Asset Management Consulting
Asset Management Policy Framework
We work with our customers to prepare robust Asset Management
Policy (AMP) Framework for their assets. This allows stakeholders
identify asset performance targets, business focus areas, forecast
levels of maintenance expenditure & capital investment planned to
manage their asset base while ensuring that opportunities for best
practices are maximized and applied to maintenance, asset renewals,
risk management & contingency planning.

Advanced Diagnostic Testing
Severon provides a specialist high voltage diagnostic testing services. Our test engineers utilise state of the art test
equipment to quickly and accurately establish the condition of your HV assets. The range of services we provide
along with their typical application is outlined below:
Sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA)
SFRA is used to establish a benchmark of the condition of power
transformers, comparison of results enables the detection of both
mechanical and electrical changes within the core, windings and an-
cillaries.
g
The technique is proven to detect problems such as:
c
Winding deformation - axial & radial
c
Displacements between windings
c
Partial winding collapse
c
Shorted or Open turns
c
Faulty grounding of core or screens
c
Core movement
c
Broken clamping structures
c
Problematic internal connections.
c
Testing of electrical switchboards
Applications: Power transformers
Partial Discharge (PD) test
Partial Discharge is an electrical discharge that occurs across a por-
tion of the insulation between two conducting electrodes, without
bridging the gap between them. Partial discharges can occur in voids
in solid insulation (paper, polymer), gas bubbles in liquid insulation or
around an electrode in a gas (corona).
PD testing is particularly important where HV plant has a high critical-
ity. This may be due to its age, historical failures or the consequences
of its failure (such as its position in the network).
Applications: Power transformers, current and voltage transformers,
bushings, generators, motors, switchgear.
Dielectric Loss Angle (DLA) test
The DLA test, also known as DDF, Doble, Power factor test, is used to
determine the condition of an insulation medium of a high voltage
apparatus.
Applications: Power transformers, current & voltage transformers,
bushings, generators, motors and surge arrestors.
Winding Resistance test
Transformers are subject to various electrical & mechanical stresses.
Problems or faults occur due to poor design, assembly, handling,
poor environments, overloading or poor maintenance. Measuring
the resistance of the windings assures continuity of the winding and
hence the condition of the transformer.
Applications: transformers, current and voltage transformers, bush-
ings, generators, motors, switchgear (SF6).
Insulation Resistance (IR) test
A mega-ohmmeter (insulation resistance tester) is used to measure
the ohmic value of an insulator under an applied direct voltage of
great stability. The insulation resistance test is a non-destructive test
and can detect problems in the insulation system.
Applications: transformers, current and voltage transformers,bush-
ings, generators, motors, switchgear.
Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR) test
Transformer turns ratio measurements are made with specialised test
instruments that use detailed connection and operating instructions.
The measured turns are expected to be within 0.5% of the calculated
values of the turns ratio.
Winding damage including shorted and opened turns causes the
measured ratio to deviate from the 0.5% mark.
Applications: transformers, current and voltage transformers
Very Low Frequency (VLF) test
The VLF test focuses on high voltage cables but can also be applied
to rotating machinery, transformers, arrestors and insulators. The VLF
high potential test is the only high potential test approved for XLPE
cables. The result of the test provides an overall assessment of the
cables insulation system.
Applications: transformers, current and voltage transformers,
bushings, generators, motors, switchgear
