1 Introduction
Our second Project helped us learn more of the basics of 3D CAD modeling. We
made three basic parts. Then we learned how to make engineering drawings and
assemblies.

2 Problem Statement
We had to create two basic 3D models using the skills we learned in our previous
project. Then we had to create a spring using a helical sweep. And finally we had
to makes an engineering drawing and an assembly.

3 Result

3.1 Part A

(a) (b)
This is Part A shown from two different views, (a) and (b)

We were required to make this part using only one extrusion and one cut. Once I
looked at it and thought about it for a minute, it was quite simple.

3.2 Part B

(a) (b)
This is Part B shown from two different views, (a) and (b)

We were told to make this part out of the book. It only gave a few dimensions
and specifications, so I had to make the parts (the round top and + shaped cut)
using only visual clues and assumptions.

3.3 Part C

(a) (b)
This is Part C shown from two different views, (a) and (b)

We used an online tutorial to make Part C. It introduced us to helical sweeping. It

was pretty simple to make, and the tutorial was pretty helpful; but the wording of
one of the last steps was confusing and took a while to figure out.

3.4 Part E

This is Part E, a drawing of a pulley

This is a drawing of a pulley part and its sections. Creating the drawing was
simple enough, but creating the dimensions was very difficult and I could find
little help (and the help I found wasn’t very helpful).

3.5 Part F

(a) (b)
This is the exploded (a) and assembled (b) system

5
This part of the project introduced us to assemblies. It was quite simple and
Pro/E is very easy in this aspect. I had a few problems though. At first I used the
wrong L-Bracket from the book. And then for the bushing and washer, I made the
diameters the radii

4 Discussion
I once again feel that the tutorial book is a terrible teacher and rarely helpful. I’m
finding Pro/Engineering to be a very good program, but the tutorial book is not.

5 Conclusion
This project helped reinforce the skills I learned in Project 01. I also learned how
to make a helical sweep. When doing the Drawing in Part E, I had much trouble,
and in the end didn’t learn as much about making drawings this time. The
assembling feature of Pro/E is very easy and helpful, so I feel that I mastered the
material taught in this project.
