Currently there are two types of tidal energy technologies being exploited: barrage systems
and tidal stream systems.
Stream turbines make use of the kinetic energy of the tidal stream or ocean stream by
using both propeller type horizontal axis turbines and vertical axis ones. Stream turbines
operate in free stream conditions, thus they have to have relatively low solidity and at the
same time, as large rotors areas as possible to capture the energy in the flow with low
pressure and low velocity.
Barrage systems make use of the potential energy due to the difference in hydraulic heads
between high and low tides. Barrages are built across the full width of a river estuary or a
bay, creating a tidal basin to trap the incoming sea water during high tides. Hydraulic head
is thus created when the water level outside of the basin is lowered due to low tides.

The objectives of this project are to design a tidal generation system to generate
renewable energy.
The project objective is to provide investigation information in order to give suitable
locations for the implementation of tidal energy into breakwater in Malaysia. In order to find
the list of tidal streams, the data of tidal observation is available at National Hydrographic
Center where the books of Tide Tables Malaysia were obtained. It contains data where the
tide predictions were tabulated for the whole months throughout the year.
The reason why this topic is selected because Malaysia is surrounded by the sea. UMP
Pekan especially is located near the Kuala Pahang which is in the planning and
construction of breakwater that are built to help local residents avoid floods the beach. It
also can drain the floodwater into the sea quickly and provide protection to ships and boats
of the tidal wave and can be docked safely especially during the rainy season. A
breakwater structure is designed to absorb the energy of the waves that hit it therefore this
project propose to develop a tidal power into the breakwater system.
Using piezoelectric elements is a popular way to harvest ambient mechanical energy. An
input vibration applied on to a piezoelectric material causes mechanical strain to develop in
the device which is converted to electrical charge. Harvesting ambient vibration energy
through piezoelectric means is a popular energy harvesting technique which can potentially
supply 10100s of W of available power. One of the main limitations of existing
piezoelectric harvesters is in their interface circuitry. This project will use a bias-flip rectifier
circuit that can improve the power extraction capability from piezoelectric harvesters over
conventional full-bridge rectifiers and voltage doublers.

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are an emergent technology that offers a novel approach to
small scale electrical power generation that could be useful for recharging batteries for use
in cameras, medical devices, or other battery-operated devices in areas without access to
the capital needed for more traditional means of electrical generation. It use an organic
material as a fuel from various things like glucose whichcan be obtained from
wastewater. Its converts chemical energy, available in a bio-convertible substrate, directly
into electricity. To achieve this, bacteria are used as a catalyst to convert substrate into
electrons.Bacteria are very small organisms which can convert a huge variety of organic
compounds into CO2, water and energy. The micro-organsisms use the produced energy
to grow and to maintain there metabolism. However, by using a MFC it can harvest a part
of this microbial energy in the form of electricity. A MFC consists of an anode, a cathode, a
proton or cation exchange membrane and an electrical circuit.

