Module Competencies:
To develop understanding of various types of Hot Mix Plants that are available
Theory
To study various types of hot mix plants e.g. Batch Mix type and Drum
mixing type
Batch Mix type mix material and Drum Mix type material
Suitability of different types for various applications e.g. bituminous
mixes
Practice
Visual exposure to various types and identification thereof
Guidelines for Assessment
The student should be assessed for the following:
Able to identify types of hot mix plant
Able to list down suitability of various types of plants for different
applications.

Able to identify warning messages and take necessary measures
5.4 Title of the Module: Raw Materials
Module Competencies:
To develop understanding of various types of materials including their grading etc
Theory
Various types of Aggregate: Coarse aggregate, fine aggregate , stone dust , filler
, bitumen etc.
Type of aggregate used for various types of constructions
Moisture in aggregate conditions and its implications on mixing
Bitumen temperature sensitivity, storage temperature , suitable mixing
temperature, adverse affects of overheating and underheating

Able to list down various types of raw materials and their usage
5.5 Title of the Module: Maintenance of Plant
Module Competencies:
To understand importance plant maintenance and implement necessary routine
maintenance measures
Theory
To study behavior of bitumen and bituminous mixes under hot and cold
temperature conditions
Emptying of drum and cleaning -various issues
Maintenance of screens etc.
Precautions during adverse weather conditions
Long term shut down measures
Temperature of bitumen during storage
Practice
Observe the maintenance operations (Practical and video)

The student should be assessed for the following:
Able to list down various issues of maintenance
6. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EFFECTIVE CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION, EVALUATION AND
CERTIFICATION
To implement curriculum properly, the Master Trainer should follow the procedure below:
1. Theory session to be conducted to develop background. (Use printed module).
2. Explain various components of HMP and its controls with PowerPoint/video films.
3. With Video/PowerPoint Slide Presentation explain the skills to be developed.
4. Follow up with on job training. For this purpose a nearby hot mix plant site to be arranged.
5. Evaluation to be based on theoretical understanding as well as practical demonstration of
skills.
7. RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS :
(a) Machineries & Equipment
Arrangement of site visit to the following equipment
Batch Mix Plant and Drum Mix type plant
(b) Consumables
: Benzene etc
(c) Books/Instructional Resources Instruction resources like Educational film(s),
Module(s),Power Point Slide Presentation
