In complex building structures, such as laboratories, it is important to keep disruption and construction to a minimum.

Unique to other building types, laboratories have many networks of piping and other infrastructure systems, making
construction costs higher than average. Additionally, laboratories often fush harsh chemicals down the drains,
greatly reducing the lifespan of the facilitys intricate (and vital) drain systems. Nu Flows nondestructive pipe lining
system rehabilitates laboratories failing pipes in-place without causing excavation of the building or any disruption
to normal operations.
Project: Nu Flow South Africa to use
the Nu Drain system to rehabilitate
underground drain lines without
disrupting the labs normal operations.
Customer: Barloworld is a leading
industrial brand management company,
founded in South Africa.
Site: An ISO 9001 test laboratory
used for Barloworlds research and
development, as well as quality control,
located in Boksburg, Gauteng, South
Africa.
System: The 75mm and 110mm
diameter PVC drain pipes for the
laboratorys test benches. The drain
pipes run underground beneath
the epoxy-coated foors, stainless
steel equipment and electronic test
equipment.
Problem: The customer knew that the underground pipe system was experiencing problems when they noticed that
the buildings oil and water separator systems had contamination. Oils, chemicals and hot water that are discharged
through the drain pipe system eventually eroded part of the PVC pipes and caused water infltration at the joints.
Circumvention: If the customer had chosen a traditional repipe instead of Nu Flows in-place pipe lining solution,
the customer would have had been disrupted for weeks. The facilitys heavy equipment would have to be moved
so the foors could be jackhammed open. Pipe replacement obviously was not a practical solution for the customer.
Solution: Barloworld takes environmental protection and sustainability very seriously, so when dealing with waste
oil and other effuents, the business does not take chances, so they sought an immediate, proven solution and chose
Nu Flow South Africa. Skilled technicians installed the Nu Drain system into the laboratorys underground drain
pipes. This pipe lining process is completed using existing access points, which prevents the need for excavation
of the building, and a patented Pull-in-Place process. An epoxy-saturated liner is pulled into place and then cures,
forming a strong, protective, seamless pipe-within-a-pipe. This structural liner can withstand oil, chemicals and hot
water, greatly extending the useful life of this drain pipe system. The customer was extraordinarily pleased that
normal operations w! ere not disrupted during the work.
Nu Flows in-place lining solutions prevent
international laboratories, like this one, from
experiencing operations downtime or excavation that
would cause sensitive equipment to be moved.