Many industrial and domestic applications require power with no physical contacts.
Inductive power transfer (IPT) is a technique, which enables such contactless power
delivery to devices/equipment in an efficient and compact manner. This technique is
gaining global popularity and wide acceptance for numerous applications, and offers the
advantages of high efficiency, typically about 85-90%, robustness and high reliability as it
can be used in hostile environments being unaffected by dust or chemicals. Typical IPT
systems, as described in the following section, invariably employ a separate controller for
both sides of the system across which the contactless power transfer takes place. The two
controllers are usually operated independently to ensure that efficient and controlled power
transfer from one side to the other will take place across an air-gap. An IPT system with a
single controller lowers the overall system cost, complexity and size, and improves the
efficiency and reliability.
The main objective of the project is to develop an inverter circuit that has clean sinusoidal
output AC power supply with desirable frequency that suitable for all devices. The inverters
has high efficient pure sine wave and affordable for users in urban and rural area as the
main power supply or as a backup. The project was carried out to design, simulate and
fabricate a single-phase sinusoidal PWM inverter using bipolar switching technique, in
which the output voltage can be varied by adjusting the control parameters in the control
signal. The magnitude of output AC can be changed by changing the modulation index,
while the frequency can be varied by changing the modulating frequency. The study is
done in two parts which are the simulation based on selective software and hardware
implementation. The performance of the designed PWM inverter was observed and
analyzed. The obtained results were verified by the hardware implementation. The
simulation was produced good results, and some parts of the hardware worked as
expected.
A dual axis or double axis tracker is a tracker that has two degrees of freedom that act as
axes of rotation which are horizontal and vertical axis. The vertical axis pivot shaft allows
the tracker to move to a compass point such as east to west. While, the horizontal axis
works as elevation that moves depending on the altitude of the sun. Hence this system is
able to tracks the Suns movement in any positions either east to west or north to south.
This system should be operated under a computer control or a micro controller according
to the expected solar position and need to be calibrated with tracking sensor to control
motors that orient the panels toward the sun. Therefore, this system allows the increase of
power output energy which is approximately around 40% gain rather than the fixed panels.
Fishing now has emerged as a professional sport and the numbers of the anglers are
increasing since they have succeeded to form the anglers community in term of sharing
information about fishing. With respect due to these communities, smart fishing tools is
created to assist the angler team in improving their performances in term of catching
fishes while it is built in a low cost budget. The purpose of this project is to develop a
device that produces an alarm system for fishing purpose. Thus, two sets of vibration
sensors that are highly sensitive is used in this project to detect the vibrations resulted
from the fish when it eats the bait. These sensors will detect the vibration produces and
then will give significant amount of voltages. When the fish eats the bait, the vibration
sensor will detect the motion behavior of the fish in the form of threshold voltage. Then,
from the motion by the fish, a signal is produced by the device to alert the angler about the
fish behavior. As a result, the fishing method is become more conducive and efficient.
The gardeners and small-scale cultivators mostly use manual labours to irrigate and
fertilizing their crops. The manual gardening method proved to be tiring and time
consuming while the current fertigation systems available in the market are very
expensive. The project was conducted in order to design and develop an affordable smart
fertigation system for plants. The affordable Arduino Uno microcontroller will be used by
the system to replace the expensive and sophisticated controllers that were available in the
current fertigation systems. For this system, the microcontroller programmed to analyse
feedback signals from rain, pH, moisture and temperature sensors as they inspected the
soils and weather conditions. The data processed and based on fuzzy logic, the solution
mixing process executed. The estimated nutrient and water needed been provided by
mixing water and fertilizer together based on their ratios and amount. The solution pumped
into the irrigations area using a pump. The sensors feedback will keep updating the
microcontroller about the weather and soils condition, hence, the optimum nutrients and
water supplies can be obtained. The development of Smart Fertigation System produced
better crops growth and better yields at low cost, hence will be very beneficial towards
small-scale cultivators and farmers.
Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) is a mechanical device for making and breaking a
circuit both under normal conditions and under abnormal conditions. When tripping occurs,
ELCB need to turn ON manually. The problem arises when there is no one nearby the area
when tripping occurs to turn it ON back. The purpose of this project is to build devices that
can ON the ELCB back automatically. This project is designed to interface with domestic
used ELCB, so that the electrical system can be controlled even when house owner are
not at home. Prototype of this project was built by using Arduino Uno as microcontroller for
ELCB. While GSM module was used to communicate between ELCB and handphone.
When tripping occurs, Arduino Uno will give instruction to servomotor to move back the
ELCB to its original position. When tripping occur more than three times and in 1 minutes
time interval per trip, the ICOMSAT GSM will send message to house owner's handphone
to alert them about the fault that occur in the system.
In this project an LCL filter will be proposed to replace L-type filter in a dc/dc converter for
battery charging applications. The merits of using an LCL filter are compact size, and
extremely low ripple of charging current. The ripple free charging can reduce the heat
generated by the ripple of the charging current and improve the battery lifetime. Filter
based controller will be proposed to solve the control loop instability issue caused by LCL
filter. The proposed system and control methods will be verified by simulation and
experiment.
The renewable energy sources (RES) such as photovoltaic (PV) are basically DC power
sources. In the present scenario, the integration of RES to power distribution infrastructure
necessitates the DC-AC converter. Moreover the DC loads in the buildings is ever
increasing with the use of CFL, LED, refrigerator, TV, fan, air conditioner, laptop, and other
electronics in workplaces and homes. This forced to introduce the internal or external AC-
DC converter to tie the DC load to AC distribution infrastructure of existing power system.
This is further adding losses and complexity. This AC-DC converter stage can be reduces
up to a certain level by DC distribution system (DCDS). Secondly the multi voltage rating of
RES and DC load insists to introduce DC-DC converter in DCDS infrastructure. This will
