TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, AUGUST 17, 2014
From the Desk of Fr. Underwood:
Human Life is Sacred! Pray and witness to this truth by participating in the National Life Chain (Oct. 5th) and the 40 Days for Life campaign (Sept. 24th-Nov. 2nd). More information can be found in this and upcoming bulletins. High School Youth Ministry: Early in the summer, Kent and Kendra Leckrone informed Fr. Dan and Fr. Jeff that they wanted to step back from the high school youth ministry - Life Teen. Thank you to them for their hard work and dedication for the past several years. The program has grown under their guidance and continues to provide wonderful opportunities for our young people. For this school year, Fr. Jeff and I have appointed Bill and Sue Bayley as Interim Directors of Youth Ministry. They have the experience in running our Antioch Retreat and are familiar to our teens. Thank you to Bill and Sue for accepting this position. And encourage your teens to get involved with Life Teen! Make Saint Francis Proud! Dont forget that the Blessing of Animals is Saturday, October 4 th at 10:00 in the courtyard. The annual Parish Nurse Health Fair is Wednesday, October 8 th in the Social Hall from 1:00 to 3:00, and the Annual Living Rosary will be Wednesday, October 8 th at 7:15 in the courtyard. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. St. Paul is Encouraging Us Again! In the second reading for this weekends Mass, St. Paul was encouraging the Philippians to be united in the faith. His message is sweet and motivating, resonating with deep faith and love of God. It is worth pondering in the coming week, considering how we approach others, our parish family, and being a member of the Universal Church, the Body of Christ. During the first few weeks of this school year, I learned about the Lafayette Catholic Schools emphasis on J-O-Y, that is Jesus, Others, and then Yourself. Lets think about that as we read from Philippians 2:1-5... Brothers and sisters: If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but also for those of others. Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus. Liturgy Schedule

RCIA - Precatechumenate or Inquiry Conversion is a gradual process or a faith journey. The first step in this journey is the inquiry stage. This period may last a long time. One needs to be aware that gradual conversion cannot be measured in earth time, but in God's time. The aim of this period is to awaken one's faith. It is characterized by: Sharing stories about the Catholic faith. Answering questions about why Catholics do the things they do. Proclaiming the message of salvation through the Word. Introduction into parish life. Building trust and community. Once God's time has been fulfilled and the inquirer is ready to take the first step in the process of conversion, they will be invited to participate in The Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens. Inquiry now meets every Sunday at 9:30am in the St. Clare room at the Parish Office Bldg. We would love for you to join us. You must attend inquiry sessions before you can be invited to participate in the Rite of Acceptance on October 26 th at the 9:30am Mass. Childrens Liturgy of the Word help Needed We are in need of adults to lead the Childrens Liturgy of Word at 11:15 Mass. We cannot start this ministry until we have a full rotation. Childrens Liturgy of the Word is a ministry where the children are called forward and dismissed before the readings from Scripture and gathered in the school library to hear the Word of God at a level of understanding for them. They talk about its meaning for their lives, and enter into prayer with the other children gathered. The children return to the church during the Presentation of the Gifts. Children's Liturgy of Word adult volunteers help the children focus on the Liturgy of the Word and assist in bringing the children to and from the main assembly. There is NOT a big time commitment. Volunteers are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to Mass, prepare for the readings of the week and have a reflection to share with the children. Confirmation students assist with the children and Scripture readings. We plan to get enough volunteers so that each adult would only be scheduled once every other month during the school year. Volunteers must be reliable, have a love of children, and a passion for God's Word. All Volunteers will receive training and reflection materials. If you are interested or need more information contact Ryan Hillman at Hillman@Catholicweb.com or 423-2396. Do you have questions about annulments? Secularists are trying to push God from the public square. They reject His beneficial action upon society. But without God, where will our leaders get the wisdom to solve the great problems we face? We must stop the secularist advance and pray to God for help. He will hear us, if we pray through the intercession of His Blessed Mother. Thats why were launching the 2014 Public Square Rosary Crusade. In The secret of the Rosary, St. Louis de Montfort said: Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Ghost, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering.
