ABSTRACT
BACK GROUND
Panchakarma is getting popularized world wide due to its efficacy. For its acceptance in the
scientific world evidence based explanation is essential. So it is the need of the hour to develop
the objective parameter for the assessment of different Samyak Shuddi Lakshana of
Panchakarma procedures. Hence here a humble attempt is made to develop an objective
parameter for the assessment of the Antiki Shuddi of Vamana Karma.
Antiki Shuddi Lakshana is mainly assessed on the basis of subjective symptoms observed by the
patient during the Vamana Vega and on the observation made on the Vomitus. Since the Pitta
and Bile seems to have similar qualities hence it is appropriate to consider the presence of Bile or
Bile Salts in the Vomitus. Here in this study both the Bile Pigment test (Nitric Acid test) and Bile
Salt test (Sulphur Test) were performed. Only Bile Salt test found to be positive.
RESEARCH DESIGN
RESULT
Study proved that among the three subjective parameters Tiktasyata was found in the 60% of
patients while the Kantha Daha was observed in 50%. Akshi Daha was not observed in any
samples.
Among the Objective parameters Sulphur Test found to be positive in 80% of the patients and
yellowish discoloration was found only in 50% of patients. In few patients Yellowish
discoloration was not observed but the Sulphur test found to be positive.
CONCLUSION
• Sulphur Dusting test found to be efficient to assess the Pitta in the vomitus and can be
advocated for the assessment of Pittanta Lakshana of Vamana
• The test is very easy to perform and cost effective.
