B.S. Abdur Rahman University (formerly B.S.Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering
College) is NAAC accredited with an A grade and has been imparting quality
education in the field of engineering, technology and management for three decades since

Department of English
The department of English was established in 1984 to provide support service. Since
then, it has been teachingTechnical English and Communication Skills for the students
of engineering and management studieswith the help of two Language Laboratories. The
department has signed an MoU with Cambridge ESOL examinations, London and has
been offering value-added course namely, Business English Certificate Course since
2009. Subsequent to the attainment of university status, it elevated itself to the next level
by offering Research studies in Literature and Linguistics on full time (with scholarship)
and part time basis. The department has been conducting national and state level
conferences, seminars and workshops on various aspects of English Language Teaching
and Literature in order to equip the faculties with the current trends in classroom
pedagogy. The faculties have published in refereed national and international journals.
They have brought out a resource book for the English course.
About the Workshop
Inkeeping up with its continuing quest for developing and enriching the communication
skills of learners, the department of English is organizing this one-day workshop. The
objective is to train the English teachers in the nuances of writing an effective Lesson
Plan with greater focus on Technical English and implementing it successfully. OBTL
has shifted the focus from the teachers who occupied the centre stage to the learners to
ensure acquisition of competence in communication. The University has subscribed to the
OBTL methodology and has effected changes in Teaching Techniques. The department
conceived it appropriate to provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience for the
teachers tobecomebetter professionals.
Objectives of the Workshop:
To understand the importance of Outcome Based Teaching-Learning.
To train teachers in the nitty-gritty of drawing up a Lesson Plan as per Outcome
Based TeachingLearning.
ToalignLearning Activities with Learning Objectives.
To demonstrate the way to use the lesson plan in the classroom effectively.
To assess the effectiveness of the lesson plan

Submission of DD and Application Form
The fee has to be remitted in the form of a Demand Draft in favour of The
Registrar, B.S.Abdur Rahman University payable at IOB, Chennai, drawn from any
nationalized bank. The filled in application form and DD should reach us on or before 6
October 2014.
