VANGUARD Plant Coating System


System Description

Product Advantages

The Polyken VANGUARD System is the next


generation of multi-layer coating system designed
to compete on the global pipeline market. The
VANGUARD System consists of a liquid epoxy
primer layer and a modified high density
polyethylene mechanical layer. During application,
the multiple layers are fused together, resulting in
superior anti-corrosion properties, high adhesion,
and tough mechanical integrity that insure cost
effective long-term pipeline protection.

Synergy Plant Coating System


System Description

Product Advantages

Synergy is a multilayer plant coating system


consisting of a thermally activated primer, a crosslinked, thermoplastic elastomer layer, and a tough
polyolefin top layer. During application the three
layers are fused, resulting in strong mechanical and
chemical bonds that maximize performance.
Thermal fusion generates mechanical toughness
and superior anticorrosion properties that insure
long-term pipeline protection.

System Description

Product Advantages

The Polyken GO Coat200 system is designed for


in field application on pipe where soil stress
conditions exist and with a maximum operating
temperature of 200 F (93 C). The system
consists of a solvent based elastomeric primer, an
anti-corrosion layer formulated with a high-shear
elastomeric adhesive and a mechanical protection
layer formulated with a stabilized polymeric
backing for long-term stability at elevated
temperatures.

The Polyken GO Coat250 system is designed for the


corrosion protection of new and existing pipelines
with a maximum operating temperature of 250F
(121C). The primer layer is a solvent-based,
thermally-activated material formulated for elevated
temperature stability. The coating layer consists
of a polypropylene backing and a cross-linked

Tack Joint Wrap Tape
BASIC USE
Polyken 936 is a long-term UV resistant high tack
joint wrap for above or below ground use. This
unique product is easily applied to field joints,
fittings, tees and ells. The adhesive system on
Polyken 936 retains its high tack properties at a
range of temperatures from -30F (-34C) to 150F
(66C). The polyolefinic backing has excellent

conformability, and built-in resistance to environmental stress cracking (ESCR). In addition, the
built in UV protection makes Polyken 936 an
excellent candidate for above or below ground
applications of joint wrapping, where top
performance is required. Polyken 936 is available
in black.

Double Faced Tape Coating System


System Description

Product Advantages

The Polyken double faced tape coating system is


designed for the corrosion protection of girth weld
field joints, fittings, fabricated pipe sections, and the
repair of main line coatings. The system consists of
a liquid primer, a three ply anti-corrosion inner
layer, and a high density polyethylene mechanical
outer layer which is certified to the DIN 30672
Standard. The three ply adhesive system produces a
strong cohesive bond to the primed steel surface, at
the spiral overlap, and to the mechanical protection
outer layer. The tough mechanical properties of the
outer layer provide protection to the field joint and
repair areas during handling and installation.

High Temperature Polypropylene System


Product Advantages

System Description
The Polyken high temperature coating system is
designed for the corrosion protection of new and
existing pipeline with a maximum operating temperature of 250F (121C). The primer layer is a solventbased, thermally-activated material formulated for
elevated temperature stability. The coating layer
consists of a polypropylene backing and a crosslinked elastomeric adhesive capable of maintaining
long term protection at elevated temperatures.

System Description

Product Advantages

The Polyken #930 is a cold applied tape coating


system designed for the corrosion protection of
field joints, fittings, and specialty piping. The unique
adhesive retains conformability over a wide
temperature range, yet exhibits an elevated level
of sheer resistance, which is a key in-ground
performance characteristic. Coupled with the
low-density polyethylene backing, this versatile
tape system can be applied by hand or with a
wrapping machine.

The Polyken #932 is a cold applied tape coating


system designed for the corrosion protection of
field joints, fittings, and specialty piping. The high
tack butyl rubber adhesive is designed for high
initial adhesion, even during extreme cold weather
applications. Coupled with the highly conformable
polyethylene backing, the tape system provides
superb cold flow and instantaneous bonding to the
substrate.

#936 High U.V. Resistant/High


Tack Joint Wrap Tape
BASIC USE
Polyken 936 is a long-term UV resistant high tack
joint wrap for above or below ground use. This
unique product is easily applied to field joints,
fittings, tees and ells. The adhesive system on
Polyken 936 retains its high tack properties at a
range of temperatures from -30F (-34C) to 150F
(66C). The polyolefinic backing has excellent

conformability, and built-in resistance to environmental stress cracking (ESCR). In addition, the
built in UV protection makes Polyken 936 an
excellent candidate for above or below ground
applications of joint wrapping, where top
performance is required. Polyken 936 is available
in black.

Double Faced Tape Coating System


System Description

Product Advantages

The Polyken double faced tape coating system is


designed for the corrosion protection of girth weld
field joints, fittings, fabricated pipe sections, and the
repair of main line coatings. The system consists of
a liquid primer, a three ply anti-corrosion inner
layer, and a high density polyethylene mechanical
outer layer which is certified to the DIN 30672
Standard. The three ply adhesive system produces a
strong cohesive bond to the primed steel surface, at
the spiral overlap, and to the mechanical protection
outer layer. The tough mechanical properties of the
outer layer provide protection to the field joint and
repair areas during handling and installation.