further add losses and complexity. In this project, a standard voltage level DCDS will be
proposed to minimizethe system losses, complexity. To verify the simulated results in
terms of building load and converter losses, a DCDS equipped with different energy
sources like solar panel (PV), public utility (PU) and battery bank (BB) will be compared
with ACDS.
With the growing use of renewable energy sources in power system, the problem of
decreasing power quality of power grid becomes critical. Therefore, Renewable Energy
Systems (RES) are required to comply with strict technical and regularity
frameworks to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of overall network. Controller
is a main part of RES. So, in this project, a PI-Fuzzy controller will be proposed to increase
the quality of injected power to the grid by renewable energy sources. Simulation results
will provide to verify the validity of the modeled system performance.
Wherever a power grid is not or not at reasonable costs available, a stand-alone
photovoltaic system can be used to generate the needed electric energy. Examples for
such an application are alpine huts or cabins in remote areas, solar-powered water pumps,
emergency telephones, but also systems for boats or recreational vehicles (camper vans).
In this project, a PI-Fuzzy controller will be proposed to increase the quality of injected
power to different loads by PV system. Simulation results will provide to verify the validity of
the modeled system performance.
Leakage current and DC injection have been the major concern with transformerless PV
inverters. The influence of parasitic capacitance values on leakage current has not been
investigated before.
This project will give a detailed analysis of common mode model of single phase inverter.
Three H-Bridge derived topologies will be selected for analysis of leakage current through
the parasitic capacitance and also DC injection in the output of the inverter (Ozkan et al
2012). Analysis will be done for varying values of parasitic capacitance. The effects of
output series capacitance and filter inductor imbalances will also be investigated. Three
topologies under consideration are as follows:
i) H-Bridge with Bipolar PWM
ii) H-Bridge with Unipolar PWM
iii) H-Bridge with Hybrid PWM
Wherever a power grid is not or not at reasonable costs available, a stand-alone (off-grid)
photovoltaic system can be used to generate the needed electric energy. This project will
deal with investigation on the off-grid PV system behaviour. Then, the steady
state, transient respond, current & voltage harmonics will define and discuss for an stand-
alone (off-grid) PV system. For this reason, this project will provide a simulation and
implementation of an off-grid PV system using PWM inverter and a PI/PID controller. At
the end, the simulation and experimental results will be compared.
This project is to develop a Chili Cutter using AC induction motor. The DC motor
development is already exist in the faculty. Therefore, the student should be able to
compare the capability of AC induction motor and DC motor in order to choose which
motor is more practical and save cost. This project can control the speed of the cutter
depending on the amount of the chili per hour. This project can be used for commercial
purposes and help small food industry.
This project is to develop a Photovoltaic Power System that can be applied at farmhouse
Sg Lembing which no electrical supplies. The development of the charging system can be
used for commercial purposes and help people in the rural area. The student should be
able to analyze and monitor the performance of development system such as faster
changing time and discharge time.
The project is to develop the automatic cooling system using Thermoelectric that can be
applied on the car while the car is parking on the sunny day. This develop system should
be automatically turn on when the engine of the car is stop depending on the temperature
inside and outside of the car. This temperature can be controlled by temperature sensor.
The project includes the development of charging system using solar panel. This system
can be used for commercial purposes and prevent heat stroke when someone is left
behind inside the car during sunny day.
The project is develop automatic watering system using photovoltaic power system for mini
garden.
The project is to develop automatic and portable multipurpose mixer cooker by using AC
motor. The multipurpose mixer cooker using DC motor is already exist in the faculty.
Therefore, the student should be able to compare the developed system that control by
this two types of motor.
The project is to develop an automatic portable chicken plucker control by using DC motor.
The speed of motor can be control depend of the load. This project will encourage the
household to slatter the chicken his/her own and pluck the chicken features using this
machine easily. Therefore, the halal of this chicken is guaranted. The idea of this project is
to support the halal food industry and it can be used for commercial purposes.
A vehicle cooling (air-cond) system usually uses compressor to cool pasanger cabin. The
system which is driven by engine is another load aside from the weight of the vehicle. By
turning the air-cond off, the load can be reduced, hence, improve the efficiency of power
delivery from the engine in order to drive the alone. The use of TEC to replace the
conventional air-cond system may reduce the weight of the vehicle because it is small in
size as compares to the compressor weight.
Solar heat is a waste if it is not properly used. When the heat is concentrated at a certain
fixed point, its density is very high thus can be manipulated in order to produce electricity.
By using a solar concentrator, the heat is directed to a thermoelectric device to generate
electricity.
MPPT is a device that ensure power obtain from an energy collector is produced at an
optimum. Currently commercially available MPPT is solely made for PV system.
Thermoelectric system is slightly different from PV system in term of internal resistance,
which varies widely when temperature changes. Therefore, there is a need to develop
MPPT for TEG system.
Higher caution is needed when dealing high voltage power supply. Creeping discharge
happens occasionally if proper insulation is not given to each connection which may lead to
accident. Previous project does not consider power electronic device as the component.
Unneeded discharge occurs everywhere. This project may resolve this issue with proper
insulation.
Nowadays, the use of powerbank seems like a must due to heavy usage of smartphones
or tablets. Capacity of a power bank can be traced once the whole charges are drawn out
of it in certain period. Drawing the whole current from powerbank in a very short period is
the criteria of this tester.
In a high temperature system, coolant or liquid in circulated using motor-based pump.
However, by applying dielectrics characteristic, it is possible those liquid without a pump.
By applying DC voltage is a certain direction, coulombs force is generated between the
electrodes. This system may reduce weight of the whole system.
Plant is composed of tissues that could deliver ionic element (chemical compound). By
understanding the characteristic of a plant, it is possible to use plant as an antenna as
certain plant has a unique shape. Plant as an antenna may reduce the use of conventional
communication tower. It is greener and helps earth in balancing oxygen.

