information to assist the Jacksonville Police Department in
their investigation into a recent theft and a recent vehicle
arson.

On Friday, November 20, at approximately 1:00AM, a resident of Nob Hill placed several packages near their
mailbox to be picked up by a postal employee. At approximately 6:00AM, the complainant noticed that the
packages had been removed. The packages contained assorted light bulbs and electrical outlets.

On Monday, November 23, at approximately 11:30PM, the Jacksonville Fire Department responded to a
report of a vehicle on fire in the 700 block of Bedwell. Firefighters extinguished a small fire in the passen-
ger side front seat of the vehicle. The owner reported that the vehicle had been parked at 11:15PM, and
that no combustible or flammable materials or smoking supplies were present in the vehicle at that time.
The vehicle was left unlocked when it was parked.

The police are asking that anyone who has information concerning these crimes, or any other crimes with-
in the two county area, submit a tip online by going to www.tipsubmit.com or calling Crime Stoppers at 243-
7300. Tips may also be submitted by texting 274637 (CRIMES). The first word of the text tip must be “pay-
out”. More information can be found at www.morganscottcrimestoppers.webs.com.

A cash reward of up to $1000 will be paid for information leading to an arrest.

Affordable Season that’s Sure to Please
by Mindy Farmer

The Jacksonville Theatre Guild debuted its ambitious 2009-2010 Season with
the dark comedy, The Little Shop of Horrors. This Halloween season treat kicked off
what promises to be a year filled with music, suspense, lighthearted fun, and a bit of
mystery. The season offers a few tributes to beloved cinema with A Christmas Story and
Wait Until Dark, as well as an introduction to a new story with the concert-experience
musical Alter Boyz.
Youth-oriented productions will include the follow up to the hugely popular
High School Musical and an adaptation of Hansel and Gretal.

production, “Little Shop of Horrors.” Photos courtesy of Krisitn Jamison.

The cast of last summer’s “Into the Woods,” a musical by Stephen Sondheim.

Each fall, the Guild begins a new season with four feature shows and two youth
productions. The goal of the Guild is to provide theatrical experiences for everyone in
the community. To meet this goal, scheduled productions include a balance of musical
and straight shows, as well as large and more intimate productions. These diverse shows
also offer local actors and musicians of various ages opportunities to become involved
with the theatre to share and further develop their talents.
Theatre Guild President Kristin Jamison has been involved with the organiza-
tion since she first auditioned for the Ken Bradbury production of Shenandoah in 1987.
She has participated over the years as an actor, director, and board member. Kristin says
that serving as the President of the Guild has helped her gain an appreciation for all of
the pieces that go into creating a successful season. Each production involves a wide

Changing "Seasons" of Life May Require

Changes in Investment Strategy
Submitted by Brent Bordentkircher

As we make the transition from autumn to winter, you may be reminded that seasons don’t
just change on the calendar — they also change in your life. And as you move from one
season of your life to another, you’ll find that some of your goals may have changed.
Consequently, as time goes by, you may need to adjust your financial strategies as well.

To illustrate the “seasonal” nature of your investment strategies, let’s quickly go through a
typical life cycle and look at the differing financial goals at each stage:

Starting out — When you are beginning your career, you may not have a lot of money with
which to invest, but it's important to try to put away something each month. If you have a
401(k) where you work, take advantage of it — your money is deducted, pretax, from your
paychecks, so it’s an easy way to start investing. And at this stage of your life, consider
investing primarily for growth. Of course, when you invest in growth-oriented vehicles,
you typically assume an above-average degree of risk because the price of these invest-
ments can fluctuate greatly over time. However, if you buy quality investments and hold
them for many years, you may be able to overcome the “blips” along the way and benefit
from the growth prospects these vehicles can offer.
Middle years — During this season of your life, things have likely changed. Your kids may
have already graduated from college or otherwise left home, so you may need to re-evalu-
ate your life insurance needs. You’re likely earning more money and have more available
to invest — which means, among other things, that you should consider “maxing out” on
your IRA and also putting as much as you afford into your 401(k) or other employer-spon-
sored retirement plan. Because you may have a decade or more until you retire, you still
may need considerable growth potential from your investments. At the same time, though,
you might not want to invest quite as aggressively as you did when you started out, so you
may want to increase the percentage of bonds and other fixed-income vehicles in your port-
folio.
Retirement years — Many people assume their expenses will drop when they retire. And
some will drop — but others, such as health care, will increase. Furthermore, it’s not at all
unusual for people to spend two, or even three, decades in an active retirement — and dur-
ing those years, inflation can be a factor. Consequently, even as a retiree, you'll find that
growth-oriented investments are important, balanced with others that provide income.
Furthermore, you’ll want to manage the withdrawals you take from your IRA, 401(k) or
other employer-sponsored retirement plan to help make sure you don’t outlive your
resources. At the same time, you should consider exploring estate-planning techniques,
such as life insurance trusts, that can help you leave the legacy you want without burden-
ing your heirs with heavy estate taxes. To help you meet these needs, work with your tax
advisor and estate-planning professional.
The seasons of the year change every three months. The seasons of your life change much
more slowly, but these changes can have a big impact on your financial situation.

