NOTE: The name at then end of a variety description indicates the group the koi is
classified in.

Ai Goromo
(EYE-GOR-OMO) A Kohaku whose red scales have blue semi-circular borders, giving
the Koi a reticulated pattern (Koromo)



Aka Bekko:
(ACKA BAKE-O) A red Koi with black markings. (Bekko)

Aka Matsuba:
(ACKA MATS-BA) A red Koi with black 'pinecone' Matsuba pattern in the scales along


Akame:
(ACKA-MAY) An eye with a red iris. Most often seen in Ki-goi. (Kawarimono)


Asagi
A grey-blue Koi with red along the sides, cheeks and in the fins. (Asagi / Shusui)

Beni-goi
(BENNY-GOY) A non-metallic red Koi, resembling Akamuji but with a deeper red
coloration (Kawarimono).

Beni Haijiro
(BENNY HA-J EER-O) Red koi with white tips on its pectoral fins (Kawarimono).

Some of the listings below are recent varieties such as the Kikokuryu or Doitsu or Gin
Rin classes. I've had to add the voice in two parts so to here the entire name pronounced
you'll need to click on each word individually. I don't think it will take you long to get the
"Doitz" or "Gin Ling" down pat.
Beni Kikokuryu
Basically, a metallic Kumonryu with some red (Beni). (Kawarimono:)


Beni Kumonryu:
Doitsu, red with white markings (Kawarimono:).



Budo Goromo
A Koi with a purplish, grape-like pattern on its whole body (Koromo).

Chagoi
(CHAR-GOY) A non-metallic light brown or tea colored Koi (Kawarimono).


Doitsu Aka Bekko
Doitsu, red/orange with black markings. (Doitsu)

Doitsu Aka Matsuba
Doitsu version of the pinecone scales. (Doitsu)

Doitsu Hariwake
Doitsu, metallic white with red, orange, or yellow markings. (Doitsu :)

Doitsu Hi Utsuri

Doitsu Ki Goi

(Doytz Coo-J a-Coo) A platinum Koi with red markings over its body and black markings
in the scales along the dorsal and lateral lines only (Doitsu).

Doitsu Ochiba Shigure
Doitsu, blue gray with brown to gold markings. This variety is mostly just called Ochiba
for short and you will also see it printed as Ochibashigure. It means "autumn leaves on
