Milk: Known to be a complete health drink in itself, milk is best consumed alone

. Due to the fat and protein content, milk turns into curd once it reaches the s
tomach which requires time for digestion. So it should not be had with foods con
taining salts like fruits, nuts, cereals or pulses.
Sugar: Sugar is digested in the intestines. If consumed with other foods like pr
oteins and starches or fats, it accumulates in the stomach for a prolonged perio
d awaiting digestion of other foods. So chances of fermentation increase. Sweet
curd, lassi, ice-cream, kheer, sweet milk are wrong combinations.
consuming cold water during or immediately after a meal lessens the digestive po
wer of body. Ice-cooled water makes the digestive enzymes inactive that leads to
partial digestion of food and absorption of nutrients in wrong combinations. So
, it is advised to sip lukewarm water during the meal to aid digestion.
Potatoes with fruits
Fruits (fructose) digest easily while potatoes (starchy food) take longer time t
o digest. There is a time difference for both the foods, hence Ayurveda suggests
not eating potatoes and fruits together.
Heating or cooking with honey
Honey becomes toxin when cooked. Cooked or heated honey takes long to digest, an
d its molecules become glued to stick to mucous membrane and lock fine channels,
producing poison.
Milk with meat
Meat gives heating effect while milk gives a cooling effect. Milk and meat count
eract each other disturbing agni and producing ama. Hence do not eat them togeth
er in a single meal. Consume separately in a gap of at least 4 hours.
Melons with Grains
When grains and melons are taken together, they lead to indigestion. Eat melons
alone as it digests alone, whereas grains need more time for digestion.
Bananas with milk
Avoid consuming bananas with milk as it reduces Agni and changes the intestinal fl
ora making toxins that can lead to sinus congestion cold, allergies and cough.
