BIBLE LEARNING IN BASIC ENGLISH.

The Bible Learning In Basic English series attempts to simplify English Bible teaching
without dumbing down its message. The choice of the NIRV (New International Readers
Version) was made to facilitate the process of teaching people who are learning English as a second language to
understand Gods Word, particularly those who have expressed an interest in baptism. Some English
conventions such as punctuation have also been simplified in the lesson notes and slideshows in order to
further facilitate understanding of baptism topics. The BLIBE series has scope for all fieldworkers to use their
own knowledge, gifts and talents in response to the needs of different contacts.

Slideshows to facilitate discussion are available in the Preaching Toolkit. Examination of translation issues is
encouraged. Students should also read the Bible in their own first language to support their understanding.
Doing this supports teaching difficult vocabulary and concepts especially when a translator with strong Bible
knowledge is not available.
Translation of this series into the native tongue of Cambodia (Khmer) is included. Care has been taken not to
breach copy right with maps and graphics, respecting the provisions that various sources stipulate. This series
of lessons is very much a work in progress and further refinement and improvements are anticipated.