In this project, it will involve both the hardware and the software in order
to complete this successful project. As for the hardware, the concept of
white cane for the blinds is not implemented and I decided to replace the
use of the white cane with the hand-mounted glove concept. Then, using
the ultrasonic sensor as attached at the glove may be able to transmit the
ultrasonic wave to detect any object in the front and then when there is
an obstacle or objects that has blocked the signal, the ultrasonic wave
will then repelled back to the receiver and communicate to the
microcontroller to inform the user that there is an object in front. The
distance of the objects to be measure are of the range of 2cm to 3m.
Besides that, when the object is detected to be in front of the user, two
vibrating sensor will be allocated at the left and right of the glove by
telling the user that the obstacle or the object location is either at the left
or at the right hand side of the user. As the object detects to be nearer to
Gardening is one of the beneficial hobbies in today modern world. It helps in
keeping our ecosystem healthy. How do we embrace our hobbies when we are
busy with work or unable to take care of the garden? Imagine your garden have
a system to automatically take care of the plant. This system will be able to
monitor the condition of the plant and alter the condition to its optimum. The user
will also be able to monitor the plant condition through their smart phone.
Intelligent garden is gardening with a modern technology to monitor the condition
of the plant by measuring the parameter such as temperature, soil moisture, and
light intensity. Using this parameter, the flower pots response to alter the
condition to it optimum level. Gardening system use microcontroller to receive
information, process the information and produce output. The microcontroller
used is a low power, cost efficient and easily available. Gardening system will
collect the data such as temperature, fertilizer, soil moisture and light intensity
using sensors and send the data to microcontroller. The microcontroller will be
program to response by producing output such as water flow, sprayer, data
display, alarm and smart phone alert. Gardening system allow user to control the
watering system both automatic and manually. User will be able to access the
plant data through smart phone thus choose to leave the plant to automatic
watering system or to periodically check the plant data and manually watering the
plant. When automatic system is activated, gardening system will read the plant
parameter (soil moisture, temperature and fertilizer) from the sensors and
produce output to manipulate the parameter to the level that have been set by the
user. This smart phone application allows user to access their gardening system
anywhere and anytime so that the user can always take care of their plant.

