What is a Project?
Temporary endeavor undertaken to create a
unique product, service or result
A project has a beginning and an end
The end is reached when the project achieves its
objectives or when its objectives will not or
cannot be met or when the need for it no longer
exists
A project produces a unique product (for in
instance Offices buildings in spite there are
similar: each one is a project)
The product that results from a project can be an
item by itself or a component of another item


What is Project Management?
Project Management is the application of
knowledge, skills, techniques and tools to
project activities to meet the project
requirements
Managing a Project typically includes:
Identifying requirements
Addressing the various needs, concers and
expectations of the stakeholders as the project is
planned and carried out
Balancing the competing project constraints suc
as : scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources
and Risk


The Role of the Project Manager
The Project Manager is the person assigned to achieve
the project objectives
The role of the Project Manager is distinct from a
functional manager , operations manager or site
manager
Depending on the organizational structure the Project
Manager may report to a Functional Manager,
Program Manager or Portfolio Manager
The Project Manager must posses the following
characteristics:
Knowledge
Performance
Personal

The Project Management Office(PMO)
The PMO is an organizational body or entity
assigned various responsabilities related to the
centralized and coordinated management of the
(those) Project(s) under its domain
A PMO may be delegated the authority to act as
an integral stakeholder and a key decision maker
A PMO supports Project Managers in ways such
as:
Managing shared resources
Identifying methodology, best practices ,
standards, policies, procedures and templates
Coordinating communication



Enterprise Environmental Factors
Enterprise Environmental Factors refer to both internal and external
factors that surround or influence the projects success.
Enterprise Environmental Factors include but are not limited to:

Organizational culture, structure and processes
Government or industry standards
Infrastructure
Existing Human resources
Personnel Policy
Company Work authorization system
Marketplace conditions
Stakeholders risk tolerances
Political climate
Organization stablished communication channels
Commercial databases
Project Management information
