management systems
and
Energy performance
audit
ISO 50003 has defined
additional
competencies to
address energy
performance.
This will represent a
new set of
competencies for the
Certification Bodies
Implementing
organizations also
need these two
competencies

WHY do we need ISO 50003?
Continual Improvement of
the EnMS
Top Management
Management review
Objectives, targets and
action plans
Competency
Internal audit
Corrective and
preventive action

Accreditation
The accreditation
process helps to
ensure
effectiveness of:
The EnMS
The CBs processes
The validity
performance for
international
recognition

What Additional Requirements are
in ISO 50003?
audit planning, the auditing process,
certification decisions
audit reporting
duration of audits
multi-site sampling
competence requirements for personnel
involved in the certification process
Global Certifications

Certification Decision
Surveillance
Confirm scope and boundaries
Review information or evidence to confirm that
continued improvement of energy performance can
be demonstrated
Recertification
Same scope as the stage 2 certification audit
A new stage 1 may be required
Confirmation of energy performance improvement is
required for granting the recertification
Certification or Recertification decision
Energy performance improvement required
Energy Performance
Before making a
Certification decision
energy performance
improvement required
An audit report
includes a statement
of achievement of
continual improvement
of energy performance
with audit evidence to
support the statement
Is certification a good
tool to support
continuous
improvement of energy
performance in EnMS?
10
Audit Duration
Four factors are used
to determine minimum
audit duration
Energy sources
Significant energy
uses (SEU)
Energy consumption
EnMS effective
personnel
Multisite Audits
consistent criteria for
establishing
objectives and targets
and site action plans;
centralized processes
for evaluating
applicability and
effectiveness of
action plans and
EnPIs, and
energy performance
data is centrally
aggregated and to
show organization
wide energy
performance, as
appropriate.
Energy performance
requirements:
consistent energy
planning process;
consistent criteria
determining and
adjusting baselines,
relevant variables
and energy
performance
indicators(EnPIs);

GSEP ISO 50001 Auditor/ Lead Auditor
Activity
Goal: Establish a consensus-based, international
certification scheme will support greater consistency in
ISO 50001 certification outcomes
The proposed ISO 50001 Auditor and Lead Auditor
certification schemes will:
Address the lack of skilled and trained personnel
available to conduct ISO 50001 certification audits
Increase the impact of ISO 50001
Help demonstrate the value of EnMS business
practices to industrial, commercial, and public sector
organizations.