terms of better services, effective plannings and efficient management.
Varieties of sensors and techniques are applied to perform diverse measures in
agricultural areas. Use of spectral reflectance techniques for aiding decisions
relating to plantation establishment, weed control, plant protection and nutrition
will be used. Spectral reflectance technique is capable of detecting weeds against
a soil background and is capable of providing useful information about the plant
canopy that can be used as a component in determining the fungicide, growth
regulator and nitrogen inputs to a plantation. Different sensing methodologies to
provide accurate information on plant, soil, climate, and environmental conditions
can be used for modern agricultural management. GPS built-in inside the Farmer
Digital Assistant (FDA) system will be developed which will act as supporting
hand to farmers for most of the agricultural process.
Current scenario in our local book stores requires a lot of human intervention in
keeping the whole book inventory system to function and run smoothly.
Sometimes this situation creates a lot of problems either to the store
management or the customers. By introducing RFID system into the inventory
management, we hope it will help to create an automation system for the book-
store management in terms of book inventories, purchase monitoring system,
new book collections, new book orderings etc. RFID wireless system will help to
promote a better standard of book-store management and process, with faster
time response and greater handling of books, reading materials etc.
Health safety and environment monitoring have become global pandemic issues
involving every country in the world looking into finding the solutions to overcome
these problems. One way to approach this matter is to use RF & Wireless
technology as the backbone of this solution. With RF wireless technology in
hand, we will try to design and develop systems that can help our government
and local agencies to monitor our health safety and the environment, as well as
helping them to monitor the current situation closely and take necessary action
fast.
The main objective of this project is to develop a RF Wireless system that can be
used to help doctors and hospitals to monitor and keep track of their patients
conditions inside the hospitals quarantine area, especially for pandemic diseases
like swine flu (H1N1), Ebola etc. By doing this, there will be less direct interaction
between patients and the medical staffs which will reduce the possibility these
diseases transferred to them accidentally. The new system will integrate the
existing wireless communication system (WIFI, LAN etc.) with RF & Wireless
Communication in order to produce a highly integrated wireless and mobile
monitoring system. This system can also be used by their personal doctors or
family members through smartphone applications which can keep track of their
movement, as well as their health status, without having to be so close or near to
them.

