Line: a point that is set of in space, a point put in motion

Shorthand, sketching an outline
Line needs to be associated with language- comes with a whole series of
characteristics.
Looking at different lines gives different emotions
Horizon line opening the door to a third dimension
Line describes outlines contour lines that lines the outer edge of anything
Line cannot create volume/dimension= some degree of depths: drawing
seems a lot flatter
Shallow depth: 2 papers in front of each other
Decision on how we put a frame to drawing should not be cropped out.
Dotted lines can signify movement
How far the segments are from each other can indicate a sense of tension
Psychic lines. E.g eye contact They move us around the space
Horizontal vs vertical lines: E.g broad vs tension
Diagonal: movement?
Symmetry: lines create a sense of calmness in the picture
Outines: Flattens things (-) Separate things (+)

Great design is serious, not solemn
Serious vs Solemn: NYC vs Washington DC
Perfection happens through solemn play not seriousness
Visual voice of a place she has never been in before, how design transcends so
many aspects
To be unqualified for the job ( Harder to be serious NOT solemn), allow space for
creativity
Seriousness usually come from having a job, chore etc / Solemnness for child like
creativity

Creativity is always meaningful, seeing the humour, different in creations
I like how we instill creativity through humour in the simplest way: chocolate

Environment can force you to be creativity

-Design: led not by strategy but by heart
-Ego should not be involved in graphic design
-Really love the macaroni art, using household simple everyday stuff to create art
-money is not a worthy goal, what makes something worthwhile is people she work
for, who is it for, what does it say, and what does it do?
- Inspiration is cross pollinating, a piece of mind may inspire a scientist, a novelist, a
playwright, or then it might inspire a doctor, a babysitter- WE TEND TO
UNDERVALUE THINGS IN SOCIETY WE CANT MEASURE.

Must maintain child like creativity but tries new things you might not necessarily

- An example of metaphor of an animal set loose and what it can do and how

Too many focal points and you are not going to get a focal point

Lose the sense of mystery
So to get away with that is to make the design more complex so the symmetry is not
obvious

Ideas of balance:
1. A large textured shape can counter balance the solid square
