Oleg Deripaska was born on 2 January 1968 in the city of Dzerzhinsk in Russias Nizhny

Novgorod region.

He grew up and attended school in the Krasnodar Region of southern Russia, close to
the Black Sea. At school, he focused on maths and science, eventually winning a place
at Moscow State University to study nuclear physics.

From 1986 to 1988 Oleg Deripaska served in the Soviet Armys strategic missile forces,
where he was posted to the Trans-Baikal area.

In 1993 he graduated with honors from Moscow State Universitys Physics Department
and, three years later, received a Master's degree from Moscows Plekhanov Academy
of Economics.

Shortly after receiving his first degree, Oleg Deripaska began trading commodities. As
the business prospered, he built up a stake in the Sayanogorsk Aluminium Smelter in
Eastern Siberia, eventually becoming its Director-General in 1994.

Under his leadership, the fortunes of the smelter - the third largest in Russia which
had not prospered as the USSR fell were turned around and it became an industry
leader for labour safety, environmental standards, product quality, technological
development and profitability. Its success continued with production doubling between
1995 and 2005.

In 1997, Mr Deripaska created Russias first vertically integrated company Siberian
Aluminium (in 2001 renamed Basic Element) that later incorporated a number of
Russias leading aluminium production facilities. In 2000, Siberian Aluminium became
one of the worlds top ten aluminium producers.

In 2000, Russian Aluminium (RUSAL) was set up by bringing together the aluminium
smelters and alumina refineries owned and operated by Mr Deripaskas companies and
those run by the major Russian oil company Sibneft.

In 2007 RUSAL joined with SUAL Group, another of the worlds major aluminium
producers, and Glencore International AG, a Swiss natural resources group, to
form United Company RUSAL. UC RUSAL (HKEX 0486, EURONEXT
RUSAL/RUAL) is now the worlds largest producer of aluminium and alumina. It is a key
part of Basic Element - one of the Russia's largest and most dynamic diversified
business groups which also includes Russias second largest automaker GAZ Group,
Russias largest privately held power company EuroSibEnergo and one of Russias
largest construction holdings Glavstroy.

Oleg Deripaska is married to Polina Deripaska who is Chairman of the Board of
Directors for the Forward Media Group. Oleg and Polina live in Moscow with two
