Ke$ha

Define Audience:

As this video represents a pop genreI think the target audience of this music video
aims at teenagers. The video contains the youth enjoy partying, clubbing and
dancing. Which is typically what the teenage years, and some young adults are
portrayed to do.

Genre of music and video e.g. narrative, performance, etc. Does it fit music genre
characteristics?

The genre of our music video is pop. The typical characteristics of Pop are:

fashionable, stylish and
mainstream outfits.

enjoying and content with life.
The lyrics of POP artists are
normally based around love or

Pop Music Videos

The songs usually include beats that are dance orientated
They stereotypically are associated with teens. For example the youth enjoy
partying, clubbing and dancing which is the main purpose of pop.
There is a lot of imagery related to sex and partying.

Artists are presented in a very sexual and seductive way, trying to lure
the audience in with good looks or seductive body language. Current
artists dress in a provacitive ways portaying a sexual atmosphere.

Make-up is used to portray the emotion/mood of the artists storyline, helping
to express a message.
Goodwins Theory

The artists voice:
Pitbull has a unique voice, a trademark of which where he highlights his record
company Mr Worldwide & Mr 305. Only he promotes this and anyone who has
listened to his music, could recognise this at the beginning of each of his songs or
songs he features in.

Amplifying Lyrics:
When listening to this song I feel the only amplified lyrics in this song is Its Going
Down Which is regularly repeated throughout the song. To me this could mean at
parties, people are forced/ peer pressured to step out of their comfort zone and try
new things, e.g. Drink heavily, dancing, mixing with new people and even do drugs,
which all could relate to the amplified lyrics.

Voyeurism:
I feel as though this music video definitely includes Voyeurism, the music video itself
performs sexual dancing, little clothing and sexual references (in this case, boob
grabbing from the female artist*). The music video promotes partying, dancing, love-
making and drinking.

*This can also relate to the Barthes Code and as there trying to keep a lid of what
parties are actually like compared what the artists are trying to promote. The quick
boob grab quickly comes into shot and then quickly out of shot as though the music
video are leaving clues to what modern parties are commonly like, as well as any
other sexual references in this music video, such as sexual poses are editing in a
slow-motion to create that Males gaze.

Barthes Code

I think the Hermeneutic Code could represent this music video as the music
strongly promotes partying and that its a good social event. However it doesnt
reveal what parties are really like to teens such as heavy drinking, dancing, love-
making and even drug use. Yet this video doesnt really emphasis any of these, its
as though the artists are trying to promote a controlled party and not to let go out of
hand which I feel as though the video is lying to the modern parties that teens
attend.
