enthusiasm and $eal within an individual to work "or the attainment o" goals!
The world consists o" heterogeneous population! The income disparities# the di""erence
between urban and rural areas# make it di""icult to de"ine a particular need "or which a
person may be motivated! What may be a need "or survival like "ood# shelter# clothing#
etc "or one person may be a part o" normal li"estyle "or the other person! %or some
people# in addition to basic needs# some other needs are eually important! Though the
desire or thirst "or money continues# sel" esteem# social and security needs# appraisal etc!#
are also needed!
Motivation is whatever drives you to do something! In case o" an employee# pay cheue
is the main motivation! Moreover# other incentives or peruisites like rent "ree
accommodation# interest "ree loans# use o" motor car etc!# also motivate employees to
per"orm better! In case o" a student# good grades are the source o" motivation! A student
studies or works harder to get grades better than his competitors! With a view to outshine
his peers or "riends# he is motivated to work harder and get good grades! An individual# in
order to lose weight# may e&ercise rigorously!
Motivation may be positive as well as negative! %irst we will discuss positive motivation!
'ositive motivation provides rewards like increase in pay# promotion# recognition# etc! "or
e&ample a "ather tells his child i" he studies well and get high grades he will buy him a
new Macbook! Negative motivation uses negative means like punishments# stopping
increments# threatening and creating a sense o" "ear o" loss o" (ob etc! which also induce a
person to act in the desire way! A "ather tells his child that i" he doesn)t study he won)t let
him go to the summer camp! 'ositive and negative motivation must be given in the right
proportion "or the best results!
Motivation can be done by both "inancial and non "inancial ways! %inancial incentives
means the incentives which are in direct monetary "orm and includes basic pay and
allowances# bonus# pro"it sharing # commission etc! Non "inancial incentives a""ect an
individual psychologically# socially# and emotionally!
