Joan Chrystine Zuleger Shepherd, 94, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life
Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Colonial Place in Elkins.
Chrys was born Thursday, January 22, 1920 in Yonkers, NY, a daughter of John
Zuleger and Beatrice Asbury Zuleger. On January 1, 1944, in Morristown, NJ, she
married Robert “Bob” Shepherd. They were devoted partners for over seventy years.
Also left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Mary Alice Milnes and husband
Gerry of Elkins, five grandchildren, Amelia Shepherd and husband Sergey Vershinin,
Bridget Smith and husband Steve, Sean Evoy and wife Paula, all of Ottawa, Canada,
Lydia Milnes and husband Ryan Withers of Huntington and Jesse Milnes and wife
Emily Miller of Valley Bend, seven great grandchildren, Maren, Carter, Aaron, Claire,

Preceding Chrys in death besides her parents was one son, John Shepherd and one
sister, Alice Olwig.
Prior to moving to Elkins seven years ago, Chrys and Bob lived in Moorestown, NJ
for sixty years. Chrys was active in the community, with Trinity Episcopal Church,
the Child Guidance Center, community theater, Girl Scouts, school board, garden
club and as a hospice volunteer. Chrys and Bob loved to entertain, play bridge and
travel the world.
Chrys’s request for cremation was honored and a memorial service will be held at
a later date.
