Igneous: Igneous rocks form from lava.

They form when lava cools on earth's

surface, or magma cools below earth's surface, and there is a difference between
the two. Lava is on earth's surface and has small crystals as a result of faster
cooling. Faster cooling=small crystals, such as obsidian. Magma is under Earth's
surface, and because under the surface its nearly always hot, the magma cool
slowly which results in big crystals. Slow cooling=big crystals, such as granite
(though these all make up the crust). Or in other words, which would be more
plentiful. If you pour a bucket of water on a plant at one time, or spread that water
amount over the days. Pretty much same logic. And going back to Igneous rocks,
they are separated by if they are formed inside the earth, Intrusive, or on earths
surface, Extrusive. And Igneous rock makes up most of earths crust. The
Continental Crust is Granite, which is high in silica which makes it light. And the
Oceanic Crust is Basalt, a dark colored rock which is low in silica. The Basalt at the
bottom of the ocean is called Pillow Basalt because the way it comes out of the
volcanoes at the bottom of the ocean makes it look like a pillow. This is also a cause
of sea-floor spreading which is more and more layers of basalt being pushed out of
the volcanoes and pushing the old rock towards the continents which results in
subduction because continental crust is more dense than oceanic crust.

Metamorphic: Metamorphic Rock is rock that is changed. It comes from other rocks.
It is changed by heat and pressure, which is under the earths surface. Metamorphic
rocks are grouped by the texture of their grains. It is either banded in a pattern, or
just spread out like a clothes in a closet (of someone that is not organized) If it is in
a pattern it is called foliated, if not it is called Nonfoliated. Pretty simple. In a
pattern or not in a pattern. Metamorphic rock has its own role in our world. Marble is
a Metamorphic Rock, which is used in a lot of statues, like the Lincoln Memorial. So
without Metamorphic rocks, we are pretty "nonfiled" HAHA nvm.

Sedimentary: Sedimentary are rocks that are formed from weathering, erosion,
deposition, compaction, and cementation. AKA Made of sediments that pile up on
top of each other. Sedimentary rock are separated into 3 categories. Clastic,
Organic, or Chemcial. Clastic Rocks are rocks that formed by sediments. The true
sedimentary rock. Made of sediments from other rocks, pebbles, stones, or anything
broken off from another rock. A Conglomerate is a Clastic Rock. Organic Rocks are
rocks that form from the sediments of dead orgainsms. They are formed from the
remains of once living thing such as fishes, worms, or other things as well.
Limestone is an Organic Rock. The next are the Chemical Rock. They are rocks that
form from solutions, that are made from chemicals. That pretty much it.
• There are three main types of rock, igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.
Igneous rocks are the type formed from the cooling of molten rock as either magma or
lava. Sedimentary are formed from the compression of sediment over periods of time.
Finally, metamorphic rocks are formed by the application of heat and pressure over long
periods of time.
