TECHNOLOGYCASESTUDIES
The production of the Technology Case Studies is an integral part of your assessment in Technologies 2,
contributing10creditsofthe20creditstotalfortheunit.Thisequatesto100hoursworkeffort.

Outline
Thecasestudiesaredividedintotwomainparts;
Analysis:Deconstruction
Synthesis:Reassembly
butalsoinvolvesomepriorpreparation.

So;
Preparation information:Firstly, in 2 groups per studiogroup A and B and each will gather information on
yourassignedcasestudy

Deconstruction Analysis pack: Secondly, each deconstruction group will independently produce an analysis,
whichtakesthefinishedbuildingandbreaksitdownintoitscomponentparts(deconstruction)anddescribes
howandwhythosecomponentsarecomposedtogether.

Reassembly models and report: Thirdly, in smaller groups you will take the deconstruction analysis pack
prepared by another group, and reassemble it using physical models, computer models and diagrams (re
assembly).

ForthesecondpartReassemblyDeconstructionpackGroupsAandBwillbesubdividedintoGroupA1and
A2 and group B1 and B2 each of 3/4 students. These groups will each Reassemble a different casestudy
duringTechnologyweek(fromaDeconstructionAnalysispackthattheyhadnopartinpreparing)andprepare
a'Reassembly'reportforthefinalhandin.

Thepurposeoftheexerciseisto:
Develop the ability to examine andunderstand architectural construction strategieswith respect to,
material,environmentalandstructureusingconstructioninformationandbuiltprecedents
Develop the ability to examine and understand architectural tactics with respect to the composition
of construction elements, environment and structural tactics using appropriate analysis of
constructioninformation
Learntoworkproductivelyingroups

During technology week, each group 1A1 12B2 will demonstrate the ability to examine and understand the
composition of construction elements in architectural construction, with respect to environmental and
structural tactics and strategies. They will demonstrate asynthesis of an analysis of construction information
by reassembling the key information of the casestudy using the deconstruction analysis pack they have

The 6 casestudy packs (each of which has two versions for comparison) will be distributed to the 48 re
assembly groups so that each studio group has four different casestudy deconstruction information packs,
none of which they were involved in preparing. This means there will be 48 groups reassembling 6 different
casestudies=8versionsofeachcasestudy.

The models and diagrams should be made and drawn during technology week and maximum 8 key images
