1.0 GENERAL
1.1 The purpose of this procedure is to document how THE SUBCONTRACTOR carries out and
documents pigging.

2.0 PREPARATION OF THE PIPING SYSTEM FOR PIGGING
2.1 Visual inspection of the piping system is carried out to make sure that the pipes are not
blocked. Vents, temperature feelers, blinds (basically spades), etc. creating restrictions,
have to be dismantled by the client.

2.2 Ball valves can be left in fully open position. Arrangements must be made with a pig
receiver/net, and a tray to collect and drain the water, as appropriate, at the end of the
pipe (pig outlet). A transfer pump and hose may be used to drain the water overboard.

3.0 EQUIPMENT
3.1 Pig of suitable size and water pump of sufficient capacity to push the pig through.

4.0 PIGGING
4.1 A pig of the correct size is inserted into the pipe. A flange with a hose coupling and a
gauge to control the pressure build up is then mounted and the supply hoses is connected
to a circulating pump. (Please see the Attachment I for the pump specifications) and the
receiver is connected to the other end with a drain hose and to receive the pig. (Please see
the Attachment II for the Typical sketch for pigging).
4.2 If it is required to navigate the pig from a header and out to different branches, the pig
outlet branch is left open and the rest are blanked. After running the pig through, continue
flushing with water, if the water is polluted repeat the pigging operation until flushing
water is clean.

5.0 DOCUMENTATION
5.1 The pigging/water flushing report is filled out with the line/spool number and the results
are documented after the pigging process.
6.0 SAFETY PRECAUTION
6.1 Ensure that no unauthorized personnel are in the vicinity and front of the blow-out-end
during the pigging operation.

6.2 Pig inlet and blowout area is to be cordoned off during the pigging operation.