ROCKSHIELD System

System Description
The Polyken ROCKSHIELD System consists of
tough PE mesh padding that provides three levels of
protection to the primary pipeline coating system
during installation and backfill. The unique diamond
shape mesh design will not interfere with the
cathodic protection system. The ROCKSHIELD
System offers three levels of mechanical protection.
ROCKSHIELD 5000 is a polyethylene mesh for every
day protection. ROCKSHIELD 5100 is a heavy gauge
strand mesh for maximum protection under severe
conditions. ROCKSHIELD 5200 is a polyethylene

mesh which is laminated to a polypropylene fabric


padding for maximum protection.

Filler Tapes
System Description

Product Advantages

The Polyken filler tapes are designed as an


underlying filler material prior to the application of
Polyken coating systems. The elastomeric
formulation is very conformable, making it ideal for
filling in transition areas around ts, ells, valves,
specials, welded and coupled field joints. The filler
tapes maintain flexibility over a wide temperature
range and under various conditions encountered
in the field.

Product Description

#931 Filler Tape


The Polyken #931 is a 100% solids butyl rubber filler tape with a heavy
duty plastic liner to facilitate application. The butyl alloy composition
maintains flexibility and will not flow at temperatures greater than 250 F
(121 C).

#939 Filler Tape


The #939 is a thick mastic-like butyl rubber fuller designed to fill and
smooth transition areas. The semi-tacky composition remains flexible and
is easily molded in place to conform around irregular shapes. #939
comes in roll and flat tape form in a variety of thickness to meet almost
any job requirement.

System Description

The Polyken utility tape coating systems have a


rich tradition in the pipeline industry since their
introduction in 1950. Designed specifically for the
gas utility, oil field, and plumbing industries, the
polyethylene backing and butyl rubber adhesive
are highly conformable and remain flexible over

#900: General utility tape designed for small
diameter pipe applications on ells, fittings,

conformable hand applied system for tight
uniform protection on a wide variety of metal

#911: General utility tape coating system for


temporary makeshift repair of primary coating
systems. Engineered for either hand or
machine application, the system is suited
for the in-ground protection of joints, ells,
and tees.

#910: All purpose field applied tape coating


system for use in the oil patch and gas fields.
Suited for hand application on a variety of
steel structures common to the oil field.
Frequently used for small makeshift repair
and temporary corrosion protection for the
small diameter pipe gathering systems.

Liquid Adhesive Systems


# 1019, 1027, 1030, 1039
Basic Use
Polyken liquid adhesive systems are recommended
for use with only Polyken coating systems. The
liquid adhesive systems consist of butyl based
elastomers blended with polymeric resins dissolved
in an organic solvent system. They can be used for
machine or hand brush application, are non-toxic
and non-polluting, and conform to local and
national standards. In addition to the excellent
adhesion to the pipe substrate and cathodic
disbondment resistance, the pipe surface is
protected against stress corrosion cracking with
industry proven SCC inhibitors.
Polyken 1019 liquid adhesive system is
recommended primarily for machine application
to new or smooth pipe surfaces. It promotes high
adhesion of the Polyken coatings to the pipe.
Polyken 1027 liquid adhesive system is ideal for

slower machine application to rough, reconditioned,


or grit-blasted pipe surfaces. It provides a uniformly
smooth, instant tack surface for Polyken coating
systems. Polyken #1027 is also used for all hand
brush applications.

Polyken 1030 liquid adhesive system is a low


VOC liquid adhesive system that complies with
most air quality regulations. The VOC content is 3.3
lbs/gal. And is designed for machine, spray, or hand
application in environmentally sensitive areas.
Polyken 1039 liquid adhesive system is a zero

VOC liquid adhesive system that complies with


federal and state clean air requirements. The liquid
adhesive is designed for machine, spray, or hand
brush applications in environmentally sensitive
areas. Used in conjunction with the recommended
Polyken coating systems, the #1039 will provide the
same long-term performance as the other Polyken
liquid adhesive systems.

Basic Use
These Polyken liquid adhesives are recommended for
use with Polyken Hi gh Temp coating systems. The
systems consist of syntheti c therm opla stic el astomer s
blended with heat-acti vated polymeric resins dissolved
in an organic solvent system. When the pi pe is heated
the re sul t is a cross-l i nked bondin g betw een pri me r,
coating and pipe, which results in excellent soil stress
& shear resistance, sup er io r adhesi on, lo w cathodi c
disbondment from the pipe substrate.. Moreover, these
systems contai n industry proven SCC inhibitorrs w h ic h
protect against stress corrosion cracking and furth er
enhance the coati ng's pr otecti on.
Polyken 1619 liquid adhesive system is

recommended primarily for machine & hand application


to new or smooth pipe surfaces. It creates high adhesion
of the Polyken High Temp coating, GoCoat 250.
Polyken 1627 liquid adhesive system is ideal for

slower machine or hand application to or grit-blasted


pipe surfaces. It provides a uniformly smooth, instant
tack on the pipe surface for Polyken coating systems.
Polyken #1627 is also used for hand brush applications.

Polyken 2019 liquid adhesive system is for use


with the Polyken shear resistant coating system, GoCoat
200. Excellent for coating pipe laid in identified areas of
severe soil stress, 2019 is designed primarily for machine
application to new or smooth pipe surfaces.
Polyken 2027 liquid adhesive system is ideal for

machine application to rough, reconditioned, or grit-blasted


pipe surfaces. It provides a uniformly smooth instant tack
surface for Polyken coatings. #2027 should also be used
for hand brush or roller applications involved GoCoat 200.
Note: Propely stored, all Polyken liquid coating systems
have a shelf life of 3 years. Please request an Application
Specification and storage guideline from Tyco Adhesives.
