Lol lol Industrial growth in bimaru states

Bihar has registered highest growth rate of 14 percent in the industrial sector during nine years period
of 2004-2012 among BIMARU category states -Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh -
and even above the average industrial growth at national level, said a study conducted by industry body
ASSOCHAM.

However, the study, titled 'Analysis of BIMARU states', has also pointed that lack of land, power and
health services and poverty may hamper Bihar's prospects in future.

"Registering over 9 percent growth in last 9 years in gross state domestic product (GSDP), Bihar has left
behind other BIMARU category states in terms of development," said D S Rawat, ASSOCHAM secretary
general, "It has not only surpassed its peers - MP (8.8 percent), Rajasthan (8.2 percent) and UP (6.9
percent) - but also stayed ahead of national growth rate of about 8 percent."

The study also shows that the state registered 10 percent CAGR in services sector, which is not only
ahead of its peers in this category but also more than the sector growth at national level.

The study states that Bihar has attained top spot in terms of per capita income growth.

The state registered highest growth rate of about 7.6 percent thereby leaving behind both national
average per capita income growth rate of 6.2 percent and other BIMARU states.

MP came second in this category with 7 percent and per capita income rose in Rajasthan rose by 6.2
percent in last 9 years.

Meanwhile UP clocked growth rate of 4.8 percent in this category, stated the analysis.

However, despite the growth, Bihar, still, has the lowest per capita income in the country.

The state also fared well in terms of agriculture and allied sector. Rawat stated, "With 4.7 percent
growth rate in this sector, Bihar has performed decently well as the state ranked ahead of the national
average, but stayed behind MP (7 percent) and Rajasthan (4.8 percent).

Meanwhile, UP remained on the bottom of the list with just 2.9 percent growth rate."

However, the trade body analysis highlighted the acute power crisis that the state is facing. "Bihar along
with UP and MP, today, is facing acute power crisis. In our study, we found that these states are
suffering from a supply deficit ranging from 10-17 percent. This may prove a major hurdle in Bihar's
growth story.

The state government have to focus on this issue immediately," said the trade body.

Rawat added, "Power and land shortage are the biggest problems that the entrepreneurs are facing
today in Bihar. The state government has to focus on this issue and have to innovate." He also
demanded special status for Bihar as it will attract private inv
