1. GENERAL
This specification covers the structure and performance of Submarine Cable as manufactured by ZTT.
Matters not mentioned in this technical specification shall be negotiated by customer and ZTT.
2. REFERENT STANDARDS
The cable which ZTT offered is designed, manufactured and tested based on below standards, where the
specification deviates from below standards, this specification shall apply.

3. CABLE DESIGN
The design of the offered cable has been a typical structure of submarine cables which is prevailing over
the world and has been approved for stable performance in submarine cable system. The design life of
the submarine optic fiber cable is for a minimum of 30 years operation.
1) Loose tube/Hydrogen ingression protector
The fibers are protected by a loose tube design, which is made from stainless steel tube . And the
tube is filled with appropriate hydrogen absorbing gel for water blocking and to protect the optic
fiber from hydrogen affection. The fibers have kept a certain excess length in order to avoid the
unexpected tension during production and handling.
2) Inner sheath
An extruded polythene sheath is applied over the stainless steel tube, acting as a multi-function layer,
to separate the armor layers, avoid the radial water ingress and act as a buffer of fiber unit, etc.
3) Armoring
The armoring consists of two layers of galvanized steel wires, which has been widely used in
submarine cable and has been proved as a good material to supply effective tensile strength,
anti-corrosion, abrasion resistance, rodent resistance performance. Interstice between armor layers is
filled with asphalt or bitumen.
4) Outer serving
Two layers of PP-yarn are stranded over the armor wires to protect the cable from mechanical
abrasion during handling, transportation and cable deploying, and the corrosion induced by
hydrogen in the seawater.
5) Cable mark
The cable will be marked to ensure clear identification by means of yellow polypropylene yarns
between the otherwise black yarns of the outer layer. Length marking is carried out in line with the
requirements of customer, and includes cable lengths marked at 500m intervals with a suitable tape.

7. PACKING
The cable is wound on the non-returnable steel tray. Both ends of cable are securely fastened to tray and
sealed with a shrinkable cap. The required marking is printed with a weather-proof material on the
outsides of tray according to customers requirement. For different length of cable, we provide different
packing methods.

8. FACTORY ACCEPTANCE TEST
Normal FAT only includes OTDR testing, structure checking on samples, and visual checking on
delivery length. Other tests can be negotiated between clients and ZTT, but it may be charged
separately.
