1 Introduction
Our fourth Project taught us rendering and rendering techniques.

2 Problem Statement
For this Project we had to follow tutorials to learn basic and advanced rendering
techniques. We also read some guides and had to render some objects on our
own.

3 Result
3.1 Part A

Figure 1: First Cell Phone Rendering

The first part introduced to rendering. We learned how to set up the general
settings for rendering. We also learned how to set up the lights, perspective,
room, and other settings for rendering. I was not able to extrude my name on this
part for some reason (you were there!) so after a while(10-15 minutes), I gave
up and went on and rendered the part.

3.2 Part B

(a) Aluminum (b) Cast Aluminum

(c) Polished Gold (d) Brushed Gold

(e) Clear Glass (f) Colored Glass

4
(g) Injection Mold Plastic (h) Spark Eroded Plastic

(i) Translucent Plastic

Figure 2: The Rendered Ornament with Different Materials

Part B showed us how to render different materials. This Part was the most
interesting to me. The vast amount of materials that can be rendered is amazing.
This part was also the easiest since it mostly focused on the simple and less
problematic Appearance window.

5
3.3 Part C

Figure 3: The Rendered Razor

This Part was the most problematic of them all. We had to read a tutorial to learn
advanced rendering techniques and then use those techniques to render a razor.
That wasn’t problematic, but Pro/E crashed when I rendered the picture multiple
times. I had to use a lower quality to render this part, but I still used the
techniques used in this section.

6
3.5 Mini-Project

Figure 4: The Second Rendered Cell Phone

The mini-project was easy because it was just an application of what we already
learned. For most of the parts I created new materials. For the rubber though, I
used the “Photolux System Library” and used the pre-made rubber setting and
just changed the color. I loaded and used the scene from the Zip in the first cell
phone part. For the lights, I saved the lights setting in a .dlg file from the first cell
phone and loaded it in this one.

4 Discussion
We should get extra points for when Pro/E crashes on us.

7
5 Conclusion
The rendering feature of Pro/E is a really useful and pretty cool feature. The only
problem I have with it is that all of the settings (lights, perspective, room, etc.) are
hard to keep track of; and mistakes only show up after rendering, which (in my
experiences) could crash the program or just take a long time. It would be a great
asset to know how long it takes on average to render a high quality image, so we
can tell if the program is still working or crashed.