Nowadays peoples use 4G mobile USB modem to connect to the Internet and
these numbers of users frow from time to time. In Malaysia there are several
Inrenet service provider (ISP) that provide mobile USB modem such as DiGi,
maxis, and Celecom. Many people in Malaysia are using USB modems.
However, does the network throughput which advertisements suggest have any
relationship to the real throughput which a user might experience? Customers
pay a fixed fee for the services each month, but are the services actually worth
that price? To answer these questions, an analysis of USB attached 3G network
performance needs to be
conducted.

The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is one of the most successful
techniques that have been used in image recognition and compression. PCA is a
statistical method under the broad title of factor analysis. The purpose of PCA is
to reduce the large dimensionality of the data space (observed variables) to the
smaller intrinsic dimensionality of feature space (independent variables), which
are needed to describe the data economically. This is the case when there is a
strong correlation between observed variables.
The jobs which PCA can do are prediction, redundancy removal, feature
extraction, data compression, etc. Because PCA is a classical technique which
can do something in the linear domain, applications having linear models are
suitable, such as signal processing, image processing, system and control
theory, communications, etc
Using shape-initialized deformable template, a new method for object tracking is
presented. This method consists of two steps: 1) searching step, by background
predicting, moving object is segmented, then detecting the edge, thinning edge,
and select landmark points to construct a shape model which contains all the
feature points of the shape; 2) tracking step, using prior shape model which is
extracted from the previous frames to implement the coarse location of object by
shape matching, then adjusting shape model to obtain the inter-frame change of
the object by adopting active contour model, to achieve accurate location and
generate a updating shape model for object detection in next frame. The results
of experiments demonstrate that the mentioned algorithm has strong adaptability
to deformation, pose change, lighting change, and occlusion.
According to the result of moving object detection research on video sequences,
this paper proposes a new method to detect moving object based on background
subtraction. First of all, we establish a reliable background updating model based
on statistical and use a dynamic optimization threshold method to obtain a more
complete moving object. And then, morphological filtering is introduced to
eliminate the noise and solve the background disturbance problem. At last,
contour projection analysis is combined with the shape analysis to remove the
effect of shadow, the moving human body are accurately and reliably detected.
The experiment results show that the proposed method runs quickly, accurately
and fits for the real-time detection.

device. Student also needs to design a system that can easily be modified if there
is in need of adding or removing pipeline to be monitored by the system.
Public transportation in Malaysia always has problems with punctuality. This will
cause difficulties to the public transportations user. To reduce the problems,
each bus stop need to be equipped with a display panel showing the estimated
time of arrival of the bus. This display panel will received the current GPS
coordinates of the bus and compute the estimated arrival time of the bus to the
respective bus stop. This will guide the user and help the user to plan their
journey carefully.
One problem that every public transportation user in Malaysia has to face is the
difficulties to plan their journey. User does not know when the best time to wait
for the bus is. User also cannot know whether the bus they are waiting for is not
yet to arrive or they already have missing the bus and need to wait another
30minutes. Since most of the user now has a smart phone in their possession, a
system that can assist them might help them a lot in planning their journey. An
Android based Apps is proposed to be developed in this project. The Apps will let
the user know the current location of the bus by requesting the GPS coordinate of
the bus and also computing the estimated arrival time of the bus to the respective
bus stop. This will guide the user and help the user to plan their journey carefully.

Smart home is a technology where people can control their home from anywhere
they want. In this project, the objectives is to design a home automation system
where user can control the home appliances wirelessly, probably by using GSM
or zigbee module. Another aim is that the system can determine the method to
minimize the usage of home appliances. For example, if a house owner forget to
switch off the fan, the system will detect the absence of people in that house and
automatically direct the system to switch off the fan. Notification (sms) will be
transmitted after.
On this project, wireless current detection system should be designed so that
user can compare the current supplied from TNB to home distribution board is
sufficient. If not, the detection system will detect the abnormal value and
notification will be sent to home owner. This information is important because it
can early detect the problem if power trip happen at home, either the problem is
from TNB or the electrical system in the house.
Remembering to take multiple medications everyday is easier said than done,
especially for the elderly or those who have long-term illnesses. When scheduled
medication doses are due to be taken, the electronics Pillbox can record
medication adherence behavior remotely so that this data can be compiled and
analyzed by the pharmacist at the end of the month. The design will include the
application of microprocessor. The microprocessor will log the data when the box
is open. This project is actually a standalone data logger, for at the end of the
data collection period the device is connected to a PC and the collected data is
read and analysed offline by the PC.
A wireless safety system for gas leakage detection is proposed. The system is
intended for use in household safety where appliances and heaters that use
natural gas and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) may be a source of risk. The system
also can be used for other applications in the industry or plants that depend on
LPG and natural gas in their operations. The system design consists of two main
modules: the detection and transmission module, and the receiving module. The
detection and transmitting module detects the change of gas concentration using
a special sensing circuit built for this purpose. This module checks if a change in
concentration of gas(es) has exceeded a certain pre-determined threshold. If the
sensor detects a change in gas concentration, it activates an alarm and sends a
signal to the receiver module. The system was tested using LPG and the alarm
was activated as a result of change in concentration. Sensor that will be used is
MQ6 gas sensor.

