2014 Peterborough Folk Festival Program 2014 Peterborough Folk Festival Program 2 3
Welcome
2014 sponsors
There is something about Peterborough that makes it a great place
for music. Maybe its in the scent of Quaker Oats lingering on the
breeze. Maybe its something lurking in the cool, silvery waters of
the Otonabee River. Maybe there has always been a magic here, at
Nogojiwanong, the place at the end of the rapids. Who knows what it
is, but I know its here.
Its our anniversary and Id like to thank-you for being a part of it.
PFF has been lucky enough to present music, arts and culture in
the heart of the Kawarthas for twenty-five years, but we could not
have done it without the generous support of our sponsors, all of the
artists who have performed over the years, and most importantly the
community of Peterborough.
For this years festival, I wanted to keep with our traditional
programming and add new, inclusive and community building
initiatives to reflect where PFF is headed for the next twenty-five
years. Weve have a series of Pop-Up Shows on Friday August
22 from 5:30-8pm featuring festival artists in local, downtown
businesses. We also have a series of DIY Scavenger Hunt Secret
Shows on Saturday August 23 where fans must solve the riddle to
find the site of five secret, intimate musical experiences throughout
Nicholls Oval Park. Weve also added a number of afordable club
shows in Downtown Peterborough: Friday Night Afer Kick-Of with
The Double Cuts at the Red Dog and Saturday Night Afer PFF Club
Crawl with three shows happening at the Gordon Best Theatre,
The Red Garnet and The Pigs Ear Tavern. Weve also expanded
the festival line-up and added music to our Sunday Festival in
Millennium Park which runs from 12-6pm on Sunday August 24.
The line-up this year represents some of the best music in Canada,
both from our community of Peterborough and from afar. Were
proud to celebrate our talented local musicians and were even
more proud to bring National and International touring acts to our
community and show them what we have to ofer.
As you know, PFF is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit arts
organization. To keep our festival afordable, we received support
from The Department of Canadian Heritage, The City of Peterborough,
The Ontario Arts Council and a number of other sponsors and partner
organizations. If you like what you see at PFF, please consider making
a donation to the festival. Help keep the spirit of the Peterborough
Folk Festival alive for another twenty-five years.
Enjoy the Festival,

EMERGING ARTIST AWARD
sOur 2014 Emerging Artists - The Lonely Parade
The Lonely Parade are one of Peterboroughs most exciting acts.
Charlotte Dempsey, Augusta Veno and Anwyn Climenhage got their
start through Rock Camp for Girls Peterborough and have been
making waves in the local music scene ever since. They released
their first album Sheer Luxury in 2014. With punk rock roots, an ear
for catchy melodies and a knack for inventive lyrics, were proud to
call The Lonely Parade our 2014 Emerging Artists.
The PFF believes in investing in young performers, and to that end,
created an annual award in 2001 to recognize emerging local talent
that we think deserves the attention and support of the community.
Judging by the careers of the past recipients, the Emerging Artist
Award is a step on the road to a life-long career in music.
Recipients of this award are given showcase spots on the festival
weekend, a guaranteed spot on the festival main stage the following
year, and a trip to the Folk Music Ontario (formerly Ontario Council of
Folk Festivals) annual conference in October.
The award is granted to an artist by the Artistic Director based on
assessment of skill, dedication, and artistic merit. Visit the website to
find out about how you can nominate an artist (or yourself) to be the
next Emerging Artist.

Keeping it GREEN
Our mission is to eventually be a 100% waste-free festival. Help
us show respect for each other, our community and our planet by
participating in our festival greening initiatives.
Reusable Dishes
Be sure to visit the reusable dish station in our food village to pick
up your dishes/cutlery for a refundable deposit of $2. We are renting
our dishes from the lovely OPIRG again and we only have so many
available to us. Please return your dishes to the GREEN Village
located at the top of the hill. And ENJOY the Food!
No Plastic Bottles
Were continuing a ban on plastic water bottles in the park on the
festival day. Bring your own bottle, cup, jug or jar and refill it at our
water stations all day.
Recycling
Look out for the recycling stations at the festival. Only you can help us
reduce the amount that gets thrown in the landfill afer the festival.
