had the chance to relax
and refresh ready for term
4. We welcome back Mrs
Lorraine Bexley after a
terms long service leave.
Most kids look forward to
extended holidays free of
homework, assignments,
sports practice, and music
lessons. So how do we get
our kids back on track? A
new term is coming into
full swing and somehow
we need to motivate
young minds to get back
into the learning groove
called the real world.
Maybe you've already
done some groundwork
by stocking up on reading
material over the
holidays, or spent time in
museums or libraries. Or
maybe your kids have
been heavily into Apps
that tease their brain or
raise skill levels to rival
an android.
Whatever they've been
doing, it's now time to
make the switch from
holiday mode to school

missing while on

Encourage
excitement about their

and upcoming school
events.
Inject some
inspiration by talking
about achievement,
celebrating success,
and what it's going to
feel like to learn new
things.
Enjoy a week of
special school
breakfasts.
Get grandparents (or
other extended family)
to send an SMS, email,
card or note wishing
your child a great term
at school.
So the Holidays are Over..
can be frustrating, so here
are a few tips to help get
our last term for 2014 off
to a flying start.
Sleep is good and
essential to
concentration, so set
definite times for
waking and going to
bed.
Put a lid on 'anytime'
snacking and stick
with a regular eating
routine.
Liven up the lunch
box with nutritious
favourites.
Prepare homework
spaces and discuss
study strategies.
Make the most of
how much time they'll
be spending with their
school friends.

coloured rubber which gives four
new workable play spaces. There are
plans to brighten up the space with a
splash of colour with input from the

School Improvement

We have purchased some new yard
rubbish bins and are having a focus
on decreasing the rubbish that
appears in the yard. Students are
currently designing logos for the
bins. A big thank to Jack, Luke and
Connor for their extra effort in
keeping the school clean.
Rubbish

Unfortunately we had a bout of
graffiti during the term break. The
tags have been forwarded on to the
police who keep a record to assist
with apprehending the offenders. If
you have any information, please let
the school know.

If you have popped into school you
may have noticed that the art and
music rooms were undergoing a
refurbishment over the holidays.

It is around this time of the year that
as parents you will be beginning to
consider your childrens learning
needs to support a successful
transition to their next grade.
Organising approximately 274
students and a staff of over 20
teachers in a way that recognises
everyones needs, is no easy task.
Placement of students and teachers
is never a random process and there
are many issues to consider i.e.
integration aides and their students,
friendship groups, learning needs,
class sizes just to mention a few.
At Launch we pride ourselves in our
knowledge of our students and their
individual needs. We are however
always happy to consider requests
from parents to support this process.
It is important to note that we do not
accept requests for teachers.
Preparing for 2015
I ask that you trust the teachers
judgement and professionalism in
making a decision that is in each
childs best interest. When compiling
classes for 2015 every attempt will be
made to cater for the specific needs
of all students. Your child will have
the opportunity to meet their teacher
and their classmates towards the end
of the year. All students will also
have the chance to be involved in

transition sessions during term 4.
This gives them the chance to spend
some time getting familiar with their
new learning environment while
spending time with other students
not presently in their grade.

Childrens Week is a national
program recognising the talents,
skills, achievements and rights of
young people. It is based on the
articles expressed in the United
Nations Convention on the Right of
the Child, highlighting play,
wellbeing and protection.
Victoria celebrates Childrens Week
with hundreds of free events taking
place right across the state. These
events recognize the unique and
important place of children in the
community.
During Childrens Week (18-26
October) local councils, schools and
early childhood services organise a
range of open days, displays and
special events that celebrate
childhood, showcase children's
achievements and the work of schools
and early childhood services.
Yarra Ranges Council are offering a
selection of activities ranging from
Childrens Week
storytelling to puppet shows and face
painting. All activities are free and
target children from 0-12 years of
age.

This year we will be participating in National Bandana Day, to raise money for
young people with cancer. We will be selling gorgeous colourful bandanas for
$4.00 in the office as of next term. More reminders will come your way, so stay
tuned for details. Were passionate about supporting young people when life
really gets tough, and this is a great way we can all help.

Thank You
