I NTRODUCTI ON
Many non-mathematician have some
sense of the importance of Applied mathematics as
something with little use. Consequently we feel it, is
important to say little about pure mathematics and the
reason for doing research in it

CONTENT
What is mathematics?
It is not possible to give an answer to this question
that will satisfy all mathematicians, since so many
fields in mathematics are so different from each other.
Indeed we are tempted to throw our hands up in the
air and eco the words of Justice Potter Stewort by
simply saying I know it when I see it. But if we wish
to say something more informative then this we could
say that maths is the logical and abstract study
pattern. Why do people do research in mathematics?
Human beings are naturally quite good at recognizing
all sort of patterns and through all our senses we seem
to have an inbuilt fascination with pattern, we like to
cover the inside of our house with nicely patterned
wallpaper or paint work and the outside with nicely
patterned brick work or other finishes, we like the
complex pattern of music and scientist in all field get a
thrill when a formely unpredictable phenomenon is
seem to be governed by some pattern. Evolutionary
biologist would likely say that there are good
evolutionary reasons for this the weather, the seasons
habits of predators and many other things exhibit
patterns and over the course of human evolution, it
has been advantages for us to be good at recognizing
this pattern
The fascination that mathematicians have for their
research is thus arguably a mere extension of the
fascination that all people have with pattern. When
human examine a complex pattern, whether by
admiring the decoration of the Alhambra in Granada
or by listening to a fugue by Bach they occationally
notice patterns that they had not noticed before , a
phenomenon that they generally find delightful. This is
precisely the reaction that a mathematician feels when
he/she makes a breaksthrough in understanding some
complex abstract reasons
Although appreciation of the beauty of mathematics
and delight at discovering new pattern with complex
abstract is one of the primary motivation for all
mathematician ,there are a variety of other reasons
that people do research in mathematics. Indeed some
people may get as much enjoyment out of solving a
cross word ,puzzle or getting a high score in a video
game as a mathematician does in discovering
something new in mathematics but people typically do
make carries out those other activities. The fact is that
mathematics research is extremely useful.
Mathematics research influences student learning in a
number of ways
Writing math and problem solving becomes
central to student learning
Student develop mastry of mathematics topics.
Student develop their own mathematical aesthetic
as they practice making choices about which
aspects of a problem investigate.
Doing research is challenging an can be frustrating
student commitment to persistence and tolerance
for frustration grow as they are supported ,
encouraged and given repeated opportunity to
think about and succeeds with problem over days
and week

CONCLUSION
One of the main reason that mathematicians do
research is because they appreciate the beauty of
particular types of abstract pattern involved in
their own research and enjoy discovery non
obvious aspects of these complex pattern.
Research provides students with an
understanding of what it means to do
mathematics and of mathematics as a living
growing field