being taken in the area, one such story is topping
most. Cory “Podge” Clendenen of Jerseyville has
taken the honor of the biggest buck so far. Clendenen
was hunting near-by Greene County when he took the
giant. Clendenen stated he was hunting on Saturday
the 21st when he saw the buck. Clendenen had seen
only four other deer when the buck walked towards
him. Clendenen was in his tree stand when the buck
approached. The buck walked within 100 yards of his
stand and bedded down. Clendenen explained that he
had never seen the buck before but it had been seen
once or twice on the property. Clendenen described
how he climbed out of his stand and began walking
towards the deer.
The buck saw Clendenen coming and imme-
diately got up and began to run away. Clendenen stat-
ed he decided to take the shot. He estimated the shot
to be approximately 60 yards. Clendenen hit the buck
and it was found around 200 yards away. The buck
weighed 198 lbs. field dressed and had 24 scorable

I had a very good time watching Old Dogs. This movie has
been a long time coming. It was evident, to me, that the problems
this production suffered did have effects on the final production and
certainly on audience sentiment. The tribulations surrounding the
making and release of the work included the deaths of Bernie Mac
and John Travolta‘s son. However, the final product was still very
uplifting and entertaining. Old Dogs is funny and even endearing at
times. Travolta and Williams probably won’t become a great come-
dy duo, but they do have some chemistry that works. I thought
Travolta, in particular, pulled off his roll with success because in Old
Dogs he has to out clown Robin Williams most of the time and that
is a pretty big challenge.
Old Dogs is eighty eight minutes of family movie that I think
adults may enjoy a little more than their kids……… and that’s okay.
I’ve seen a lot of critics pan this film and I can see their reasons.
However, if you’re just looking for some amusing friendly fun, then
you're probably going to have a more than a few laughs watching
Old Dogs.

My keyboard is getting dirty. Should i clean it?
It is better to do the keyboard when the computer is shut down. Don’t
spray a cleaner directly on the keys. That may cause them to stick. Put warm
water or cleaner on a rag and use that to wipe the keyboard. Turning the key-
board upside down and shaking it will often produce some surprises. Using a
can of compressed air is also a good way to dislodge debris.
If a major accident occurs such as spilling soda or coffee into the
keys, you may try a more radical solution. Place the keyboard in the dishwash-
er. (Unplug it first.) Warm water. No soap. No drying cycle. When done, turn it

From the North Pole

by Sherry Hopkin

Urgent. . . this message just in from the North Pole. Santa

needs your help with gift giving this year. So after several confer-
ence calls between Santa, myself and few of my favorite elves we’ve come up with
a few gift giving ideas to help you out while helping out poor, overworked, over bud-
geted and under staffed Santa. In addition to helping Santa, I am giving you a list of
some gift ideas.

1. One of my personal favorite gifts that I received was a bag of one of my best
friends "favorite things." You can go several ways with this gift idea, but basically
the concept of giving a variety of your favorite things, being very specific (such as
your favorite candies, movies, etc.). In the gift bag I received there was mascara, lip
gloss, body wash, a book, a monthly magazine, pack of gum, chocolates, and a scent-
ed candle. For me, this was a great opportunity to try some new things while also
learning several new things about one of my dear friends.

2. I have two children in their twenties that are beginning to realize fast food cannot
be consumed at every meal. I have been getting several phone calls asking how to
make their favorite recipes. This year under the Christmas tree with be several bas-
kets filled with the non-perishable ingredients of each recipe, the recipe itself, the
pot, pan or cookie sheet that needs to be used and a gift card from the market for the
amount of the perishable foods that need to be used in the recipe.

3. In some of the dollar stores or the dollar isles you can find peppermint shot glass-
es. They are adorable and can be used in several gift ideas such as getting the little
mini bottles of spirits in different flavors putting those with the peppermint shot
glasses, add a dice game, my favorite being LCR, and you have created an inexpen-
sive possibly favorite gift for someone.

4. Some of my favorite and most useful purchase gifts this season include: the Shark,

Dunlap Court Beverages

a steam mop that works really well and cuts mopping time in half. The Keurig Single
Serve coffee maker is wonderful. You can have fresh brewed coffee anytime of the
day and the coffee comes in dozens of different flavors. The best gift of all for any
age, in my opinion, continues to be the Wii Gaming Station. This can make those
long winter nights go by much faster and keep you in shape at the same time!
Holiday Sales Event
5. Be creative when wrapping your gifts. I use old ornaments instead of bows. On
Pre-tax Pricing & Better these ornaments use glitter glue and write the name of the recipient. If one person has
several gifts I like to wrap them each in the same paper, stack them upon each one,
then tie them with sheer fabric or a huge ribbon.
