Overview
Objective:
1. Students will list the characteristics of their season.
2. Students will explain their season through an oral and visual presentation on Microsoft
PowerPoint.
3. Students will create a computerized drawing of their season to go with their PowerPoint
presentation.

Assessment Plan:
students will be assessed on their presentation: visual and oral requirements. They will create a
computerized drawing using Microsoft Paint and be assessed on their use of lines and forms to
create a drawing that communicates their season..

Learning Context: Students have covered this topic last year and we will use their familiarity
with this topic to cover technology use in learning. The familiarity of this topic will also allow
them to be creative and demonstrate their understanding of the seasons in further detail.

Time Allotment: 1 - 1 1/2 weeks. The first few days focus on the students gathering information
and making a list of characteristics. The last few days will go over using the technology. The
last day they will give their presentation. Extra days for extension activities or reteaching lesson.

Differentiation of Instruction:
The lesson has visuals, oral presentation, creative visual arts, collaboration, and a hands on
pieces to the lesson. All of these are designed to create learning in different ways.

Sequence of Procedures
Opening
1. Gaining Attention: Tell students they have an important job, because they will be
creating a group presentation (give examples: Like a weather man does on television
everyday.)
2. Prior Knowledge: Ask students if they remember what their 5 senses are: smell, touch,
sight, hearing, taste. The students have covered a lesson on their 5 senses and let them
know we use some of those senses to tell what season we are in.
3. Purpose (Objective) of Lesson: Let students know that they will be doing a creative
project each day and they will also be learning about how to use a computer software
program called Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Paint.
Body
4. Once students understand the objective, next review the seasons.
5. Day 1: Divide into four groups. Ask students to answer the questions on their forms
• Write the name of the season your group will work on.
• Write down 4 characteristics of this season
• How do people dress during this season? Write down 4 clothing items associated with
this season.
1. Day 1:View the websites and gather information.
2. Day 2: Demonstrate how to use Microsoft Paint . Have each student create their pictures
based on the characteristic they will be presenting (i.e. the winter is cold = student
would draw picture depicting a cold wintery scene.)
3. Day 3: Demonstrate how to use PowerPoint. Have 2 groups work on this project today
(one group at a time to allow for teacher assistance).
4. Day 4: Have the other 2 groups work on their PowerPoint presentations. Ensure all
groups have completed their PowerPoint presentations.
5. Day 5: Have students practice their presentations once. After lunch students will give
their final presentations to the class.
Assessment
6. Students will need to further their skills on the new software programs and presentation
skills. This lesson is to introduce new technology, and working in groups while learning
about the seasons. The assessment will be judged on the completion of their forms and
drawing project, and the participation in the group and with the presentation.
Closure
7. After the presentations the teacher will ask students if they liked using this visual tool.
Explain to students how many people use this tool to explain things with pictures.
Explain how weather reporters use a visual map of the United States to show people the
weather in their area. Tell students they will be using computers all throughout
education and stress the importance of learning how to use computers to help their
learning.

Reteaching Activities
Show students pictures that represent the seasons, ask them to identify which season the picture
belongs in.
Extension Activities
Have students race to the dress up area and don the correct clothing for the season you call out,
make it a race.