Conventional way to detect gas leakage in process plant is using sensor. Sensor
type such as colour sensor, infrared sensor and gas sensor are limited to only
sense gas substance emit to the air. It cannot located the source of leak whereby
contribute to the late of leakage detection. Since the safety in process plant is
very critical, any issues that causes to the gas leakage should be address
properly. In this project, we propose a baseline study to determine the thermal
imaging characteristic of gas leakage and do the quantification by correlating with
amount of gas leak. The student need to have basic knowledge on Matlab
Programming and willing to work independently.

The Gram stain is the most important and universally used staining technique in
the bacteriology laboratory. There are few steps involved in gram staining which
are; (1) transfer a loopful of the liquid culture to the surface of a clean glass slide,
and spread over a small area. (2) To stain material from a culture growing on
solid media, place a loopful of tap water on a slide; using a sterile cool loop
transfer a small sample of the colony to the drop, and emulsify. (3) Allow the film
to air dry. Fix the dried film by passing it briefly through the Bunsen flame two or
three times without exposing the dried film directly to the flame.
Currently, this procedure is manually done in microbiology lab. However, due to
human inconsistency, some of the slides are heavily stain with dark color
whereas some of it is lightly stained. This inconsistency would create a problem
for automated sputum quality system. Hence, an automated gram staining for
sputum slide is needed in order to standardize the slide staining. The
standardization will be measured in terms of color intensity.
The objective of this project is to enhance the automated system of sputum
quality. In order to determine the number of cells accurately, the image captured
need to be clear. However, after certain time, the image captured will become
blurry due to the movement of microscope stage. Therefore, researchers need to
adjust the focus knob from time to time. With the success of this project,
hopefully can overcome the problem occurred.

This study involves a threshold-based algorithm and
particle swarm optimization for peak detection of EEG
signal. The EEG signal is analysed in time domain. The
threshold-based algorithm considers mean-based baseline
and local extreme for defining the peak features. The
algorithm is divided into four stages, which are (1) pre-
processing, (2) pre-classification, (3) feature extraction,
and (4) classification. The peak is classified based on
threshold values, which are chosen using particle swarm
optimization.

Auto intensity,
White Light Emitting Diodes (LED) is used in experimental
project for barnacles life cycles to include dimming feature.
A microcontroller is used to control the intensity by
developing pulse width modulated signals that drives a
MOSFET to switch the LEDs according to achieve desired
operation.
Barnacles are assumed to be sensitive to the light intensity
and it is important to control closely to their natural
environment. This system is built to replicate the natural
light intensity during daytime as well as night-time. This
system demonstrates the usage of the LEDs (light emitting
diodes) as the light source and its variable intensity control,
according to the requirement.
LEDs consume less power and its life time is more, as
compared to the conventional HID lamps. The more
important and interesting feature is its intensity can be
controlled according to the requirement during peak hours
(daytime) and non-peak hours (at night-time).
Thermistor, Control
The project is designed to develop a temperature control
system using a thermistor. It is helpful to maintain a
constant temperature of an enclosed area (barnacles
water tank).
Whenever temperature increases beyond a certain value,
a lamp (indicating a cooler) is switched on to bring the
temperature to normal value. As switching ON of load is
done automatically so this system doesnt require anyone
to monitor the temperature in person.
Water Level Detector
The project is designed to give a display of water level in a
barnacles tank. The reading given is in the sale of 0 to 9. A
priority encoder is interfaced to a decoder to get the display
of water level on 7 segment display. Besides level detector,
it is also comprise of interfacing circuit which alert the user
when the water level is falls below the minimum level.
pH meter
The project is designed to develop an automatic pH
monitoring system for barnacles water tank. pH
measurement and control is very important to ensure the
replication of barnacles life cycle close to natural
environment. The advantage of using this method is to
reduce human intervention and maintain pH value of the
water. The project uses microcontroller which is
programmed to receive the input signal of varying pH
condition of the water through the sensing arrangement.
Optcal Density
The project is designed to measure the concentration of
barnacles in the water tank by using index of reflection or
optical density. The absorbance of a material is a
logarithmic ratio of the radiation falling upon a material, to
the radiation transmitted through a material.
